Chapter 8

Clara POV

Today was not a good day as I was rushing to get things done. I had woken up late, and slept pass my alarm, luckily my kids were awake, due to the alarm I set up for them as well and they did their routine before waking me up.

And now I was speeding through traffic cutting in tight spaces to get the kids to school before heading to my workplace. I had never gotten to work late because my boss was a terror and I didn't want to have my salary deducted not while I had all these bills to take care of.

"Remember to stay in school and wait for Aunt Flora to keep you two up." I said kissing their forehead in front of the school gates as they were eager to hurry inside and see their friends.

"Yes mum we got it." Alex said rolling his eyes.

"And don't forget to not talk to any strangers, at all." I continued as Kelvin interrupted me.

"Aren't you extremely late for work now mum?" He pointed out with a smirk on his face as I realized it, I didn't know why I was stalling, this wasn't the first time that I had dropped them at work, it was probably because yesterday's event had shook me up and had me worried that Callum was going to find me.

"Alright you can go in now. Stay safe." I waved at them before entering back my car and waited till they were taken in by their teacher before I drove off.

Sighing, I drank my lukewarm coffee that I was forgotten in my mad dash to get to their school on time and sipped it as I made her way to my workplace.

Luckily I was able to get there and slipped inside before any one could take in my lateness.

Standing in the elevator I hummed to myself wondering what the hell I was going to make for lunch for them..maybe I should have texted  Flora first to see if she had any ideas because she was going to be with them for the next three hours until I could get out from work.

I had barely gotten seated when I was called by my boss to meet him in his office. I gulped wondering if he had taken notice of my lateness, after all he had his eyes on me and had flirted with me in the past and I rejected it, so he was probably keeping an eye on me or something.

But when I got to the main corridor, I froze as I couldn't believe my eyes. Standing in front of me was no other than Callum, the doctor who I had escaped from after he saved my life and he was accompanied by a lady who seemed to be with him by the fact she had draped her hands all over him.

I tried to leave but he had already looked in my direction as he called my name.

"Clara, is that you? After all this years." He spoke as I gulped and turned back around. Running around wouldn't solve my problem neither would pretending to have amnesia.

And I noticed the lady beside him was giving me the stink eye already. I hadn't even said anything as we kept staring at each other so why the hatred.

"I'm Leah, his fiancee." The lady stated bringing her hand out for a handshake as I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. Did I ask....left unsaid. I didn't want to stir any more trouble so I quietly shook her hands and retrieved it quickly.

"What are you doing here?" He asked taking over the conversation again as I turned to look at him.

"Working. I work here now." I said timidly as he pulled his hand away from Leah and walked towards me as I shuffled my feet backwards wondering if I hadn't made things worse.

"So you ran away from me, after owing me a debt just to work in the same city. Do you really think I wouldn't find you? Or did you find it funny living under my nose?" He said pinning me to the wall as I looked away trying to calm myself down as I could notice people were whispering and talking about us.

This seemed to have made his girl jealous as she cleared her throat loudly which made Callum to step back.

"This isn't over yet. Now that I have found you, I'll make sure you suffer." He said as Leah came and wrapped her hand around him.

"Why don't you leave us alone. What do you think you are trying to accomplish seducing my man?!" Leah stated as I was flabbergasted.

What on earth was she talking about? Seducing who? He was the one who was about to kill me with his bare hands.

Instead of giving my opinion I nodded my head and apologized,

"I'm very sorry ma. This won't happen again." And took off quickly in the opposite direction. I couldn't afford to lose my job and I didn't want to make my life a living hell not if I could help it, so if it meant lowering myself to Leah to insult me, then I would gladly accept it.

Luckily Callum didn't come after me, which was something I counted as a victory. I quickly got into my boss office and shut the door behind me as he looked up from what he was reading and said,

"Took you long enough to get here. What the hell was you doing out there?" He asked as I quickly bowed my head.

"Apologies sir. I had to make use of the restroom. I didn't mean to make myself late. It won't happen again." I said as he replied,

"See to it that it doesn't. I have no use for such tardiness in my workplace. Now come and get this documents, I need it printed before my next meeting." He said pointing to a batch on the floor as I made my way to it.
