"She's gone."

Damien stared at the empty room. Celeste's bag was missing. Her laptop was gone. Even the small bracelet she always left on the nightstand had disappeared.

She'd left him.

He slammed his fist in opposition to the wall. Ache shot through his knuckles however he barely felt it. Nothing hurts worse than the hollow in his chest right now.

Marcus showed up at the door. "Sir, we've checked everywhere. No sign of her."

"Check again," Damien said. His voice came out rough. "She can't just disappear."

But she had. Just like she always said she would.

Marcus looked uncomfortable. "Should I contact the team in Geneva?"

"No." Damien ran his hand through his hair. "She doesn't want to be found. Not by me."

The truth hurt worse than anything. Celeste had asked if he knew about her identity all along. When he said yes, he'd suspected it, something broke inside her.

He saw it happen. The trust left her face. She stepped back even though she was right there in front of him.

“Neither of you.”Celeste’s voice cut through the tension like a knife.Rylan froze. Liam looked lost.“What?” Rylan asked.“I’m not choosing either of you,” Celeste said. “I’m done choosing what people expect me to do.”“That wasn’t an option.”“I’m making one.”She walked to Liam and started untying him.Rylan raised his gun. “Stop,” he warned.Celeste didn’t flinch. “Shoot me then. But I’m freeing him.”“You suspect I received’t?”“I suppose you want me alive,” she said quietly. “If not, I’d already be lifeless.”Rylan’s jaw tightened, but he didn’t shoot.Celeste kept operating until Liam became free.He stood slowly, legs vulnerable.“Are you able to walk?” she requested. He nodded, silent. Too many years of drugs.“Good. Stay close.”She turned to Rylan. “You said you wanted to burn it all—the families, the lies, everything.”“I do.”“Then we want the same thing. But I’m not joining you. I’ll do it my way.”“Your way will get you killed.”“Maybe. But at least it’s my choice.”Ry

"You wanted the truth. Here it is."Celeste stood in her mother’s office again. She shouldn’t have come. Subject Twelve had warned her not to.Her instincts had screamed don’t go.But she needed actual answers — now not half-truths or guesses. Her mom sat behind her grand table, calm as ever, like she had been expecting this moment."I’m listening," Celeste said quietly."Sit down first.""I’ll stand."Her mother gave a faint smile. "Still stubborn. You got that from me.""I didn’t come here to talk about that. I want the truth about Silent Crown. What it really is. What you did. And why.""Where do I start?""The beginning. And don’t lie to me. I’ll know."Her mother poured herself a drink. She didn’t offer Celeste one.Typical."The project started forty years ago," she began. "Three families — Kavanagh, Belmont, and Cross. We’d been killing each other for centuries. No one could stop it. So we tried something new."Celeste crossed her arms. "You decided to play god.""We decided to

“I was seven when they gave me your file.”Damien’s words broke the silence. They had escaped the gas chamber—barely.Subject Twelve had found a way out through a small air vent. That they had crawled for what felt like all the time, lungs burning, hearts racing. Now, they had been hiding in an antique, dusty apartment three blocks far from the Belmont estate.Celeste sat on the floor. Her head was spinning—from the gas, from fear, from the truth.“What?” she asked weakly.Damien didn’t look at her. He stared at his hands.“I need to tell you everything,” he said. “The real truth. No more half stories.”“I don’t want to hear it.”“You need to,” he said softly. “Before we move forward. Before you trust me again.”Celeste’s chest felt tight. She didn’t want more truth. Truth always hurts. But she nodded. “Fine. Talk.”Damien took a deep breath.“After my parents died, I thought I would be sent to foster care...but it wasn’t real. It was a program. Run by people connected to the families

“There’s another room.”Celeste pressed her palm against the wall. It sounded hollow — like something was hidden behind it.They were back inside the Belmont estate. Risky. Maybe even stupid. But Celeste needed answers. The flash drive had told her how she was made, but not why.“Are you sure?” Damien asked from the door. He was keeping watch. They’d broken in through a service tunnel two hours before dawn — the quietest time of night.“I’m sure. Help me find the trigger.”They both ran their hands across the old wooden panels. Feeling for a switch or button. Then Celeste found it — a small indent, barely visible. She pressed it.The wall clicked and slowly slid open, revealing a narrow hidden passage.“Of course there’s a secret passage,” Damien muttered. “Why am I not surprised?”They stepped inside. The tunnel was dark and narrow. Celeste turned on her phone flashlight. The air was cold. The walls were made of stone — old, maybe even older than the house itself.“Where do you think

“She’s lying to you.”Damien’s voice came from in the back of the pillar. Celeste froze. She thought she was on my own. Though she ought to sneak via the Belmont estate overlooked.“I instructed you to leave,” she whispered.“And that I told you I'm not going anywhere.”He stepped out of the shadows. His face turned out to be tough to read. Quiet. managed.“How long have you ever been following me?” she asked.“Since you ran. Since you said we were done.”“We are done.”“No. We’re not. But that’s not what matters now. What matters is what I just heard.”Celeste had been eavesdropping outside the council room. Her mother was inside, talking to a Belmont general.“What did you hear?” she asked.“The same thing you did. They’re using you. Even your mother.”Celeste’s chest tightened. She’d heard it too, but hearing Damien say it made it real. It hurt.“Maybe you misunderstood,” she said weakly.“Did I? Listen again.”Celeste pressed her ear to the door. Her mother’s voice came through. C

"I did it to save you."Celeste’s mother stood in the private room. They had barely escaped the compound. Rylan’s attack had given them cover, and now they were in a safe house—or so her mother claimed."Save me from what?" Celeste demanded. Her hands shook, from anger, from fear, from everything."From the prophecy. From what they wanted to turn you into."Damien stood near the door, silent. His gun was ready, his eyes sharp. He hadn’t said much since they escaped—just watched, and listened."Start from the beginning," Celeste said. "No more lies."Her mother sat down. She appeared older than Celeste remembered, worn-out in a manner that made her chest ache."My name is Catherine. I was born in Kavanagh. Married into the Belmonts. That part was true.""And the rest?""I faked my death six years ago. Went underground. Joined the Belmont leadership and worked my way up until I became one of their top advisors.""Why?""Because they were planning something terrible. A project called Sil
