Play The Villain

Rhett

I am so fucking tired of this.

I stand there, the blood rushing so loudly in my ears. Cassian is staring up at me with a smug smirk etched onto his face. It’s quite obvious that he expects me to panic and then beg him to take down that stupid ass petition before it lands on my father’s desk and seals my doom.

But as I look at his smug, perfectly sculpted face, something snaps inside me—it’s all the clarity I need.

I’ve allowed myself to be a punching bag for seventy-two hours simply because of my own guilt due to what happened in the past. Truth be told, I deserve it, but still it feels unfair that my life is beinf ruined by him and he is going to keep doing it if I don’t stand up to him. Another reason I have been lax is because my wolf, Rook, is hopelessly compromised by a fated pull I am still desperately trying to deny.

But here’s one thing Cassian doesn’t know. I’m the fucking Alpha’s son. And my dad owns the fucking university.

He wants to play the villain? He doesn’t know what he’s in for.

“You think you’re so smart, don’t you?” I say in a dangerously calm voice. I don’t yell—yelling is what weak people do when they’ve lost control according to my dad. It’s ironical because he yells at me.

I take a step back from his desk and stand straighter despite the fact that my bones are screaming at me. “You’ve had your fun—in fact, too much fucking fun. But trust me when I say you’ll regret ever messing with me.”

Cassian tilts his head. His stupid, annoying smirk is still there on his face; the idiot doesn’t believe I am capable of doing that. “Is that a threat, Rhettie?”

“It’s a reality check,” I snap, grabbing my jacket off the back of the chair. “And stop calling me that for fuck’s sake.”

I need two things right now: to show this bastard exactly who the boss is, and to force his hand into scrubbing that petition from the internet.

I walk out of the room, slamming the door behind me so hard the frame rattles.

I spend the rest of the night in my car, parked in a corner of the library lot and making phone calls. Being the Alpha’s son means the university administration belongs to my family. Every digital footprint left on the Blackridge servers is all accessible if you know which throat to squeeze. Sure, it takes a while, and I have to be careful of what I do before word gets out to my father that I am threatening his staff to give up information I, as a student, am not supposed to have.

Cassian is still fast asleep when I finally return to the room around 6:00 AM. He looks so innocent like this, but I don’t let myself soften. My stupid wolf tries to whimper in the back of my mind, but I push him down as hard as I can.

I walk over to his side of the room and stand directly over his bed, and then reach down, violently ripping the comforter off his body, tossing it onto the floor.

Cassian bolts upright instantly, looking completely confused as he blinks rapidly. He rubs his face and yawns, then looks around before his gaze finally lands on me standing over him.

“What the fuck are you doing?” he asks in a groggy voice as he stares up at me. There’s an annoyed scowl on his face. “Why the hell are you standing over me? Get the fuck away from my bed.”

Instead of answering, I reach into my back pocket, pull out a stack of the server logs that I had printed, and then slap them hard across his face.

The paper smacks his cheek and scatters across his lap. Cassian flinches, his eyebrows still furrowing in confusion as he looks at the papers.

“You know academic fraud is a federal crime, right?”

Cassian blinks at the paper, then looks up at me, trying to maintain his unbothered smirk, though I catch the slight twitch in his jaw. “Well, yeah. Obviously. But I haven’t done anything. If you think a bunch of random—”

“Read it,” I command.

Cassian hesitates for a fraction of a second before picking up a few of the papers. His eyes scan the documents inside, which show the exact timestamped logs of a forced administrative bypass into the Blackridge University housing registration database. It shows the precise MAC address of his personal laptop altering the digital registry to faking a one-year residency in my specific dorm room.

“I have undeniable proof of you hacking into the school system,” I say, leaning down until my face is barely inches from his. “You forged university documents just to get in my way as my roommate. You manipulated secure data. And if you’re capable of doing that just to play a petty revenge game with me, what is to say you haven’t been doing it for other things? What’s to stop the administration from believing you’ve been helping wealthy students change their failing grades in exchange for cash?”

Cassian’s breath hatches and color begins to drain from his face. “You can’t prove that.”

“I don’t need to prove it to a court of law, Cassian. I just need to suggest it to the people who control your future,” I spit. “You see, I know how to tell stories very well. I am an expert at it, so I could just walk right down to the Dean’s office at 9:00 AM, lay this file on his desk, and spin a beautiful narrative about an underground academic cheating ring run entirely from your IP address. You were pretty daft not to conceal that, by the way. Expulsion would be the easy way out for you. You’d be looking at a criminal record before lunch.”

Cassian stares up at me, his knuckles turning entirely white as he squeezes the paper so hard. The smirk he had on his face has been wiped off, and now he looks at me coldly, and there’s an underlying hint of panic in that expression.

“So here is how this is going to go,” I whisper. “You are going to open that laptop of yours right now. You are going to permanently take down that petition, and then you are going to issue a public, written apology to the athletic department stating it was a targeted prank. If you can’t do that within the next ten minutes, you are going to find out exactly what I am capable of when someone tries to ruin my life.”

