“Strawberries? Blueberries? Um… a few peach slices?” I turned to Edith who was smiling from ear to ear as she watched me with fascination.

“You’re missing just one more ingredient,” she says to me as she raises her fork with a piece of pie stuck to it.

She wiggles her fork and the smell of the freshly-baked pastry fills my nose.

“A little bit of lemon juice!” I said with much confidence after being able to detect which exact ingredients she had baked int it.

“Yes! Exactly that!” Edith says cheerfully, followed by a clap.

“Bravo, kid. You truly have a spectacular sense of smell.” Christopher appeared from behind the kitchen door and gave me a glass of what looked like wine.

“Christopher,” Edith called him as she tilted her head with a bemused expression.

“What? It’s sparkling wine, sweetheart.” He corrected and I couldn’t help but let out a soft chuckle.
