FOUR
Audrey's POV
As I walked through the narrow way to my room, I could feel my feet trembling with each step I took.
I could hear the chatter of birds as if they were mocking me. I was in pain, I was devastated. My mate was in bed with someone else and not just anyone… a man, my mate was fucking a man.
“We should leave now, they won't even notice, no one was around, this is the perfect time to leave this hell” Lyla, my wolf said to me.
I stumbled into my room, I rushed towards my bag and I put in the few things I had, I sigh and I take one last look around my surroundings.
“Audrey, we need to leave now, he will kill us if we don’t leave now” Lyla mumbled.
I stuck my head outside the room to make sure no one was in the hallway, and with speed I ran out of my room.
I walked as fast as I could and as fate could have it I didn’t encounter any single guard on my way out, I managed to escape out of the back gate which led into the woods.
I ran as fast as my feet could carry me, and when I couldn’t run anymore I decided to rest under a huge tree. I stood under the tree trying to catch my breath when I heard rustling of leaves then I heard Beta Kevin’s voice saying “ She hasn’t gone far , her scent is near; be on standby she is still within the pack’s border”
My leg suddenly increased its pace, then I felt a sharp sting on my leg causing me to fall, I looked down and realized it was an arrow.
I hurriedly pulled out the arrow, and I changed into my wolf form with Lyla taking over. I ran as fast as I could but I soon slowed down.
I began to feel dizzy and I realized the arrow had wolfsbane. I tried as much as I could to continue running but I had to stop and I changed back to my human form.
“Catch ya” I heard a voice say and I turned to see Beta Kevin standing before me.
“You think you are smart…huh?” he asked as I whimpered in pain.
“You are so dumb and gullible, you cant even escape without being caught” he growled angrily, his hands flipping me over as I landed on a fallen tree, I winced in pain as he rushed towards me again. He flipped me harder this time I landed on the ground.
I whimpered in pain as I hugged my knees, the pain taking over me as tears began to fall from my eyes, the wolfsbane taking full effect.
This time I knew death was close, I wanted to die just so this pain could go away.
“You think you can escape me, you whore “ he growled as his voice echoed through the woods causing me to flinch in fear. “I own you”
I shivered in fear and pain, I wished someone would save me or he would just kill me to make my death less painful.
“Beta Kevin, please spare me” I begged and he let out a wicked laugh
“Spare you?” he asked.
“I should spare you after what you saw,” he asked again. “You will definitely pay for this the hard way” he said as he trailed his hands down my breast, he pulled me up and I sat on the ground, I rested my back on the tree. I was bleeding from everywhere.
“Reject me, I will accept your rejection” I blurted out the words I never thought I would say.
“You dare ask for a rejection” he roared as he landed a slap on my face.
“You are a monster, worse than the devil, knowing you are my mate was the beginning of my sorrow. I can't take this anymore” I yelled, I didn’t know where the energy came from.
Disbelief spread across his face he was surprised that I had raised my voice at him, he stood watching for a second before gripping my neck. “How dare you raise your voice at me, you whore, I do the yelling and the rejecting?” he asked.
“I fucking want a rejection asshole, I rather die being mateless than having a mate who is a monster and a fag” I spat using every energy in me.
That was it, I was tired of being treated more than a slave in my own pack, people I was to call my family. I wanted freedom and if daring him would buy my freedom or death then so be it.
“you want a rejection… can you handle it” he asked with a devilish grin
I growled at him “ there is absolutely nothing I can't handle, after everything you and your family has done to me”
“For causing me a lot of trouble I will watch my men have fun with you, then you can have your rejection” he said without any atom of remorse.
“I, Audrey Kyle of the nightwalker pack, reject you, Kevin Miller, beta of the nightwalker pack as my mate, I sever the bond binding us together as I accept to go rogue” I declared as he felt it in his chest.
I felt a deep pain in my chest, like a knife had been pierced through my heart. I had not only rejected Kevin as my mate but I also accepted to go rogue.
