Chapter 38 Violet's pov four months later

We lived in a small community of rogues. The rogues would watch me as I traveled to the wood pile, making me feel uncomfortable with their glares. I figured it was because I smelled rancid and was horribly deformed since being told that daily by Isabella. I ignored her berating words and just worked harder. It was another day of hauling in wood through several feet of mushy, thawing snow. I had a limp due to my leg injury. It was the last few days of February and I was praying daily to whichever God would hear me to bring spring. Thankfully it was melting and purple crocus were beginning to break through the thawing ground preparing to bloom making me smile.

I'd been receiving monthly injections and was informed by doctor Randall that it was what was keeping me alive.
