LOGINSlowly, Addie opened her eyes. She felt utterly exhausted, as if she had no strength left at all. Her body felt profoundly weak. She tried to move her hands; she managed to do so, but they barely wanted to budge because her entire body was in deep pain. It felt as though she had been beaten by several people, leaving her body feeling completely battered.
She could do nothing but stare at the ceiling of the room she was in, asking herself in her mind:
Why me?
Tears began to pool in her eyes. She couldn't fathom why she was in this situation, or why her parents had chosen to give her away to pay off their debts.
Didn't they love her? How could they hand her over to a man who knew nothing other than how to make her suffer?
Tears flowed relentlessly down her face. She thought it might be better to die than to have him violate her body every single day.
Wiping away her tears, she stared back up at the ceiling and let out a heavy sigh. She needed to plan her moves carefully. She had to find a way to leave and escape from that man's hands.
Despite her weakened body, she tried to get up. She succeeded, but felt a sharp pain throughout her body.
Once seated, her gaze accidentally drifted to her hands, which bore visible bruises from the rope the man had used to tie her. A wave of self-pity washed over her again. She felt like a helpless child because of what he was doing to her.
A tear fell onto her bare thigh. Looking down, she realized she was still naked, her body clearly showing the marks left by that man. She had no idea who to call or where to seek help—if she asked her parents for assistance, they likely wouldn't help her at all.
She stepped off the bed and slowly walked toward the room's bathroom. Upon entering, she immediately looked for clothes to wear. She spotted a wardrobe, walked over, and opened it.
He really prepared for my abduction.
It was full of clothes—ranging from tops, shorts, and sleepwear to underwear that matched her size perfectly.
She quickly picked an outfit, went over to the shower, and let the water flow over her. She looked up at the falling shower stream, washed her face, then leaned against the wall, allowing the cold water to cascade over her face and entire body.
She felt refreshed after taking a bath, and her mood lightened slightly, though the pain remained whenever she made a wrong move.
After dressing, she combed her hair. She didn't bother doing anything else to groom herself, as she lacked the motivation. She simply combed her hair and left the room.
Stepping outside, she immediately felt a gnawing hunger in her stomach; she wasn't even sure when she had last eaten. She looked around to figure out where to go.
She walked down a long hallway from her room at the end of the corridor, which led to a staircase going down. As she walked, she observed the paintings hanging on the wall, as well as the furniture and decorations along the hallway.
She passed a room and paused in front of it. Just as she was about to open it, she was startled when it suddenly swung open, revealing a man with the face of an angel but the heart of a demon.
She froze in place, unable to move, and simply stared at him. He remained silent, leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed over his chest. A smirking smile appeared on his lips as he stared back at her. Before he could open his mouth to speak, she quickly turned her back and walked away.
She continued down the hallway until she reached the stairs. She hurried down, but as she reached the bottom step, she heard his voice and looked up.
He was standing at the top of the stairs, leaning against the railing, looking at her seriously with an unreadable expression.
"If you're attempting to escape, it's better if you don't even try. You have no idea what else I am capable of—you might just end up getting hurt even more," he said before turning around and walking back upstairs.
She was left standing there, looking up, before she resumed walking.
And who does he think I am? I am not afraid of him. I will make sure I escape from here and put him in prison.
Reaching the bottom, she was greeted by a spacious living room featuring a modern design and full furnishings. She walked toward the right side and found the kitchen. Feeling even hungrier, she immediately opened the refrigerator to see what she could eat. She uttered a quiet thank-you when she found cooked dishes in food containers, which she promptly took out and heated up.
There was also leftover cold rice. In her extreme hunger, she didn't bother reheating it and simply started eating.
She didn't care if food spilled onto the table; she just kept eating. She quickly drank water when she nearly choked.
After finishing her meal, she rubbed her stomach and let out a burp from fullness. She had eaten a great deal.
She decided to inspect the entire house and its exterior to familiarize herself with the layout, making it easier for her to escape later.
She cleaned up her eating area and looked for the exit.
Stepping through the front door, she was greeted by the afternoon sea breeze.
Disheartened, she walked toward the shore and gazed at the seemingly endless ocean. Looking around, she realized how vast the island was. From where she stood, there appeared to be a small forest to her right, which she estimated to be about a kilometer's walk away.
She slumped onto the sand. How could she escape this island? She didn't know how to swim. She looked at the ocean again, certain she would have to swim for kilometers just to reach the nearest island.
She looked up and allowed the wind to brush against her, until she felt tears falling from her eyes once again. How could she escape from this place? Boats and airplanes were surely the only ways to reach it, and besides, she had no idea where in the world this island was located.
Was this truly going to be her life now?
Zake quietly watched the woman slumped on the sand. Even though her back was turned, he knew she was crying because her shoulders were shaking.
This wasn't his original plan, but seeing her had changed its course. He couldn't fully understand why he had confined her on his private island, or why he was staying there despite having so much work waiting at his office.
