Lane Archer, Moonvale’s Delta, was waiting for them when they arrived.

A middle-aged man who knew more about the pack’s customs than Lorraine. Athena knew he was a strong candidate for the beta position as well, but Lorraine had been her choice.

Lane had been abroad when Moonvale was attacked, yet he came back to the scorched-down pack with his mate, rebuilt the home his brother had been killed in, and was one of those who received Athena back to Moonvale when she had been expecting to meet an empty pack.

Just like back then, he was waiting for them just beyond the border.

Athena motioned for Raymond to stop and he did so silently.

She patted his arm subconsciously before getting down from the car, the ache from everything that happened settling in.

“Lane,” Athena called with a serene smile that showed nothing of the turmoil in her mind.
