“I’m sorry," Jace whispered, his voice cracking. “I shouldn’t have doubted you. I should have trusted you more.”

He held my hand, and I felt something wet drop onto my skin. Tears. Jace was crying, actually crying.

Perfect.

The sound of his voice told me everything I needed to know. He felt guilty. He thought everything was his fault. He thought he was the one who had pushed me into this coma. He believed he had broken me.

I wanted to open my eyes right then and there. I wanted to smile that sweet smile he loved so much. I wanted to see the relief flood his face.

But I didn’t.

Because watching him suffer like this was so much better. This was exactly what I wanted. Make him feel guilty. Make him think he destroyed me. Make him believe every lie I fed him.