He looked at me with anger and hatred, that kind of look would have bothered me in the past but right now I felt nothing for him anymore.
“You want to go rogue? That’s the worst. You know what the rules apply to going rogue. You will be an enemy of the nightwalkers pack and you will be chased away by any other pack, they will see you as a threat” he told me but at this point I didn’t care.
“What is happening here?” a deep, cold voice with an aura of authority asked.
Kevin turned to see who dared question him, with visible shock and fear on his face “Alpha Micheal… What brings you here?” he asked. I realized that was the most feared Alpha, he was rumored to be a demon because of his ruthlessness.
“Last time I checked , this is the territory of the midnight pack” he growled.
“I didn’t realize we had passed the border, we were only chasing this rogue” he said pointing at me obviously trying to divert the fact that he was past the border.
“Who is she?” he asked as he stared at me, his eyes bore into mine as a wave of deep emotion coursed through me.
“Alpha Micheal, she is my mate who just rejected our mate bond after a little argument” he said emphasizing on the ’little’.
“Young lady, how dare you reject your mate,” he asked as I suddenly got cold feet. “You know the rules that apply to those who reject their goddess given mates right”
“I don’t fucking care, I just want to be away from these evil people” I said as tears welled up in my eyes but I to keep the tears in.
“You reek of wolfsbane, what happened? How come you are filled with wolfsbane and there is blood all over you” he asked with a tender voice this time.
“my goddess given fucking mate shot me with an arrow which was poisoned with wolfsbane, shouldn’t be a rule that punishes who uses their power against the weak and powerless?” I asked.
“Why are you rejecting your mate?” he asked.
I looked at Kevin with disdain as the scene of seeing him with another man replayed in my head. “He is not suitable for me” I managed to say.
He turned to beta Kevin. “Have you accepted her rejection?” he asked.
“not yet” he responded.
“Did you shoot her with a poisoned arrow?” he asked Kevin again.
“Yes, I did, but…” he said but was quickly cut of by Alpha Micheal.
“Alpha the rejection immediately” the alpha said to my amazement.
“But…” Kevin tried to say again.
“Do as you are commanded” the alpha told him, "I have never seen Kevin this scared before.
“I, Kevin Miller, beta of the nightwalker pack accept your rejection, I therefore break the bond between us” Kevin said and I felt the connection between us severed and I felt free.
“Good, get up you are coming with me as my mate”
I looked at him in disbelief, my wolf couldn't help but stir in excitement. “Second chance mate” Lyla Said to me.
Our gaze deepened as I looked into his gray eyes. I used to hear stories about the brutal and ruthless Alpha Micheal.
“Didn't you hear me?” He asked louder, causing me to jolt out of my thoughts.
I didn't know what to do, should I go with him? Should I reject him?
My heart pounded in my chest as I faced the ruthless Alpha. His eyes, cold and calculating, bore into mine as he demanded I go with him as his mate. With no escape in sight, I had to make a decision that could change the course of my life forever.
Lana’s POVI stood by my window, scheming and calculating in me head, then I noticed Michael but he soon disappeared into the back seat of his car like some mysterious god off to wage another war. His driver, Mark, rounded the vehicle quickly and slid into the front seat. Seconds later, the engine purred to life, and the car eased out of the estate gates.Good.He was gone. And not for just a few hours.A few days.I turned to my girls, they were both leaning on the balcony railing with me, sipping coffee like this was just another morning. But I could see it in their eyes: they were waiting for me to make the first move.“He’ll be gone for three, maybe four days,” I said, swirling my cup, watching the steam rise and fade into the cool morning air. “Council business. His father practically dragged him away.”“And he just left her here?” Asha asked.“Please. Of course he did. That stray has him so twisted, he doesn’t even realize what a mistake he’s made bringing her into this house.”
