“I, Audrey Kyle of the nightwalker pack, reject you, Kevin Miller, beta of the nightwalker pack as my mate, I sever the bond binding us together as I accept to go rogue” I declared as he felt it in his chest. I felt a deep pain in my chest, like a knife had been pierced through my heart. I had not only rejected Kevin as my mate but I also accepted to go rogue. He looked at me with anger and hatred, that kind of look would have bothered me in the past but right now I felt nothing for him anymore. “You want to go rogue? That’s the worst. You know what the rules apply to going rogue. You will be an enemy of the nightwalkers pack and you will be chased away by any other pack, they will see you as a threat” he told me but at this point I didn’t care.

Audrey's POV
“What are you standing there for?” I heard my mothers voice ask with an icy tone as I stood stirring the pot of soup absentmindedly.
“The sink is full of dishes that need to be washed and you stand there like an imbecile still stirring dinner that should have been served years ago” she added, obviously exaggerating.
“Oh, I am sorry mom. I was just… Just lost in thoughts” I tried to defend myself.
She rolled her eyes and scoffed. “Oh please… lost in thoughts?” She asked
“I… I…” I stuttered
“What could you possibly think of when I cloth you, I feed you and shelter you ungrateful piece of trash, you are lucky I even let you still stay in my house, stupid orphan” Her harsh words cut through me like a knife, piercing my heart.
She never failed to remind me that she was not my mother at every chance she got “ I didn't mean to get carried away mom” my voice trembled slightly
“Shut up and serve dinner and don’t you dare eat without doing the dishes” she told me and I nodded as I proceeded to set the table.
I heard my tummy growl, I had not eaten anything since morning, it had been from one chore to another.
I began setting the table when Ava, my adopted sister walked up to me with a venomous look and she sat at the table.
“Look who finally decided to grace us with her presence” she spat
“What did I do now, Ava?” I asked
“Oh nothing. Just breathing the same air as the rest of us is enough to ruin my day” she said again as I swallowed my hurt knowing it was pointless to engage in banter as I would be the one to get punished and I ignored Ava as I went to bring in the meal.
I served everyone at the table and they all settled down to eat and I turned to go back to the kitchen.
“Where are you going to Audrey and why didn’t you serve yourself?” my father asked and I turned to see my mother giving me a look which I understood clearly.
“uhhmm… Dad, I just want to do the dishes I had eaten earlier so I am not hungry” I lied as I forced a smile on my hungry face.
“That’s right honey, I saw Audrey having cereal earlier, she eats more than anyone in this house yet she is so skinny” my mother added.
“Well if that is the case then go ahead” my father said in a dismissive tone as he continued with his meal while I turned to leave.
“Hey Audrey, could you please bring me an apple?” Ava asked in a very polite tone, the only time she used that tone was when father was around.
“Audrey is not your maid, she is your elder sister” Father objected
“It's fine dad, I will go get it” I said, knowing I would face their wrath once father was gone.
I went back to the kitchen and grabbed an apple from the fruit bowl, I was tempted to bite it but mother had definitely counted it and I knew what I went through the last time I ate when I wasn’t supposed to, I gave Ava her apple and I headed back to the sink.
As I washed the plates, Beta Kevin, my mate , came in and he looked at me with disdain. “Move!”
I quickly moved to the side as he washed his hands, I took a deep breath and mustered the courage to speak to him as my wolf smelt him and she leapt for joy.
“Hey Kevin” I began hoping to start a conversation.
My gaze shifted from his hot body to his face and he looked at me with irritation. “Why are you even talking to me? Didn’t I warn you never to open your filthy mouth to speak to me again, you stupid bitch”
My heart shattered at his words, I was used to Ava and Mothers cruelty but I could never get used to this. Kevin and I used to be very close and he used to save me from Ava and mother, we used to share secrets and dreams but ever since Kevin and I realized we were mates his attitude towards me changed drastically.
Confusion etched on my face as my eyes began to get teary, “Kevin, I don’t understand we were close before, I don’t understand what happened especially now that the moon goddess has fated us together”
Kevin scoffed, his face contorted with anger as he turned towards me “Hate? No Audrey, I despise you, you disgust me, I can't stand you”
My eyes filled up with tears, hurt and rejection coursing through my veins, “But Kevin we are mates, and being mates should mean something special. We are meant to love and support each other”. I said to him with our faces a few inches apart and I struggled with the urge to kiss him. My wolf craved and wanted him badly and I couldn’t help it anymore as I crashed my lips into his, he tasted like strawberry with a touch of mint.
My excitement was cut short when I felt a push and I landed on the floor and as I tried to get up a slap landed on my face causing me to fall back.
I whimpered in pain as Kevin looked at me with furry in his eyes “How dare you?” He spat, his voice laced with venom.
“I … I … did not mean… ” I stuttered trying to find the right words to explain but before I could finish he grabbed my neck, his fingers tightening around my neck.
I struggled to breathe, panic rising within me as I clawed at his hand desperate for release “Please… I am sorry… I didn't mean to…”
He ignored my pleas, his grip only growing tighter by the second. The world around me began to blur, darkness creeping in.
