LOGINDescent to the Rosario Islands
POV: Karol Kensington
A loud gunshot cut through the noise of the plane.
Before I could even scream, a big hand grabbed my sweater. Mateo pulled me down to the floor. His huge body covered mine completely. He hid me from the open door to keep me safe.
"Go! Go! Go!" He yelled.
Outside, I heard two more loud pops. Mateo was shooting back. A second later, everyone was inside the plane, and the pilot hit a big red button on the wall. The metal stairs folded up, and the heavy door slammed shut.
The plane did not wait for us to sit. It shot down the runway and flew straight up into the sky.
I lay flat on the floor. My heart was beating so fast I could not breathe. My hands shook badly. Someone had just tried to shoot me.
"Karol." Ciro’s deep voice was right next to my ear. His hands moved all over my arms and back, checking me. "Are you hurt? Did the bullet hit you?"
"No," I gasped. I looked up into his wild, hot eyes. "I am okay."
Ciro let out a heavy breath. He slowly pulled me up from the floor and gently guided me with the help of Mateo to a wide, white leather seat and sat me down. He sat right next to me. Our legs touched. He kept his large hand on my knee, rubbing my skin gently.
"Who was that?" Ciro asked Mateo.
Mateo put his gun back into his belt. "A big bald guy in a dirty jacket. He missed by two inches..."
"I know him," I whispered. My voice shook, but I forced the words out. Both men stopped and looked at me. "I saw him at my family clinic last week. He was looking for my sister. Valeria sent him."
Ciro’s eyes narrowed. He stared at me for a long time. The quiet in the plane felt heavy and scary.
"Your sister went too far," Ciro said softly. His quiet voice was scarier than if he had yelled. "She tried to kill you so you could never tell the truth. That man just ruined his own life."
For the rest of the trip, Ciro did not let go of me.
He kept his hand on my leg. He had a worker bring me hot tea. Every time the plane bumped in the air, he pulled me a little closer to him.
It was very confusing. I was supposed to be his prisoner. I was supposed to hate him. But sitting in this plane, feeling the heat of his big hand, I knew a scary truth. Ciro Restrepo was the only person keeping me alive. He was my enemy, but he was also protecting me. Just being near him made me feel safe.
An hour later, the plane started to go down lower
I leaned over and looked down and gasped
Below us was the Caribbean Sea. The water was bright blue. But there was no city. There were no roads. There were just deep green islands floating in the middle of a huge ocean.
The plane flew in a circle around the island. It was a wild jungle. On the edge of a high, sharp cliff, a huge house was built into the rocks. It was made of dark glass and steel.
It was Villa Altamira.
It was beautiful, but I was scared. We were in the middle of nowhere. There were no bridges to land. It was a giant, lonely castle. I finally understood how trapped I was. If Valeria’s bad men found me here, my own is finished.
The jet landed smoothly on a small runway in the jungle. As we slowed down, the radio clicked on.
"Mr. Restrepo, we have landed," the pilot said. He sounded very worried. "But we have a big problem."
Ciro frowned. "What is it?"
"The weather radar just changed," the pilot said. "A huge storm changed direction. It is coming right for us."
I looked out the window. The blue sky was turning an ugly, dark purple. Thick black clouds rolled over the ocean. The wind was already bending the tall trees.
"How bad is it?" Ciro asked sharply.
"Very bad, sir," the pilot replied. "It will hit in a few hours. The waves will be too big for boats. The wind will be too strong to fly. The island is completely cut off. No one can get in, and no one can get out."
"For how long?" Mateo asked.
"At least four or five days," the pilot said.
The radio clicked off.
I felt a cold chill, for five days; I was going to be locked in that giant glass house with Ciro, all alone, during a violent storm.
But then, Mateo’s cell phone buzzed. It was the only phone that still had a signal before the storm started.
Mateo read the text message. He looked at Ciro with wide, scared eyes.
"Ciro," Mateo whispered. His voice was very tight. "The guards just sent a message from the docks. Ten minutes ago, right before the water got too rough... a small speed boat sneaked onto our beach."
Ciro stood up. His jaw locked tight. "Who is on it?"
"We don't know," Mateo said. He pulled his gun out again. "The guards went to check it, but now they are not answering their radios. Someone is on the island with us."