Lana’s POVThe hallway felt colder than usual.Or maybe it was because I saw him.Michael.I froze the moment I turned the corner and spotted him walking toward me... his usual unreadable face, his eyes dark with that infernal Alpha calm that masked the monster underneath. My hand unconsciously moved to my neck. The bruises had faded thanks to the healer, but the memory hadn’t.The memory of his hand wrapped around my throat, the fear, the humiliation… the way I couldn’t breathe... not just physically, but emotionally.Michael had never touched me like that before. Not even in anger. But yesterday…Yesterday, he almost killed me.And all because of her.The stray. The fragile-looking wolf he carried into the manor like she was made of gold and starlight. The one he defended publicly. The one who had ruined everything I’d worked so hard to build.Michael’s gaze flicked toward me as he passed.I held my chin high, refusing to meet his eyes. But I couldn’t stop the tremor in my hand.I
Michael’s POVThe council chamber had barely cooled from the earlier tension, but my Beta was already waiting when I stepped onto the lower terrace behind the manor.Ryan stood by the edge of the stone railing with his arms crossed and eyes focused on the forest in the distance. The sky was beginning to darken and streaked with burning amber and violet clouds. A storm was coming. Not just in the sky but through blood.“We’ve got a problem,” he said without turning.“Start talking.”“It’s not just border tests anymore, We’ve lost sixteen wolves in the last six days.” Ryan announced. That snapped me still.
Audrey’s POVThe door clicked shut behind the maid, and I was left alone in the VIP guest suite.I didn’t know what I expected...a some small, spare room in the farthest corner of the manor? A cold bed and silence? Maybe something that screamed “you don’t belong here”?But this…This was excessive. The room was large, it was twice the size of the one I had in Michael’s penthouse. Cream-colored walls, gold-framed art, velvet curtains that swayed slightly from the breeze rolling in through the balcony doors. A chandelier sparkled above my head. There was even a fireplace, though it sat unlit. A fully stocked bookcase lined one wall, and a vanity stood near the walk-in closet like it was meant for royalty.I stepped forward carefully, still favoring my injured ankle. There was no denying it: the room was beautiful. But it didn’t feel like mine.I ran my fingers across the velvet duvet cover, as if the texture could distract me from the heaviness in my chest.Just a guest. The words rang
Chapter 12Michael’s POVShe walked away. She didn’t look back. And even though my wolf howled inside me, clawing to follow her, I let her go.For now.My jaw clenched as I turned to one of the maids lingering nearby, a nervous girl in her twenties who couldn’t decide whether to bow or run.“You,” I snapped. “Escort the girl to the VIP guest wing. Personally. And make sure she has everything she needs.”The maid’s eyes widened. “Y... yes, Alpha.”I turned away without another word. My father’s voice rang out before I could even take a step.“Study. Now.”Daniel didn’t wait for confirmation. He simply turned on his heel and walked down the hall, flanked by his guard. I didn’t follow immediately not because I was disobeying, but because I sensed something.I looked up.Lana.Still standing there in the hallway like a damn statue. Her arms were folded tightly under her chest, and her eyes shimmered with false tears, but the bitterness radiating off her was anything but innocent. The hall
Audrey’s POVHis arms were strong around me, grounding me, protecting me but I still felt exposed.I had barely stepped into the grandeur of the Ironclaw Pack Manor before the sharp voice of a woman I didn’t recognize sliced through the air like a blade.“Who is this trash?”The words hit harder than I expected, and for a moment, I forgot how to breathe.I turned my head slowly in the direction of the voice, unsure what I’d see.She was tall, poised, and dressed like she’d just stepped off the runway. Not a single strand of her chestnut brown hair was out of place, and her deep blue dress clung to her body in a way that screamed power and attention. Her expression, however, was anything but elegant. She was glaring at me like I had spit in her drink.Michael didn’t flinch. He didn’t even blink. But I felt the tension roll through his chest like a silent growl waiting to break free.Without saying a word, he gently set me down, careful of my injured foot. The sudden loss of his warmth
