Kiera’s POV

“You will be forced to make a choice. Soon. One decision will protect your son but weaken the pack. The other will protect the pack but place your son in danger.”

The witch’s words wouldn’t leave my head. They followed me through every thought, every breath I took in that old stone house. Her voice had been calm when she’d said it, matter-of-fact, like she was telling me a story instead of predicting the impossible choice that would tear my life apart.

“The Moon Goddess is with you, child. Remember that when the darkness feels too heavy to carry.”

Those had been her last words before she’d simply vanished. Not walked away, or left through a door. Just disappeared like smoke dissolving in air.

I sat on the cold floor of the house, my back pressed against the rough stone wall, thinking about everything she’d told me. The council’s deception. The trials designed to kill me instead of test me. The secrets that would destroy reputations if exposed. The choice I’d have to make

  • Runaway Luna Rider   180: The Plan For Survival

Kiera’s POV I landed hard on cracked earth that looked like it had never known water. The sky was somehow not dark, not light, just an absence of color that hurt to look at. No sun, no stars. Nothing but endless gray stretching in every direction over a landscape that felt completely dead. And standing in the center of this desolation was the Broker. Not the shifting shadow form it usually wore. This was something else… its true form. Pure darkness given shape and consciousness. Ancient hunger wrapped in intelligence that predated language. I could feel its age pressing down on me, millions of years of existence compressing into a single moment of awareness.“Welcome to the final trial, Guardian.”Its voice didn’t echo here. There was nothing for sound to bounce off, so the words just existed, hanging in the dead air.“What is this place?” I asked, trying to orient myself.“Nowhere, but everywhere. The space between spaces where reality frays.” The Broker’s form rippled. “This is whe

  • Runaway Luna Rider   179: The Last Trial

Kiera’s POV The aftermath of truth was harder than the telling. I walked through the territory after passing the second trial, and everything felt different. Not the physical space… that remained unchanged. But the way people looked at me had shifted in subtle, uncomfortable ways. Some pack members met my eyes with new understanding, like they finally saw me as someone real rather than an Luna. Others glanced away quickly, uncomfortable with the knowledge of my darkest thoughts. A few looked at me with something close to pity, which somehow felt worse than judgment. The pedestal they’d placed me on… Guardian, Luna, the woman who’d survived impossible odds, had developed visible fractures. I was human now in their eyes. Capable of ugly thoughts and shameful desires. Part of me appreciated the honesty. The other part mourned the loss of their uncomplicated faith in me. “You’re different,” Thomas observed during training two days after the trial. “Quieter.” “I’m tired.” It wasn’t

  • Runaway Luna Rider   178: The Awakening

Darius’s POV The room held absolute silence after Kiera’s final confession.I felt like someone had punched through my chest and grabbed my heart. Not because of what she’d said… though hearing those truths was devastating, but because of the pain it cost her to speak them.My mate stood in the center of that vast space, surrounded by visible darkness that clung to her like a living thing, tears streaming down her face, completely exposed. Every ugly thought, shameful moment, and dark impulse laid bare for hundreds to judge. And she was magnificent.“Does the audience accept these confessions as genuine?” the Broker asked again, its voice carrying across the stone tiers.I stood before anyone else could speak.“Yes.” My voice rang out clear and strong. “She told the truth. Every painful, honest word of it.”Kiera’s eyes met mine across the distance. I saw fear there… fear that I’d reject her now, fear that knowing these truths would destroy what we’d rebuilt.“Kiera admitted she enjo

  • Runaway Luna Rider   177: The Truth

Kiera’s POV I barely had time to process surviving the first trial before the Broker returned for the second. No warning beyond the creeping dread that followed me constantly, reminding me that this reprieve was temporary. At midnight, the pack gathered at the border again, but the energy was different this time. Less hopeful. They’d seen me return from the first trial shaken but alive. Now they waited to see if I could do it twice. The Broker materialized exactly as the clock struck twelve.“Guardian Kiera. Time for the second trial.”My stomach dropped. I’d hoped for more time. “What is it?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.“The Trial of Truth.” The Broker’s form shifted into something almost gleeful. “You passed the first trial through faith. But this trial requires something you find far more difficult… honesty.”A new portal opened beside it. Not swirling darkness this time, but something that looked like shattered mirrors reflecting things that shouldn’t exist.“You wi

  • Runaway Luna Rider   176: The Torment

Kiera’s POV Eli’s screams pierced through me like a sharp blade. The flames had reached his ankles now, licking at his small body through the cage bars. He was crying for me, calling for his mama to save him.And Jack stood between us, empty-eyed and waiting. The knife glinted on the floor.I dove for the transparent wall again, slamming my fists against it. “Eli! Hold on, baby, just hold on!”But the wall wouldn’t break. It was solid as reality itself… which meant it probably wasn’t real at all. This was a test. The Broker wouldn’t actually kill Eli here because then the contract would be fulfilled and there’d be no more trials. This had to be illusion, manipulation, torture disguised as impossible choice. But what if I was wrong?Jack picked up the knife. His movements were jerky, unnatural, like a puppet on strings. He advanced toward me with precision.I backed away instinctively. “Jack, I know you’re in there. This isn’t you. You’re being controlled.”No response. Just that awfu

  • Runaway Luna Rider   175: A Night Before

Kiera’s POV The night before the trial, something unexpected happened. The entire pack gathered in the central square at sunset. Not just Blackhowl wolves, but representatives from allied territories. Zeus arrived with his contingent from Stormclaw. The Steel Vultures rode in formation, Jack at their head. Even some former neutral packs sent delegates.“What is this?” I asked Thomas, who was helping coordinate the crowd.“A vigil. The pack wanted to show support. Then word spread, and…” He gestured at the gathering. “…everyone wanted to be here.”Hundreds of wolves and humans filled the square. Someone had lit candles and torches, creating a sea of flickering light. The atmosphere was solemn but not hopeless. More like determination made visible.Elder Cassia stepped forward. “Guardian Kiera, Luna of Blackhowl, we gather tonight to stand with you. Tomorrow you face trials designed to break the strongest among us. But you don’t face them alone. Every wolf here, human ally, heart that
