I wonder if anyone is asking about my whereabouts. I hardly take a day off at work. The maids pack the dishes from the table. My stomach lurches. I haven't eaten. I sneak off to the kitchen. I pull the door handle. It doesn't budge. I try again. Nothing. I'm about to pounce on it when I hear the jingling of keys. "Are you hungry, sister?" Her cruel smile fills her stupid face. I curl my nails. She's doing this on purpose. "Do you want this?" Her red nails play with the keys. Three painted in gold. The other steel. That's the one I need. "Can you see how much your beloved husband wants me?" I dig my nails deeper. My stepsister was always the planner. "I only see an unloved bastard," I spit, noticing her red hair packed into a simple bun. "Playing the submissive wife already, sister?" She fumes. "You never shared your toys with me. And now I have what belongs to you." I laugh coldly. "He loves you because of that thing in your womb. Not you." "Then why did he fuck me several times in his office and take me to fertility clinics?" Confusion spreads across my face. I didn't know he was grooming her all this while. How little I know my husband. "Accept it. Desmond is mine," she whispers close to my ear. Is that how much he wanted a child that this was the only solution? Was I stupid for staying in this marriage? She flashes the bank card. "Better get ready." I watch her take the kitchen keys and the card. The only way I get locked up, is If Red doesn't show up at the party. At the Mall The car is filled to the brim. We took a Rolls Royce and two extra security guards. Cyanne wears a short dress that exposes her legs while she gawks at her phone. Her eyes are a bit dim and anxious as she's on it. I wonder who she's texting. Probably one of her sugar daddies. Desmond rarely texts during meetings. She puts the phone down and I remove my hand from my stomach. "I want to get married to Desmond." Her voice booms casually across the car and I know she means it. Then marry him. I say "He's still in love with you," she adds. I laugh tears in my eyelid. You are pretty delusional to think that. Double thick lines on her face. "Just dissapper " I wish. I smile at her That devilish smirk spread across her face but flickers this time and I know I had struck a nerve. I can barely breathe through the crowds that are trooping to meet Cyanne. It's like she's a mini celebrity here. No wonder she chose this place to rub it in my face. To show how much they need her. Yet the only thing I see are fake smiles, fake hugs, and the way people lean in to feel included. I don't want to be here. This is her life. Not mine. We're never close, no matter how our parents tried to force us to play nice. "I'm through," she eyes me, looking at my empty hands. My hands search from one glass wardrobe to the other lazily. One eye on the crowd. Searching for help. I slip off in another direction, away from her sight. I hear her laughing with someone in the background. Good. She's distracted. This place looks expensive. More than her paycheck. My eyes dart over my shoulder for the guard trailing me. I want to lose him. I slip into another section when I catch sight of a lady in corporate wear. My body bumps into hers. She catches me before I fall. "Are you okay?" "Not quite," I turn to check if the guard followed me here. Great. I lost him. "Can you help me?" I beg. She hesitates, deciding whether to help or not. "Is anyone after you?" "Yes. Yes. I just need to get out of here." She dips her hand into her bag. "Sister, have you started again?" Cyanne's voice makes the stranger stop. "Is she your...?" The stranger points, like she knows Cyanne. Cyanne nods. "I've been looking for her all over the place. She's a bit out of it." "Oh, that explains it. She thinks someone is after her." No words come out of my mouth to defend myself. I'm so cooked. "Sorry. I'm going to go now," the stranger apologizes and leaves me with no second thought. Cyanne's hands grip my hair tightly. The guards watch but do nothing. I try to yank free but I'm partly weak from not eating anything. "After this, Desmond won't even recognize you." "Cyanne, stop." "Cyanne, stop it." "Stop it, please." I fight with what little strength I have. Too late. She smashes my head against one of the glass wardrobes causing a crack. Blood drips from my head to the floor. I fall on my knees breathing hard as I blink my eyes. Cyanne stands there, smiling. "That's for calling me a bastard." Her figure dances in front of me. My head throbbing from the impact. I blink severally the pain intense. Suddenly everywhere is pitch black. If this is the price I have to pay for freedom, I will do it gladly. That voice that perfume I can recognize the smell anywhere even if I was locked up in a cell. He's staring at me with a smile on his face. I don't know if my ex husband thinks he has nine lives but I am at my limit. Who allowed you back here?I might not be wealthy but I do know a lot of people.Get out with your stupid roses and placard. Two thousand grand. What? That's what it cost me to put everything together. I fold my arms. I don't care. All of this doesn't matter. He placed a hand against his chest. Forgive me, I didn't know you were pregnant when I threw you out. It's been seven years and all I get is an apology. What do you want my bank account? The company? I will give it all to be with you. It's too late. Then tell me what you need, tell me what I can do. Nothing. I am doing fine on my own and I am married.Lisa is my daughter. I deserve to be in her life. He argued like fate didn't give him that chance and it slipped through his fingers. She isn't yours.Liar. He snar
