He let go of her heavily after the intense moment between them. He stood up and got dressed, then looked down at her.
He smirked and untied her hands.
His eyes scanned her from head to toe. She wasn't able to cover her naked body, and she saw a glint of desire in his eyes.
"No one will bring you food here. If you want to eat, go get food from the fridge." A corner of his lips curled up before he turned his back on her. She could do nothing but watch him leave the room.
However, before stepping out, he looked back at her once more.
"Don't waste your time—or your energy—trying to escape, because you won't get out of here. Save it for the next time you satisfy me," he said, leaving for good.
Addie stared up at the ceiling and checked in with her body. She felt thoroughly exhausted and bruised all over, as if she had been beaten up.
A tear escaped her eye. Was this going to be her new life? A toy for this man?
She couldn't even muster the strength to wipe her tears away.
Closing her eyes, she let sleep pull her under.
"WHAT ARE your plans for her, Zake?" Mang Kanor asked him. He was out on the terrace at the time, looking out at the sea.
"I don't know yet. But for now, it's best she stays here," he replied emotionlessly, gripping the terrace railing and closing his eyes as a gentle breeze brushed against his face.
"We're leaving now. I'll be back in a week to bring the groceries you need," Mang Kanor said.
He didn't reply, feeling too lazy to answer. He wasn't being rude; he just wasn't in the mood to talk.
Moments later, he heard footsteps receding. Shortly after, he spotted Mang Kanor walking toward the boat by the shore with a few house helpers.
Before long, the boat sped away, leaving the entire island silent. Only the crashing of waves against the shore could be heard, accompanied by a cool breeze.
He opened his eyes as he remembered the woman in the guest room. She hadn't come out to eat yet.
Did she really think he was going to bring her food? He tsked.
He walked toward his own bedroom to crash when he passed by the guest room. He shrugged and started to walk past it, but after a few steps, he froze.
He cursed under his breath because he felt a sudden urge to check on her.
Fuck!
Irritated, he walked up to the door and shoved it open.
He was ready to hurl curses, but he stopped dead in his tracks when he saw her lying on the bed.
He approached her quietly. She was fast asleep. He looked up at her disheveled hair, then down at her face—specifically at her lips, which were swollen from his rough kisses earlier.
Fuck!
He lowered his gaze to her shoulders. She was still completely naked, making all the marks he left fully visible: bites and love marks trailing down her neck, shoulders, and chest. She even had bruises that were beginning to darken.
He felt a wave of anger at himself. It wasn't in his nature to hurt anyone, especially a woman—but damn it! Her father refused to honor their deal. So, instead of marrying her, he changed his mind: she would be his slave.
His eyes returned to her face, where dried tears were visible. Guilt washed over him, but he hadn't been able to control himself earlier—it was as if he hadn't slept with a woman in a decade, acting like a starved lion sighting its prey.
He studied her features closely and couldn't help but admire her beauty—it was striking, even with her hair tangled and unkempt.
As his gaze drifted back down to her bare body, he looked away as heat surged straight to his groin. But it was too late; he could already feel his shorts tightening.
"Shit!" he cursed under his breath. He pulled the blanket up to cover her body and turned to leave, but caught sight of her wrists. They were still reddened from where he had tied her up.
"Shit!" he cursed himself again before rushing out of the room.