POV: KarolSomeone in the hallway was pushing the door open. They were very strong.Ciro moved fast. The deep, burning heat in his eyes turned cold. He dropped my hand, grabbed my waist, and pulled me hard behind his back."Stay behind me," he ordered. His voice was firm. The heart monitor on his chest beeped fast and loud. But Ciro did not look scared. He looked ready to kill. He sat up, ignoring his bad knee. He grabbed a heavy metal tray filled with massage oils and tools. The space in the doorway grew wider. A black leather glove pushed the heavy desk away like it was nothing. Then, a man stepped into the room.He wore a dark, wet raincoat and a black mask. Rainwater dripped onto the clean floor. He held a black gun with a long silencer in his right hand.I stopped breathing. The man pointed the gun straight at Ciro’s chest. Before the killer could shoot, Ciro yelled and threw the metal tray with all his might. It hit the man right in the face. Glass bottles broke. Warm oil splash
The First SessionPOV: Karol Kensington"Get behind me!" Ciro yelled in the dark. His strong arm grabbed my hands and my waist. I quickly ran to his back and held my breath; I was scared to death. Then, the light came on. The bright white lights of the medical room flashed back on.I blinked and looked at the door. It wasn't the killer. It was Mateo. He was dragging a heavy steel desk across the hallway floor to block the door."Sorry, boss," Mateo was breathing hard, wiping rain from his face. "The power line was cut. I just put on the generator; I am blocking this wing. No one is getting in."I let out a breath and stepped away from Ciro. The killer was still out there in the storm, but we are locked inside."It is time," I said. My voice was cold and professional. "Get on the table."Ciro did not argue. He wheeled himself to the therapy table and lifted himself up using his strong arms.I grabbed a small black box with wires."What is that?" Ciro asked, watching me closely."A hear
Setting the BoundariesPOV: Karol Kensington"Lock down every single door in this house right now!" Ciro roared."I already did, boss," Mateo said quickly. He wiped the blood off his hand with a white towel. "The storm shutters are down. The heavy steel doors are locked. But the cameras are useless in this heavy rain. We are totally blind outside.""Then we wait for him to try and get in," Ciro ordered. "Put guards at every window. No one sleeps tonight."Mateo nodded and left. The heavy glass doors slid shut behind him, locking with a loud click.I stood in the middle of the room, shaking. My stomach felt sick. A man had tried to shoot me at the airport, now my old work badge is covered in blood. It was a message. He was here, on the island, and he was hunting me."Karol."Ciro’s voice was softer now. He rolled his wheelchair closer to me. I could see the worry hiding behind his dark, angry eyes. He reached out to grab my shaking hands.I stepped back before he could touch me.If I l
Welcome to Villa AltamiraPOV: Karol KensingtonStay in the car, and keep your head down," Mateo ordered. The rain fell so hard I could barely see. The storm had finally hit the island. The wind howled like an angry animal and shook the car.Mateo and three guards jumped out into the cold rain. They pulled out their guns. Some went inside first to make sure the house was safe. They had to find the stranger from the speed boat.Ten minutes passed. Finally, the huge front doors opened. A guard waved for us to come inside.Ciro opened the car door, with the support of his staff, we ran through the rain, up the stone steps and went inside the house. As heavy doors slammed shut behind, The loud noise of the storm instantly went away.I stopped and stared. Villa Altamira was beautiful, but it was scary. The floors were shiny black stone. The ceilings were very high. One whole wall was made of glass. Through the glass, I could see dark, angry waves crashing against the rocks far below. Every

POV: Karol KensingtonMateo’s voice was low in the quiet room. We had hidden in a safe house since the car chase."We have ten minutes. The sun is coming up, and the reporters will be awake soon. We need to leave now."I didn't get enough sleep last night; I was thinking about a lot of things. I stood up and wore a plain black sweater and jeans that Ciro provided for me. I opened the door."I am ready," I said. My voice sounded flat.Mateo checked the hallway and told me to follow him.We walked down the back stairs and out into the cool morning air. The rain had stopped. The armored SUV was waiting in an alley. The engine was already running.I got into the back seat. This time, I was alone. Ciro had left earlier, according to Mateo, to handle somethings.Mateo hit the gas. We drove onto the empty highway.I rested my head against the window. I watched the sun come up over Medellín. The sky turned a pretty blue behind the dark green mountains. It was the most beautiful city in the wo
