Elena stepped into the living room, and for a moment, the silence felt unnatural, heavy, abandoned, like no one had lived in the house for years. Dust clung to the air, and a foul stench hit her so sharply she covered her nose. It smelled like something had died inside, maybe a chicken, maybe worse.

“Papa?” she called out, her voice echoing through the hollow space.

No answer.

A knot tightened in her stomach. She called again, louder this time, and hurried toward the staircase. Her footsteps were quick, frantic, her heartbeat crashing in her ears.

Halfway up the stairs, she froze.

A single wooden stool sat beside the railing. On it lay a folded piece of paper, placed too neatly to be an accident. Her chest tightened as she reached for it. Her fingers trembled.

She opened the note. The words blurred as she read, her eyes refusing to believe, her mind rejecting every sentence. This couldn’t be real. It had to be a mistake. A trick. A nightmare.

“No… this can’t be,” she whispered.

  • SILENT BETWEEN TWO HEARTS   CHAPTER HUNDRED AND TWENTY SIX: The countdown had begun.

The countdown had begun.Across La Rivera, everything seemed to pulse with a quiet, excited urgency. Each sunrise felt like a page being torn from a calendar, bringing Elena and Harry closer to the day everyone had been waiting for. The wedding was no longer an idea, no longer a promise whispered between them in vulnerable moments. It was now a date circled in bold on every planner, etched into the hearts of everyone who believed in their story.Seven days. That was all that remained. From the grand entrance of La Rivera to the farthest corner of the gardens, preparations were everywhere. Florists walked briskly with armfuls of white and blush roses. Decorators adjusted drapes and lights. Designers held up sketches, comparing shades of ivory and gold. Even the artists and curators who had made La Rivera what it was had become part of the celebration, weaving creativity into every detail. It felt like the whole world had leaned in, waiting.Elena stood on the balcony of her office, loo

  • SILENT BETWEEN TWO HEARTS   CHAPTER HUNDRED AND TWENTY-FIVE: When Courage Becomes Fire

The city woke beneath a sky heavy with clouds, as though it sensed the tension gripping La Rivera. Elena stood in her office long before dawn, her phone pressed to her ear, listening as one of her investigators spoke in a low, steady voice.“Victor Hale isn’t just an investor,” the man said. “He’s a corporate raider. He buys struggling or vulnerable businesses, destabilizes leadership, then forces a takeover. But this time… he crossed a line.”Elena closed her eyes. “Because he made it personal.”“Yes.”Harry entered quietly and watched her face harden. When she hung up, he knew.“He’s coming,” Harry said.Elena nodded. “But now we know how.”By mid-morning, Victor Hale’s name was everywhere. Elena had authorized the release of key information legal, financial, and historical, revealing his pattern of intimidation and coercion. Journalists began calling. Investors started asking questions.Victor had wanted silence.Elena gave him exposure. But Victor responded with force.La Rivera’s

  • SILENT BETWEEN TWO HEARTS   CHAPTER HUNDRED AND TWENTY- FOUR: Lines in the Dark

The city had never felt so close.Every passing car outside their new apartment made Harry glance toward the window. Every elevator chime made Naomi pause mid-sentence. Even La Rivera, once a sanctuary, now carried an undercurrent of tension that no amount of lighting or music could hide.Whoever was playing this game wasn’t reckless. They were patient. And they were smart.Elena sat at the dining table with three laptops open, security feeds running on all of them. Her fingers moved quickly, scrolling through timestamps, cross-checking faces, building patterns.Harry watched her from across the room. “You haven’t slept.”“I will,” she said without looking up. “After I find something.”Naomi stepped closer. “You already have.”Elena glanced up. “What do you mean?”Naomi tapped one of the screens. “That guy from the lobby. He wasn’t just watching me. He kept checking his phone… like he was being guided.”Elena leaned in. “You noticed that?”Naomi nodded. “He was waiting for instruction

  • SILENT BETWEEN TWO HEARTS   CHAPTER HUNDRED AND TWENTY - THREE: The Day Love Refused to Be Silent

The morning began quietly, too quietly.Elena woke to the distant hum of traffic instead of Naomi’s laughter or the clatter of staff preparing La Rivera for another day of planning. Harry was already awake beside her, staring at the ceiling, deep in thought.“You feel it too?” she whispered. He nodded. “Like something’s holding its breath.”They dressed in silence, sharing glances that carried more than words ever could. In recent days, the threats, the locket, the messages, all of it had wrapped around their lives like an invisible wire, tightening slowly.Yet today was supposed to be beautiful.A public announcement.A press moment. The first official step toward their wedding. They couldn’t cancel it now. Doing so would give whoever was watching exactly what they wanted.Fear.By noon, La Rivera was alive with energy. Cameras lined the entrance. Journalists murmured. Guests in tailored suits and elegant dresses filled the marble lobby. Naomi stood beside Elena in a soft blue dress,

  • SILENT BETWEEN TWO HEARTS   CHAPTER HUNDRED AND TWENTY - TWO: When The Past Knocks

The city woke slowly, as though reluctant to disturb the fragile peace that had settled over La Rivera after weeks of turmoil. But Elena was already awake, sitting at the edge of the bed, staring at the pale blue light creeping through the curtains. Sleep had come in fragments, broken by memories, by worry, by the weight of everything she was carrying.Harry stirred behind her. “You didn’t sleep.”“I did,” she lied softly. “Just not well.”He reached for her hand. “It’s the photo, isn’t it?”Elena nodded. “Whoever took it knew exactly where we’d be. They didn’t just stumble on us.”Harry sat up. “Which means someone close....”“Or someone patient,” Elena finished. “Someone who’s been waiting.”Downstairs, Naomi was already in the kitchen, sipping tea and scrolling through wedding designs on her tablet. She looked up when they entered.“You two look like you’ve been up all night.”Harry smiled weakly. “We were just… planning.”Elena watched Naomi carefully. She was lighter now, hopeful

  • SILENT BETWEEN TWO HEARTS   HUNDRED AND TWENTY-ONE: Shadows Behind the Celebration

The first thing Elena noticed was the silence. Not the peaceful kind, the kind that wrapped around La Rivera at dawn like a lullaby, but the hollow kind, the kind that felt like something was missing. It lingered in the hallways even as staff arrived, even as the early morning sunlight spilled across the marble floors. It was the kind of silence that waited.Elena stood on the mezzanine, watching as preparations for the wedding exhibition showcase were being set up below, white silk draped from the railings. Floral arrangements were carried in with gentle care. Photographers tested lighting angles. To the outside world, it all looked perfect, joyful, hopeful, alive. But Elena had learned that beauty often hid danger.Harry joined her quietly. “You’re thinking again.”She smiled faintly. “You say that like it’s a bad thing.”“I say it like it means you’ve sensed something.”He knew her too well now.She leaned on the railing. “Do you ever feel like things calm down right before someth
