Chapter 5

Jake

I turned my head towards the woman standing in front of me. Did she just snap at me? I looked towards Mike who was looking amused at the situation. Of course, a bodyguard-to-be snaps at me and he finds it entertaining. Typical Mike.

" What did you say, Miss Davis?" I turned towards the woman with a frown on my face. She shut her eyes for a second and took a deep breath almost as if she was calming herself. Interesting.

" I meant that you should probably attend to me or tell me to come back later. I don't like people ignoring me, Mr. Owens." She replied calmly this time without breaking her gaze from mine. When I continued staring at her without replying Mike joined in on the conversation.

"We're sorry for ignoring but I assure you,  it wasn't intentional. You can call me Mike, by the way, you'll be seeing more of me if you stick around." He raised his hand for a handshake towards her which she took with a small smile.

" You can call me Elena and I hope he keeps me around too." She inclined her head towards me like I wasn't right there with them. Now, who was being rude?

"When you're done with the introductions would you like to tell me why you decided to apply for this job since it was found out that you're are picky about who you work for?"

"I don't know who told you that but I assure you that I'm the best you could have found for the job Mr

Owens." She replied replacing the smile on her face with a blank face.

" What makes you so sure of that?" I leaned back in my chair keeping a blank face too. Two could play at this game.

" Because I know my potential Mr. Owens." She said firmly giving me a look to disagree with her while Mike just chuckled. Honestly, I don't know why I kept him around. He could be annoying at times.

"Well, Elena I think I like you," Mike said to her and she smiled back.

I glared at him and he just shrugged.

"What? She's interesting and doesn't argue about this Jake if she's as good as she claims then there's nothing to worry about." I sighed and shook my head lightly.

"Guess we would find that out," I replied staring at her with a troubling feeling that this woman had brought a storm into my life with her.

Mike

I chuckled and looked at the woman in front of me, she was a feisty one which I liked in women but that wasn't what drew me to her. It was her eyes, hazel just like my sister's. My sister would have been almost if not at her age by now if only she was alive.

I could picture both of them getting along if only this woman smiled as much as my sister smiled and the fact that her hair was black while sister was blonde but unfortunately my sister had been taken away from me years ago which devastated my father and finally led to his death.

"Well Elena, I think I like you." I smiled at her and she smiled back in response while Jake glared at me. Guess I was on his murder list now I chuckled mentally and shrugged at him.

"What? She's interesting and doesn't argue about this Jake but if she's as good as she claims to be then there's nothing to worry about."

I said in a slightly serious tone and turned my attention back to the woman beside me and studied her. There was something about her that I couldn't lay my finger on a bit I was determined to find out.

Ashley

   -Master.

I've gotten a job at his company as planned and I'm going to try and find about his plan which might be a little difficult because he's a little closed off but I promise to try and earn his trust as soon as possible. I found out he has a friend who is an agent. Orders on what should be done about him would be needed because he's bound to snoop around which might hinder my work and stop me from communicating with you especially.

                                                     -A.

I stop the treadmill and used my face towel to wipe off the sweat running down my face. I got off the treadmill and walked to the table located at the makeshift office in my basement and picked up the envelope I had received that morning.

I wasn't expecting a reply this fast but I guess the master was eager to give me orders as usual. I opened the letter placed in the envelope while taking a drink from the bottle I had put on the table before exercising that morning.

    -A.

Glad the work is progressing. You have my permission to do whatever you have to do to stop any 'unnecessary pest' from hindering your job. I would be expecting good news from you.

                                                       - Master

I folded the paper and put it back in the envelope that was housing it. Leave the master to refer to a human being as ' pest '.

I shook my head and placed the rather short letter in the safe I kept my important documents before I headed out of the basement to get ready for work.

It's been a week since I started working as Jake's - or Should I say, Mr. Owens?  Since we weren't on a first-name basis - personal bodyguard which automatically makes me the head of his security which makes my work easier.

It was no different from my real job as an assassin just that there would be less killing and my boss is different. I still get to give orders which makes this job tolerable despite the hard time Mr. Owens had been giving me, not that I complained. I took it all in stride and stayed unaffected as I always was.

I parked my new car, a silver metallic convertible Mercedes in the private parking lot in Mr. Owens's house. What? Don't be shocked, just because I'm a security guard doesn't mean I couldn't afford a car like that but just so you know, my boss or rather the company gave it to me.

I might just have had a say in what kind of car they would be giving me, another perk of working on the job. Oh! and yes I'm at his house since I'm his bodyguard now I have to be with him almost every time which means I had to be in his more like mansion house before he wakes and leaves after he retires.

I knew I wasn't stressed out because I was used to spending all my time on the job, which was the good side of being on this particular job, never getting tired on the job, or should I say in my case unable to get tired? I opened the main door with my fingerprint and went directly to his room.

He had added my fingerprint to the security system in his home which meant I get to go into his house as I pleased but I think the main reason was so that I acted as his alarm clock every morning.

Every day since I started for him, I woke him up since I was always at his house early which was the annoying part of my job, I mean I didn't sign up to be a babysitter but sadly I couldn't complain even if I wanted to since it would be handy in getting me whatever I needed for me to complete my job.

           " Good morning Mr. Owens."

I knocked on his bedroom door and retreated to the living room to go over his schedule and security details for the day again since he would be taking an hour to get ready for work since he had to exercise too.

He came to the living room an hour later and went straight to get his coffee before turning his attention to me. I had wondered why he didn't have servants waiting on him and he had explained that he liked being on his own and that the workers came once a week. Splendid.

"Good morning, Miss Davis."I nodded and brought out my iPad.

" You would be having a meeting with Mr. Oxford from the Sterling company at eight-thirty at the diners cafe and I already took care of the extra security detail--"

" There might be a problem with that." He cut me off before I finished my sentence and I frowned slightly.

" I don't understand what you mean by that because to me there's no problem with the schedule and security details."

" That wasn't what I meant. I meant I already canceled all my appointment for today with my secretary because we have a change of plans."

"You what?" I exclaimed just as the door opened behind me.