Rhett I needed to get away from Blackridge.Between feeling suffocated by my father paying me surprise visits, the rumors spreading around the hockey team, and Cassian constantly finding new ways to drive me insane in that dorm room, I just needed to breathe. So, I packed a bag and decided to take Savannah to my late mother’s cottage for the weekend. It was a small, secluded place deep in the woods, about an hour away from the campus. I hadn’t been here in about three years because every single time, I remembered that she had died and how she died, making me angry and bitter all the same. But now, I had come here to confront my worst fears. The plan we had was simple: clean up the dust and make dinner together. Savannah had been really excited about it, but I really was not. It just felt like a relief to be out of the city.“It’s really beautiful here, Rhett,” Savannah said softly, placing a box of groceries on the wooden kitchen counter. She smiled at me, looking around at the dusty

  • Rooming With The Enemy: The Alpha’s Forbidden Mate   14. Lying To Myself

Cassian Three bubbles appear on the screen as soon as I send the text, dancing for a few seconds as Jacob starts to type a response, and then they suddenly disappear. I wait for a few more minutes for a response, hoping it’s because of a bad Wi-Fi connection on his end or mine, but there is nothing. A cold sweat breaks out across the back of my neck. I tuck my phone deep into my pocket, look once at the closed bathroom door where the water is still running, and step out of the room without thinking. My legs are moving before my brain can even formulate a rational excuse for what I’m doing. I keep telling myself I’m only doing this because I want to destroy Rhett my way, but the panic I feel is telling a completely different story. I am only lying to myself about what I truly want. The hallway is freezing cold, and I am not even sure if Jacob us in my block or not. There is no reason why Rhett should be going out again this night, so it can’t be tonight he has whatever gang pl

CassianRhett walks into the room just as I am putting away my laundry I have just received from the dry cleaners. He sighs when he sees me and rolls his eyes, dropping his helmet on his bed. “So, what’s this about, huh?”“What?” I ask, blinking innocently at him. I cross my arms over my chest as I take a few steps toward him.“Jacob? Savannah?” He scoffs and shakes his head, sucking his teeth. “Yeah, you’re up to something that’s not good.”I tilt my head at him and lift my brows. “You sound paranoid. I hear therapy works for constant paranoia… that it might be PTSD from something traumatic. Or maybe you’re scared of karma. Did you do something bad, Rhettie?”He lets out a laugh of disbelief, and this time, he is the one that takes a step forward, until there’s almost no space between us. “Wow, Cassian. Who knew you had so much evil in you… you mentioned therapy to Savannah, didn’t you?”“She agrees you need it,” I smile graciously. “We got to talking, and she admits there’s somethin

RhettCassian is up to something, and I need to know what.First, he had been playing nice with Savannah by the bleachers, and as soon as practice was over, she had come to tell me that my roommate was nice and cared about me. Now, I am walking into the locker room to see Jacob sitting and talking with Cassian fucking Storm. I just can’t prove it yet, but I am sure as fuck my gut feeling isn’t wrong.“What the hell is this about, Storm?” I ask in a cold tone, walking up to him until I’m completely in his space.“I don’t know, Reed. What do you want it to be about?”“Stay the fuck away from this arena or space, Cassian,” I warn him.The door opens behind me, the rest of my teammates pouring in. I take a step back, give a tight smile, and then walk off.Savannah is waiting for me outside, a hoodie on her arms. “You look angry, babe.”I say nothing in response to her and keep walking while she follows behind me.“You’re walking to the dorm? And you didn’t even change…” she comments.I st

CassianFrom where I am sitting on the bleachers, I can see the exact moment the rug is pulled from under Rhett’s feet.He is standing on the ice, looking completely paralyzed as the coach yells at the entire team. His mouth is slightly open, his eyes blinking in absolute confusion as Jacob gets chewed out and kicked off the team for a petition he obviously knows nothing about. I can’t help the slow smirk that spreads across my lips. It’s beautiful.Rhett thought he had me cornered this morning with his little stack of evidence. He really thought being the son of the owner of Blackridge meant he could just boss me around and force me into submission. But he forgot that I know how to play dirty, too; even though I admit I was very careless about getting him to be my roommate. At least I have learned my lesson from it.He wanted a public apology on the university forum, so I gave him one—and I just made sure to route the digital signature through Jacob’s student portal before I hit uplo

His eyes are locked into mine, anger evident in them as he tries to process that I actually have him cornered and he doesn’t have much of a choice here.“You’re a real piece of work, Reed,” he spits, reaching out to grab his laptop. His eyes still don’t move away from mine even as he opens it.When it comes on, the bright light illuminates his face, making my heart flutter just a little. I swallow, trying to push away the feelings my wolf is throwing at me.Cassian’s fingers hit the keyboard with so much force I’m surprised the keys don’t pop out or stop working. He clicks a few times, and I can literally hear his jaw grinding so hard. After a final, aggressive tap, he turns the laptop around and looks up at me.“There,” Cassian snaps, glaring at me. “It’s gone. Completely wiped. Happy now?”“No,”