Something seemed to impel him to stay there with that woman—or better yet, with Adrianne.
A smirk crossed his face at the thought, and then he walked away.
CHAPTER FORTY-THREEShe woke up early that hour, unaware of why, but she immediately got up and stepped off her bed.Stretching, she walked toward her window to check if it was already light outside. It was still dark at that hour, but a sliver of light peeped from the east. She smiled, thinking it would probably be nice to watch the sunrise. She immediately went into the bathroom and washed her face. Afterward, she changed her clothes because what she was wearing was far too thin. Certain that it was still cold outside, she put on a jacket. Once dressed, she went straight downstairs to the kitchen to brew some coffee. The entire house was still quiet at that hour, and she was sure that the people staying in the house with her were still asleep. She stepped outside right after making her coffee. A cold breeze welcomed her, making her close her eyes. It felt wonderful to inhale the fresh morning air. After a moment, she opened her eyes and looked toward the east where the sun was risin
FORTY TWOHE LET OUT a long, deep sigh before approaching where Zake was and poured wine into another glass sitting there.Afterward, he took it and turned toward the window overlooking the sea. It was already night, but the beauty of the sea was still clearly visible due to the full moon's reflection on the water."What's your plan, Zake?" he asked him. Zake didn't answer right away. He didn't know what his next steps would be either, as all his plans had changed. At first, when they burned the sugarcane field, he let it pass. But when they broke into the hacienda while he was away, his anger reached its limit—they hadn't just killed animals, but some of his men as well.He couldn't let that slide anymore because they were actively looking for a fight. So he was ready to give them what they wanted, but what about his deal with Addie? And what about the promises he made to his men—that he would bring justice to their fallen comrades? He set his glass down and buried his face in his ha
He swirled the glass of alcohol in his hand. He didn’t know if he made the right decision by giving in to Addie’s plea—sparing the lives of her parents in exchange for her freedom, keeping her bound to him for the rest of her life. What about the families of his men who were killed at his hacienda? What would they say, especially after he had promised them proper justice for their loved ones?He had sworn to them that an eye for an eye—a life for a life—would be demanded. But how could he fulfill that vow now that he was bound by his promise and had agreed to Addie’s terms? He massaged his temples, a headache threatening to break out from the sheer weight of his thoughts. Problems had been piling up over the past few days, leaving him at a loss as to what to prioritize. He was still turning it over in his head, questioning whether accepting Adrianne’s deal—sparing her parents in exchange for her lifelong service—was truly the right move.He knew all too well how painful it was to lose
FORTYShe miscalculated her balance due to her trembling knees and suddenly collapsed onto the floor. She grimaced from the awkward impact of her fall at that moment.Suddenly, she looked down at her hands—they were truly shaking. She didn’t want to admit or say that she was weak, but given what she felt at that time, she was completely drained of strength. Her body was on the verge of giving out due to the tremors in her muscles. She heard the door close, followed by footsteps. A few moments later, she saw his feet right in front of her, prompting her to lift her head to look at him."What are you doing here?" he asked with an authoritative emphasis, as if she had trespassed on his property at that very moment. She composed herself; despite her weakness, she strived to sit up straight and knelt before him.She had her pride, but her parents' lives were at stake, so she would do whatever it took to ensure they were not lost. She was ready to swallow everything. She was ready to sacrif
THIRTY-NINEShe smiled because, despite taking several shots already, he still hadn't stopped. Having no choice, she simply turned her gaze toward the sea and let him take picture after picture until he grew tired of it.She remained staring at the ocean, watching the sunset, until shortly after, she felt him sit down beside her. She scooted over slightly to make enough room for both of them on top of the rock.Neither she nor he spoke; they both just remained staring at the setting sun."The sunset is beautiful, isn't it?" she heard him ask. She merely smiled in response and nodded. She could feel him staring at her through her peripheral vision, and suddenly he picked up the camera again to take another photo of her. She just let him take photos as long as he wanted. After a few moments, she saw him lower the camera once more and look back out at the sea."Do you know what Zake's plan is for me?" she asked him softly. She knew she shouldn't be asking him that, because even if he kne
THIRTY EIGHTShe woke up feeling utterly exhausted. She could barely move her hands and feet; her entire body throbbed as if she had been severely beaten.Opening her eyes, the white ceiling was the first thing she saw. She let out a yawn, feeling still heavily sleep-deprived—it felt as though she had only just drifted off before waking right back up. She had no idea what time it was, nor did she know what time she and Zake had parted ways last night, or if it even was last night. She tried to stretch, managing to raise her arms, but she could deeply feel the ache in them—likely from exhaustion due to their relentless lovemaking. She couldn't help but recall everything that had transpired between them last night, causing a flush of heat to rise to her cheeks. She hadn't kept count of how many times they did it; he had seemed utterly tireless as he made love to her. They were like newlyweds who acted as if they hadn't seen each other in an eternity, driven by sheer mutual passion. She
