Mia's POV

"Mia, you should have still looked while walking." Liam's voice was sharp with concern as he helped me to my feet. "You walked right into the path of that car like you were in a trance."

I was in a trance. A trance of fury and heartbreak.

"I wasn't paying attention," I admitted, my hands still shaking from the adrenaline. "I was too angry to think straight."

Liam brushed concrete dust from my jacket, his movements gentle despite his scolding tone. "Angry doesn't get you killed, Mia. That driver wasn't texting or distracted—he accelerated when he saw you."

He's right. Someone deliberately tried to run me down.

"Who would want to hurt me?" I whispered, the reality of it finally sinking in.

"That's what we need to figure out." His eyes scanned the parking garage, alert for any other threats. "Come on, let me drive you home. You're in no condition to be behind the wheel."

Home. But which home? The apartment they know about, or the house where my children are?
