Rhettie?

Cassian

Rhett is looking at me with shock plastered on his face, his mouth open and opening and closing like a fish. He’s confused because why the fuck would I, of all people, save his ass out there on the rink when I’m not even supposed to be there.

I smile and wrap my arm around his shoulder. “You’re literally injured, Rhett, and now you’re in practice? I told you not to come. Glad I decided to stop by.”

By now, Rhett has realized what game I’m playing because he shoves my arm and glares down at me harshly. But the damage is already done. I can hear the frantic whispering from his teammates, and best of all, Cassidy Green is standing at the other side of the bleachers, filming the whole interaction for her TikTok account. She’s a popular puck bunny, and half of Blackridge follows her account where she posts everything about them from training to hangouts, parties… This is going to keep the entire campus talking for weeks—Rhett Reed, the mighty bad boy captain, needing a protector to fight his battles on his own ice. I am completely emasculating him in front of the people who are supposed to fear him. A few more stunts like this, and it won’t just be his tough-guy reputation on the line; everyone will begin to question his orientation.

Just then, his coach skates over, looking furious as he glances between me and Jacob, who is still groaning and trying to pick himself up off the floor.

“Who the fuck are you, and why are you on my ice?”

“Someone close to Rhett,” I say smoothly, giving him a sweet, innocent blink. “And he’s injured badly, so I’m here to take him back to the dorm. Also, you lot are violent folks.” I give a mock shudder, pretending to look disgusted by the sport, and slide my arm right back around Rhett’s shoulder. “Let’s go, Rhettie,” I murmur.

Rhett tries to pull away, his muscles tensing, but I keep my grip firm. He can’t actually fight it because his body is too weak from the beating his father gave him, so he’s forced to lean into me, stumbling slightly as I guide his body off the ice. For a second, I want to feel pity for him because of what he is going through, but I push the thought to the back of my mind.

He deserves every bit of this. He deserves every bad thing that comes to him.

The moment we are away from prying eyes, Rhett snaps.

“Whatever fucked up game you’re playing needs to fucking stop,” he seethes, his voice dropping to a harsh whisper. “Rhettie??? Are you fucked in the head? And why take me away from training?”

I drop my arm, the fake sweetness instantly evaporating from my face. I look at him, completely unbothered by his anger. “If you’re so pissed off, why don’t you just go back to the ice?”

Rhett lets out a frustrated breath. “Because you’re not letting me!”

I burst out laughing just then. “Wow. You make it sound like I’m your mommy, Rhett. Grow some balls and make your own decisions.”

I don’t wait for his response. I turn on my heel and walk away, leaving him to limp back to the lockers alone. I know he’s not going back out on the ice because his coach won’t let him play now that he knows he is injured.

By the time Rhett makes it back to the dorm room, I’m already sprawled out on my bed, tapping away on my laptop. He looks even more exhausted than before.

“Took you long enough,” I snicker.

“Well, thanks to you, my coach gave me a long talk, and the only reason he is not kicking me off right now is because of my injuries. I hope you got what you wanted.”

“Nah,” I smirk. “Not even close to getting what I want.”

Without saying a word to me, he grabs a fresh change of clothes and storms into the bathroom, slamming the door.

I smile, stretch my arms over my head, and decide to head down to the vending machines to grab a drink, leaving my laptop sitting wide open on the desk.

When I walk back into the room ten minutes later, clutching a soda, the atmosphere has completely changed.

Rhett is standing by my desk, still in his sweatpants. Hus hair is damp from the shower, dripping slightly but he isn’t moving to do anything about it. He is staring at my open screen, gripping the edge of the table so hard it has become bent. The expression on his face is beautiful—betrayal, shock, fury.

He slowly turns his head to look at me, and damn, if looks could kill, I’d be gone.

“Woah, should I be scared?” I tease.

“What the fuck is this?”

I blink at him, taking a sip of my drink slowly as I close the door behind me. “What do you mean?”

“You started the fucking petition!” Rhett yells, pointing a trembling finger at the screen, where a change.org page is brightly displayed. The headline reads: Remove Rhett Reed as Blackridge Hockey Captain Due to Gross Negligence and Unprofessional Conduct. It already has over four hundred signatures from the student body, even though it’s only been three days since I put it up immediately after his game.

“Oh, that?” I ask carelessly, walking over and shutting the laptop screen halfway. “I forgot I even sent that out after your disastrous performance at the last game. Wow, look at those numbers. People really seem to agree with me.”

“Are you out of your fucking mind?!” Rhett yells, stepping into my space, his eyes flashing with rage. “This is my life, Cassian! My father is going to kill me if the board sees this!”

I don’t flinch. Instead, I let my smile spread even wider. It’s time to play my favorite game: gaslighting.

“Why are you yelling at me, Rhett?” I ask in a very soft and patronizing tone. “First off? Why did you invade my privacy and check my laptop?”

“You left it open and I saw my picture!”

“Even so,” I reply, “you had no right. It’s a violation of my privacy, and if you hadn’t been performing like garbage on the ice, no one would have signed it. You brought this on yourself. Plus, how are you just knowing about it? Your little girlfriend didn’t tell you?”

“Don’t bring her into this!” he roars. “And I was distracted because of you! That performance was—”

“Because of me?” I chuckle, stepping even closer as I interrupted him. “I was just in the fucking stands, minding my own business. Why were you even looking at me in the first place, Rhett?”