CHAPTER FORTY-THREEShe woke up early that hour, unaware of why, but she immediately got up and stepped off her bed.Stretching, she walked toward her window to check if it was already light outside. It was still dark at that hour, but a sliver of light peeped from the east. She smiled, thinking it would probably be nice to watch the sunrise. She immediately went into the bathroom and washed her face. Afterward, she changed her clothes because what she was wearing was far too thin. Certain that it was still cold outside, she put on a jacket. Once dressed, she went straight downstairs to the kitchen to brew some coffee. The entire house was still quiet at that hour, and she was sure that the people staying in the house with her were still asleep. She stepped outside right after making her coffee. A cold breeze welcomed her, making her close her eyes. It felt wonderful to inhale the fresh morning air. After a moment, she opened her eyes and looked toward the east where the sun was risin
FORTY TWOHE LET OUT a long, deep sigh before approaching where Zake was and poured wine into another glass sitting there.Afterward, he took it and turned toward the window overlooking the sea. It was already night, but the beauty of the sea was still clearly visible due to the full moon's reflection on the water."What's your plan, Zake?" he asked him. Zake didn't answer right away. He didn't know what his next steps would be either, as all his plans had changed. At first, when they burned the sugarcane field, he let it pass. But when they broke into the hacienda while he was away, his anger reached its limit—they hadn't just killed animals, but some of his men as well.He couldn't let that slide anymore because they were actively looking for a fight. So he was ready to give them what they wanted, but what about his deal with Addie? And what about the promises he made to his men—that he would bring justice to their fallen comrades? He set his glass down and buried his face in his ha
He swirled the glass of alcohol in his hand. He didn’t know if he made the right decision by giving in to Addie’s plea—sparing the lives of her parents in exchange for her freedom, keeping her bound to him for the rest of her life. What about the families of his men who were killed at his hacienda? What would they say, especially after he had promised them proper justice for their loved ones?He had sworn to them that an eye for an eye—a life for a life—would be demanded. But how could he fulfill that vow now that he was bound by his promise and had agreed to Addie’s terms? He massaged his temples, a headache threatening to break out from the sheer weight of his thoughts. Problems had been piling up over the past few days, leaving him at a loss as to what to prioritize. He was still turning it over in his head, questioning whether accepting Adrianne’s deal—sparing her parents in exchange for her lifelong service—was truly the right move.He knew all too well how painful it was to lose
FORTYShe miscalculated her balance due to her trembling knees and suddenly collapsed onto the floor. She grimaced from the awkward impact of her fall at that moment.Suddenly, she looked down at her hands—they were truly shaking. She didn’t want to admit or say that she was weak, but given what she felt at that time, she was completely drained of strength. Her body was on the verge of giving out due to the tremors in her muscles. She heard the door close, followed by footsteps. A few moments later, she saw his feet right in front of her, prompting her to lift her head to look at him."What are you doing here?" he asked with an authoritative emphasis, as if she had trespassed on his property at that very moment. She composed herself; despite her weakness, she strived to sit up straight and knelt before him.She had her pride, but her parents' lives were at stake, so she would do whatever it took to ensure they were not lost. She was ready to swallow everything. She was ready to sacrif
THIRTY-NINEShe smiled because, despite taking several shots already, he still hadn't stopped. Having no choice, she simply turned her gaze toward the sea and let him take picture after picture until he grew tired of it.She remained staring at the ocean, watching the sunset, until shortly after, she felt him sit down beside her. She scooted over slightly to make enough room for both of them on top of the rock.Neither she nor he spoke; they both just remained staring at the setting sun."The sunset is beautiful, isn't it?" she heard him ask. She merely smiled in response and nodded. She could feel him staring at her through her peripheral vision, and suddenly he picked up the camera again to take another photo of her. She just let him take photos as long as he wanted. After a few moments, she saw him lower the camera once more and look back out at the sea."Do you know what Zake's plan is for me?" she asked him softly. She knew she shouldn't be asking him that, because even if he kne
THIRTY EIGHTShe woke up feeling utterly exhausted. She could barely move her hands and feet; her entire body throbbed as if she had been severely beaten.Opening her eyes, the white ceiling was the first thing she saw. She let out a yawn, feeling still heavily sleep-deprived—it felt as though she had only just drifted off before waking right back up. She had no idea what time it was, nor did she know what time she and Zake had parted ways last night, or if it even was last night. She tried to stretch, managing to raise her arms, but she could deeply feel the ache in them—likely from exhaustion due to their relentless lovemaking. She couldn't help but recall everything that had transpired between them last night, causing a flush of heat to rise to her cheeks. She hadn't kept count of how many times they did it; he had seemed utterly tireless as he made love to her. They were like newlyweds who acted as if they hadn't seen each other in an eternity, driven by sheer mutual passion. She
