FAZER LOGINReed left with his security what feels like an hour ago. Curly had brought back a bottle of the finest Scotch, and we both managed to throw back a few glasses with awkward silence. Between him having to threaten off two men who were looking for a good time and a man who pretended to trip right into me planting his face on my chest. I’m certain his tongue didn’t trip too.
While the party may seem elaborate I’m not quite in the mood. I look at Curly with my glass up in the air, he pours me another dram and I stand up slamming it back. I begin to walk towards the front of the entrance in hopes of getting some fresh air and cool off away from all the noise. Curly stands up quickly “Miss—- “Curly a lady has to use the powder room…in private.” I add. He nods once gesturing where it is and as I walk in that direction I decide to slip his security detail for that fresh air and solitude. As I step outside and walk to the banister, the crisp smell of lake water hits me and I remember that it is the peak of Fall and it is bitter cold on the water. I can see my breath fogging the air. I look over each side and see heaters placed for comfort strategically around the rails for those like myself looking to escape. Minutes go by and goosebumps are flooding my skin. Suddenly I feel a hand on my back waist side. Startled, I turn to find a man smiling at me. “No worries, Miss but you look to be a bit cold “ he takes off his jacket and wraps it around me. It’s warm and comforting but smells heavily of cigars and whorish perfume. “Thank you” I mutter shyly regretting the relief I feel. He just smiles at me and leans over the same banister I am at while twirling his thumbs together. We stand there in silence for a moment or two. “Ian, we were wondering where you had gone off too.” A group of three more men approach. “Sorry guys I seem to have gotten lost in the party” Ian chuckles with eyes turning devilish. I begin to feel the hair stand on the back of my neck like danger is eminent. The tallest of them men scans me over like the rest of them and quirks his head to the side “well look what we have here” and then I recognize him as the man who fell with his tongue out. Disgusting. He rubs his hand across my shoulder, Ian is smiling and the other guys are looking like they’re waiting. I begin to take off the jacket, and Ian grabs my wrist. “Now where do you think you’re running off to.” The tallest guy “miss were here for the full spectrum of the party, how about you come below deck and show us what a good time pays for” I struggle to get my wrist freed and the guys start to crowd in on me. The tallest guy picks me up by my legs and sits me on the railing where there is nothing but the lake at my backside splashing up to remind me how bitterly cold it is. “Stop! Let me go, I don’t—-“ My words are cut short before I can try to claim how I don’t work here. The men are now dangling me off the side of the boat and I feel myself let out a skeemish scream. They slam me over to my belly and are now spreading my legs wide as they will go. I yell out again but I fear nobody can hear me over the sound of water being carved up by the boat. I have to get free. I can feel hands covering my legs and buckles loosening. Suddenly I scream out as I feel the sting of leather smacking across my backside again, and again and again. I scream out for help as best I can while trying to keep my face from smacking the side of the boat. All I can taste is lake water splashing up to my mouth as I struggle to keep my legs from being overpowered. They will pay for this. “Look at this guys we have ourselves a woman who likes to play hard to get. Don’t worry sweet heart well try to take it easy on you if you behave for us”. The leather slaps against my ass again. This time rough and I yelp out a shrieking plea. I can feel fingers jamming inside my center roughly and it hurts like hell as they repeatedly hit a wall. I can taste blood in my mouth from biting my cheek so hard against the pain. I won’t give them the satisfaction of any noise. I continue trying to kick to no avail. “Do we have a maiden on our hands” Ian claims with peak interest. I scream out for curly hoping he’s noticed my absence and begin to try and kick my legs free while dangling on top of my stomach. The men are laughing and I can feel their hands pinning me down. I know what their intentions are but I’ll be damned if I let them use me and take my secret with them. This is not how I planned to lose my virginity and I’d rather go over board in this water and freeze to death than spend another minute being used by men. Luckily I was one of the top state swimmers. And just like that I jab heel into what feels like a throat. Then a husky voice screams out- “Get your hands off of her, Boss we got her!!” But then my other leg is let go and just like that my face is crashing into what feels like a thousand needles. And I can feel the bitter wet cold lake engulfing me.I slam my shoulder into the door and the frame gives with a crack. Zach barely has time to stand before I’m on him. My hand fists in his shirt and I drive him back against the wall hard enough that the drywall dents. “Where the fuck is she?” The words come out low and ragged. He shoves me off and swings. The punch lands solid on my jaw and pain blooms bright and hot. I answer with a fist to his gut and he folds. I grab the back of his head and drive my knee up into his face. Blood sprays across the floor. He stumbles back, gasping, but he’s not done. He lunges and we crash into the coffee table. Wood splinters beneath us. I end up on top, forearm crushing down on his throat. “She’s not yours, Reed,” he chokes out. My face is inches from his. “She was never yours to begin with.” He claws at my arm, eyes wide. “She just needed space.” I press harder. “Space from me? After what we built?” My voice drops to something dark and quiet. “She’s mine, Zach. Mine to break.