“Stop… Please…” I gasped, my voice barely audible as I fought against the suffocating pressure on my throat but he didn’t stop, his rage consuming him and with one final plea, I slipped into unconsciousness, the last thing I remembered was the sound of my own voice begging for mercy from the one I loved most.
Lana’s POVI stood by my window, scheming and calculating in me head, then I noticed Michael but he soon disappeared into the back seat of his car like some mysterious god off to wage another war. His driver, Mark, rounded the vehicle quickly and slid into the front seat. Seconds later, the engine purred to life, and the car eased out of the estate gates.Good.He was gone. And not for just a few hours.A few days.I turned to my girls, they were both leaning on the balcony railing with me, sipping coffee like this was just another morning. But I could see it in their eyes: they were waiting for me to make the first move.“He’ll be gone for three, maybe four days,” I said, swirling my cup, watching the steam rise and fade into the cool morning air. “Council business. His father practically dragged him away.”“And he just left her here?” Asha asked.“Please. Of course he did. That stray has him so twisted, he doesn’t even realize what a mistake he’s made bringing her into this house.”
Lana’s POVThe hallway felt colder than usual.Or maybe it was because I saw him.Michael.I froze the moment I turned the corner and spotted him walking toward me... his usual unreadable face, his eyes dark with that infernal Alpha calm that masked the monster underneath. My hand unconsciously moved to my neck. The bruises had faded thanks to the healer, but the memory hadn’t.The memory of his hand wrapped around my throat, the fear, the humiliation… the way I couldn’t breathe... not just physically, but emotionally.Michael had never touched me like that before. Not even in anger. But yesterday…Yesterday, he almost killed me.And all because of her.The stray. The fragile-looking wolf he carried into the manor like she was made of gold and starlight. The one he defended publicly. The one who had ruined everything I’d worked so hard to build.Michael’s gaze flicked toward me as he passed.I held my chin high, refusing to meet his eyes. But I couldn’t stop the tremor in my hand.I
Michael’s POVThe council chamber had barely cooled from the earlier tension, but my Beta was already waiting when I stepped onto the lower terrace behind the manor.Ryan stood by the edge of the stone railing with his arms crossed and eyes focused on the forest in the distance. The sky was beginning to darken and streaked with burning amber and violet clouds. A storm was coming. Not just in the sky but through blood.“We’ve got a problem,” he said without turning.“Start talking.”“It’s not just border tests anymore, We’ve lost sixteen wolves in the last six days.” Ryan announced. That snapped me still.
Audrey’s POVThe door clicked shut behind the maid, and I was left alone in the VIP guest suite.I didn’t know what I expected...a some small, spare room in the farthest corner of the manor? A cold bed and silence? Maybe something that screamed “you don’t belong here”?But this…This was excessive. The room was large, it was twice the size of the one I had in Michael’s penthouse. Cream-colored walls, gold-framed art, velvet curtains that swayed slightly from the breeze rolling in through the balcony doors. A chandelier sparkled above my head. There was even a fireplace, though it sat unlit. A fully stocked bookcase lined one wall, and a vanity stood near the walk-in closet like it was meant for royalty.I stepped forward carefully, still favoring my injured ankle. There was no denying it: the room was beautiful. But it didn’t feel like mine.I ran my fingers across the velvet duvet cover, as if the texture could distract me from the heaviness in my chest.Just a guest. The words rang
Chapter 12Michael’s POVShe walked away. She didn’t look back. And even though my wolf howled inside me, clawing to follow her, I let her go.For now.My jaw clenched as I turned to one of the maids lingering nearby, a nervous girl in her twenties who couldn’t decide whether to bow or run.“You,” I snapped. “Escort the girl to the VIP guest wing. Personally. And make sure she has everything she needs.”The maid’s eyes widened. “Y... yes, Alpha.”I turned away without another word. My father’s voice rang out before I could even take a step.“Study. Now.”Daniel didn’t wait for confirmation. He simply turned on his heel and walked down the hall, flanked by his guard. I didn’t follow immediately not because I was disobeying, but because I sensed something.I looked up.Lana.Still standing there in the hallway like a damn statue. Her arms were folded tightly under her chest, and her eyes shimmered with false tears, but the bitterness radiating off her was anything but innocent. The hall
Audrey’s POVHis arms were strong around me, grounding me, protecting me but I still felt exposed.I had barely stepped into the grandeur of the Ironclaw Pack Manor before the sharp voice of a woman I didn’t recognize sliced through the air like a blade.“Who is this trash?”The words hit harder than I expected, and for a moment, I forgot how to breathe.I turned my head slowly in the direction of the voice, unsure what I’d see.She was tall, poised, and dressed like she’d just stepped off the runway. Not a single strand of her chestnut brown hair was out of place, and her deep blue dress clung to her body in a way that screamed power and attention. Her expression, however, was anything but elegant. She was glaring at me like I had spit in her drink.Michael didn’t flinch. He didn’t even blink. But I felt the tension roll through his chest like a silent growl waiting to break free.Without saying a word, he gently set me down, careful of my injured foot. The sudden loss of his warmth