“Because I—”

I don’t let him finish. “There are thousands of people in the stands and I’m the only one capable of distracting you? Is that a confession you’re trying to make, Rhett? Eww.”

Rhett opens his mouth to argue, but no words come out. He just stares at me, completely paralyzed by the trap I’ve laid for him.

Rhett I needed to get away from Blackridge.Between feeling suffocated by my father paying me surprise visits, the rumors spreading around the hockey team, and Cassian constantly finding new ways to drive me insane in that dorm room, I just needed to breathe. So, I packed a bag and decided to take Savannah to my late mother’s cottage for the weekend. It was a small, secluded place deep in the woods, about an hour away from the campus. I hadn’t been here in about three years because every single time, I remembered that she had died and how she died, making me angry and bitter all the same. But now, I had come here to confront my worst fears. The plan we had was simple: clean up the dust and make dinner together. Savannah had been really excited about it, but I really was not. It just felt like a relief to be out of the city.“It’s really beautiful here, Rhett,” Savannah said softly, placing a box of groceries on the wooden kitchen counter. She smiled at me, looking around at the dusty

  • Rooming With The Enemy: The Alpha’s Forbidden Mate   14. Lying To Myself

Cassian Three bubbles appear on the screen as soon as I send the text, dancing for a few seconds as Jacob starts to type a response, and then they suddenly disappear. I wait for a few more minutes for a response, hoping it’s because of a bad Wi-Fi connection on his end or mine, but there is nothing. A cold sweat breaks out across the back of my neck. I tuck my phone deep into my pocket, look once at the closed bathroom door where the water is still running, and step out of the room without thinking. My legs are moving before my brain can even formulate a rational excuse for what I’m doing. I keep telling myself I’m only doing this because I want to destroy Rhett my way, but the panic I feel is telling a completely different story. I am only lying to myself about what I truly want. The hallway is freezing cold, and I am not even sure if Jacob us in my block or not. There is no reason why Rhett should be going out again this night, so it can’t be tonight he has whatever gang pl

  • Rooming With The Enemy: The Alpha’s Forbidden Mate   13. Someone You ADORE

CassianRhett walks into the room just as I am putting away my laundry I have just received from the dry cleaners. He sighs when he sees me and rolls his eyes, dropping his helmet on his bed. “So, what’s this about, huh?”“What?” I ask, blinking innocently at him. I cross my arms over my chest as I take a few steps toward him.“Jacob? Savannah?” He scoffs and shakes his head, sucking his teeth. “Yeah, you’re up to something that’s not good.”I tilt my head at him and lift my brows. “You sound paranoid. I hear therapy works for constant paranoia… that it might be PTSD from something traumatic. Or maybe you’re scared of karma. Did you do something bad, Rhettie?”He lets out a laugh of disbelief, and this time, he is the one that takes a step forward, until there’s almost no space between us. “Wow, Cassian. Who knew you had so much evil in you… you mentioned therapy to Savannah, didn’t you?”“She agrees you need it,” I smile graciously. “We got to talking, and she admits there’s somethin

RhettCassian is up to something, and I need to know what.First, he had been playing nice with Savannah by the bleachers, and as soon as practice was over, she had come to tell me that my roommate was nice and cared about me. Now, I am walking into the locker room to see Jacob sitting and talking with Cassian fucking Storm. I just can’t prove it yet, but I am sure as fuck my gut feeling isn’t wrong.“What the hell is this about, Storm?” I ask in a cold tone, walking up to him until I’m completely in his space.“I don’t know, Reed. What do you want it to be about?”“Stay the fuck away from this arena or space, Cassian,” I warn him.The door opens behind me, the rest of my teammates pouring in. I take a step back, give a tight smile, and then walk off.Savannah is waiting for me outside, a hoodie on her arms. “You look angry, babe.”I say nothing in response to her and keep walking while she follows behind me.“You’re walking to the dorm? And you didn’t even change…” she comments.I st

CassianFrom where I am sitting on the bleachers, I can see the exact moment the rug is pulled from under Rhett’s feet.He is standing on the ice, looking completely paralyzed as the coach yells at the entire team. His mouth is slightly open, his eyes blinking in absolute confusion as Jacob gets chewed out and kicked off the team for a petition he obviously knows nothing about. I can’t help the slow smirk that spreads across my lips. It’s beautiful.Rhett thought he had me cornered this morning with his little stack of evidence. He really thought being the son of the owner of Blackridge meant he could just boss me around and force me into submission. But he forgot that I know how to play dirty, too; even though I admit I was very careless about getting him to be my roommate. At least I have learned my lesson from it.He wanted a public apology on the university forum, so I gave him one—and I just made sure to route the digital signature through Jacob’s student portal before I hit uplo

His eyes are locked into mine, anger evident in them as he tries to process that I actually have him cornered and he doesn’t have much of a choice here.“You’re a real piece of work, Reed,” he spits, reaching out to grab his laptop. His eyes still don’t move away from mine even as he opens it.When it comes on, the bright light illuminates his face, making my heart flutter just a little. I swallow, trying to push away the feelings my wolf is throwing at me.Cassian’s fingers hit the keyboard with so much force I’m surprised the keys don’t pop out or stop working. He clicks a few times, and I can literally hear his jaw grinding so hard. After a final, aggressive tap, he turns the laptop around and looks up at me.“There,” Cassian snaps, glaring at me. “It’s gone. Completely wiped. Happy now?”“No,”