Emily’s POV I pull off at the next exit, the glowing sign of a hotel catching my eye. I deserve something decent tonight. The lobby is quiet, the lighting warm. I check in without much conversation and take the key card for room 223. Upstairs, the room smells clean, like fresh linens and faint citrus. I drop my bag, kick off my shoes, and head straight for the bathroom. The shower is glass and marble, the water pressure strong... thank god. I turn it on hot and step under the spray. My mind drifts back to Reed though as if my body won’t let me forget the pleasure of him in the shower. The way he pressed me against the tile that night, water running down both our bodies. His hands gripping my hips, his mouth hot against my neck. I turn the dial hotter, letting the heat bite into my skin the same way his touch did. My breath catches. I stay there longer than I need to, letting the memory wash over me. When I finally get out, I wrap myself in one of the thick white towels and tip
I wake up to a dull headache at the forefront of my face. I roll over and embrace the warm sheets, then suddenly feel the urgent need to pee. My bare feet hit the cold tile and I realize they’re gritty and dirty from dancing the night before. Part of me can’t believe I danced for a bunch of men at a club. Another part of me feels a chip on my shoulder for finally doing something reckless and not feeling guilty about it. I make my way to the kitchen and reach for my phone. The screen lights up. My stomach drops. “Oh my god, did I really post that?” I tap the photo. There I am in that tight black dress, long dark hair falling over one shoulder, pale skin glowing under the neon lights, Zach smiling beside me like a proud idiot. I look good. Really good. Scrolling through the comments, I see the usual questions. “Where have you been? Has the bride made a return? Who’s the new beau?” One friend wrote, “Is that Zach from high school? Didn’t realize you guys were still friends.” Another
Emily’s POV I step up to the bouncers with Zach at my side. The bigger one shakes his head. “No can do buddy we’re at capacity.” Zach tries to charm him. “Come on, man, I just want to give my girl a good time.” He winks at me. The bouncer looks me over and smirks. “That’s great, dude, but the only people I have room for tonight are the ones working.” A shiver runs down my spine as the alcohol hits harder. I lift my chin. “Who says I won’t work?” The house mom appears beside us in full drag, glitter catching the lights, heels clicking. “Oh honey, if you want to work I can give you a spot. That dress, those heels, that shade of lipstick? The guys will be eating you alive. Trust me.” I let out a sheepish giggle, the sound bubbling up before I can stop it. Zach groans beside me. “Well by all means, doll me up and get me on this dance floor,” I say, the defiance already burning through the nerves. They wave us through. Zach tries to grab my arm. “Hey Emily—” bu
Emily’s POV I pause and look at myself in the mirror, finally seeing myself for just me. The deep red lipstick is my favorite. The bold eyes make me feel like I am someone to be treasured and not someone to be looked over. As I admire the black dress that clings to my waist, I also take a moment to gaze over my tattoo. A wolf singing to the moon outlined across my forearm. The only reason I got this tattoo was not just to be a defiant bride, but because the moon reminded me of my mother. It was in honor to her, to be her little wolf, which is what she used to call me. While my mother may have disappeared into the night, this tattoo serves as a reminder to remember her and honor her. She may not have had her mother physically by her side on her wedding day, but she had her memory. My father, as much as I loved him, was not pleased with the tattoo, knowing what it meant. He had a lot of disdain for my mother for some reason I never understood. My future in-laws hated anything that was
Reed POV I check my phone again. Fifteen calls. Fifteen. Zach’s never ignored me this long.I pace the length of my private office, the walls closing in while my mind runs through every scenario where Emily could be in danger right now.My fist tightens around the phone. If he doesn’t pick up, I’m driving straight to his place and dragging him out by the collar.I type the text with my thumb, each word sharp.Zach, if you don’t pick up your goddamn phone, I will be there sooner than you can call me back. The message sends. I stare at the screen, willing it to light up.When it finally rings, I answer before the first tone finishes.“Where the hell have you been?”Zach’s voice comes through loud, music and voices swelling in the background like he’s at a bar or a club.“Sorry, man. Needed a day off. Been out blowing off some steam.”The casual tone only makes my blood run hotter.“A day off? While Emily’s out there God knows where? Sober the fuck up and do your job. I need a location.
