Arabella

The florist was rambling on about peonies, or maybe it was daisies. I couldn’t focus. My eyes flicked to the empty seat beside me, to the untouched tea going cold in front of me, the scattered samples and color palettes and fabric swatches littering the table like confetti for a celebration I wanted no part in.

“Arabella?” the planner prompted gently. “You like this ivory for the table runners, yes?”

I blinked, nodded. “It’s fine.”

It wasn’t fine. Nothing was. My mind wasn’t here in this sunlit room at the Falcone villa; it was back in the kitchen on the night I told Six everything.

The way he froze, the unshed tears in his eyes. The way he didn’t say a single word as he turned and walked out.

I hadn’t seen him since that day. He had completely ghosted us.

“I think vanilla-scented candles will blend better than the rose-scented ones,” the planner continued, flipping her clipboard. “Rose can be overpowering.”

“Vanilla is fine,” I murmured, my voice sounding like it belonged to

SixShe stumbled in, laughing with some guy like she didn’t have a care in the world. Her hand fumbled with the light switch, and the second the room lit up, her eyes landed on me.“Christ!” she gasped, nearly tripping backward. Her smile vanished like a switch had been flipped. “What are you doing here?”“Hello, Bianca,” I said calmly, raising my gun and pointing it straight at her.She froze, eyes wide, chest rising and falling. Her friend took a step toward her—brave, or stupid, maybe both.I tilted the gun toward him. “Now,” I said slowly, “you’re going to leave and go back to your miserable life if you know what’s best for you.”He hesitated. Idiot.“Don’t make me say it again.”His mouth opened. Nothing came out. Then, finally, he nodded quickly and scrambled out the door without a word. The door slammed behind him, and the silence was heavy.Bianca’s shoulders dropped. Disappointment flashed across her face, like she’d hoped he’d stay. Cute…“I hope you don’t like him that much

BiancaThe tension in Marco’s study was suffocating since he got back from that event. Heck, the whole house was, and that was why I always made myself scarce. Today, however, he had called for a meeting of the family.Although I didn’t think I was really a part of it, I sat silently in the corner, legs crossed, back straight, trying not to flinch every time one of them raised their voice. Marco was sitting behind his desk, his shoulders stiff, his face contorted in anger. He was barely in control.Francesco was pacing, his hands slicing through the air as he tried to make his point again and again, like he was talking to a brick wall. “We can’t do this right now,” he snapped, spinning to face Marco. “In the last weeks alone, we’ve lost eight of our men. Eight. Franco and Nonna—”His voice cracked, just for a second. “We’re bleeding out and you want to throw a funeral like nothing’s happening?”Marco’s jaw clenched so tight I could hear the grind of his teeth. “It’s not about the fune

MarcoFrancesco escorted a woman across the marble steps toward me. She was wearing a lush red dress that clung to her like a second skin. Her heels clicked with confidence, hips swaying like she knew what I wanted.Long dark hair, porcelain skin, light blue eyes—not as intense as hers, but the resemblance was enough to twist something in my gut.Francesco stopped in front of me, a scowl on his face. “She looks like her,” he muttered.“Don’t,” I said flatly, already lighting a cigarette. He gave a quiet snort. “Right. You’re working on it.”“I am.”“Yeah, sure,” he muttered under his breath.I didn’t think he believed me, and usually, I’d have taken the time to convince him, but I wasn’t feeling up to it. We had still not recovered our losses when the Chellinis struck.Six had been quiet for days, which was unlike him, but that only heightened my anxiety—the wait, not knowing who was next. It didn’t help that I had this high society function that I couldn’t miss, even though the last

MarcoThe music was blasting from the speakers, neon lights flashing, making it hard to see ahead. There was a strong stench of cigars and booze that clung to everything.Antonio’s club was exactly what I expected, with scantily clad men and women swaying their bodies seductively to the music. Some of them lay sprawled on velvet couches, clinging to the potbellied men throwing money around. When we walked in—me, Francesco, Emilio, and a wall of men behind us—the whole room cleared a path for us, mostly because of Emilio and the assault rifle that hung on his shoulders with a scowl on his face.Antonio spotted us immediately from his booth in the back, where he was nursing a glass of dark liquor and a girl was curled under his arm.The satisfied smile on his face fell, and his companion seemed to notice the change in his mood because she turned in our direction and wisely took the nearest exit.“Hey, M—Marco, I wasn’t expecting you,” he stuttered. We kept walking. His men were now on al

ArabellaHe was saying something ridiculous, something about how I laughed like a villain in an old cartoon. I swatted his arm playfully, mid-laugh, my body still trembling from the echo of it, when his phone started ringing.Leonardo pulled it from his pocket and checked the screen. His expression shifted in an instant, like someone had flipped off the lights behind his eyes. His jaw tensed. He answered it, stepping away slightly, his hand dragging down his face as he listened.I watched him carefully. His shoulders were still, but there was a different kind of tension in his stance now.The call ended. He put the phone down without a word.“Who was that?” I asked, trying to keep my tone light, even though I already knew it wasn’t good. My heart was pounding in my chest. He hesitated, then turned to face me again, that guarded look already back in his eyes.“Just one of my men,” he said. “Something happened.”“Six,” I said softly, stepping toward him. “Don’t do that. Don’t shut me ou

MarcoThe whiskey burned going down, but I welcomed it. Hell, I needed it. The more it stung, the better. I needed it to hurt. I needed something to remind me I was still breathing.I wanted to drown myself and mute the raging voices in my head. I didn’t want to think anymore. I was tired of thinking. I had done too much of that, and I was going nowhere with it.I was buried underneath beautiful, scantily clad women, and yet I could not see them. The two women lounging on either side of me smelled like expensive perfume. They were pretty, dark-haired, and by far my favorite among the women—and one of them even had blue eyes, like her. Okay, maybe I was still slightly obsessed with her…Who was I kidding? I was big obsessed with her. But that didn’t mean I wasn’t going to kill her. I would kill her if I could find her. So where the fuck was she? Was she laid up in bed with Six like I was right now? The thought filled me with rage. I clenched and unclenched my fists. One of them started