A brief knock on the door, and I wiped my tears off. A doctor walked in with a brown file in his hands."Ainsworth told me to come find you.""Okay, Doctor, he just left not few minutes ago."He removed his glasses. "I came here to talk about something urgent." This is really odd; doctors don't just come into rooms looking for their patients."Let's have a word in private." He opened the door. I followed behind. He seats on the desk with a laptop in front of him. "Lisa's recovery is going well."I gave a slight nod, waiting for the worst to drop."There's something else, something that you need to hear.""What is it?" I shifted uncomfortably on my chair."Her blood level is low, and I think it's because of the drugs and the fever combined.""I can always donate my blood at the hospital."He stared at me for a minute. "Your husband didn't tell you?""Tell me about...""I checked your blood type; it's not a match. She has a very rare blood group, unfortunately not compatible with you or
Desmond PovMy grip tightened around her throat. She struggled to breathe, her face turning a pale, sickly shade under the harsh bathroom light.I didn't want to stop. She had caused me a lifetime of pain that couldn't be quenched with mere words. Her fingers slapped frantically against my arms, tearing painfully at my hands, trying to pry my fingers loose."I can… help… don't kill me," she choked out, fighting for air. "I will be doing everyone a favor.""If you kill me… Lavanda will hate you."I bit my lip, slowly releasing my grip. I couldn't bear the thought of Lavanda hating me. I still loved her just as much as I had before everything fell apart. The house, my company, my bank account—everything had remained in ruins ever since she left.Cyanne held her bruised neck, staring up at me in absolute shock. I had endured so much because of our son: her late nights, her clubbing, her complete lack of common decency. I was finally done.My eyes burned through her skin."I have a plan w
Desmond povI carefully sorted out the ice cubes in a champagne bucket. My fingers were a bit cold from the contact. I didn't stop until it was filled up.I carried it upstairs with a bottle of wine, accompanied by her snores echoing all over the living room. It's been two days since she was released, but she never made an effort to see Will.Cyanne is the devil. She's been abusive to my son, but I didn't see her shed a single tear once.I stopped by the living room, hoisting her onto my shoulder towards the bedroom. The smell of cigarettes filtered through my nose. I dumped her heavy body into the icy cold bathtub.I checked my wristwatch; it ticked slowly. Two minutes more until the cold bites in.My body crouched over the tub while I sipped my wine."Fucccccck, am I in hell?" She splashed water all over the place. It dripped down the tiles. Her eyes scanned the unfamiliar tub. I watched her silently until she realized where she was.She tried to get out, the cold seeping through he
Desmond POVIt was almost midnight. Cyanne still wasn't back.Lavanda had never kept late nights, nor had she ever left our home cold and without a warm dinner waiting on the table. I had never realized just how much I relied on that comforting presence until she walked out of my life. The mouthwatering aroma of her freshly baked chicken, or the savory scent of her seasoned fish served with steamed broccoli, used to filter through the entire house while she cooked. It was a home filled with warmth and life. But I had taken it all for granted—never appreciating her care until the bankruptcy hit and I could no longer afford to pay a full staff of maids to clean up after us.I pulled a blister pack of medication from my inner jacket pocket and popped out a single pill. There was not a scrap of food in the kitchen to help digest the heavy drug properly. This wasn't the first of many nights I had slept on a hollow, growling stomach, simply too exhausted to argue or fight anymore. But tonig
LavandaLisa stared blankly at Desmond, not quite believing what she was hearing.“You aren't my Dad,” she said, her voice small but absolute, immediately rejecting the very thought of him as her father.Desmond’s face shriveled with worry. I wondered if he was actually expecting her to say, “Yes, Daddy.” He had always possessed a side of him that was borders on delusional. A child he had rejected at birth was the exact same child he desperately wanted to father now.I pulled him away from her bedside with a stern glare. “I don’t want you anywhere close to my child.”“You can’t keep my daughter away from me!” he snapped back. Before he could take another step, Ainsworth yanked him roughly by the collar, ready to throw him out of the room—looking like he’d been itching to do so for hours.“Get your filthy hands off me!” Desmond hissed.“My wife doesn’t want you here,” Ainsworth warned, his voice low and dangerous. “Don’t come here and mess up my child’s recovery.”Desmond let out a dar
