The echo of shattering glass had barely faded into the humid, mist-choked air of the hydrotherapy wing before the estate’s automated defense protocols engaged.

Above us,the red laser sights that had danced across the sapphire water vanished as heavy blast shutters began sliding across the ceiling with a low, mechanical groan, sealing us into the pool hall.

Jaxson kept his arm locked around my waist, his wet body anchored between me and the open room as he guided me toward the submerged steps. The water churned around our chests, hot and thick with steam, but the air above the surface had turned instantly freezing.

"Stay low," Jaxson growled into my ear, his voice a flat, rasp. Every muscle in his upper body was taut as iron, ignoring the blinding throb in his right knee as he took me out of the pool onto the wet slate tiles.

Before I could wring the water from my hair or grab a towel from the rack, the heavy steel access doors at the far end of the pool deck hissed open.

A man stepped into the steam, moving in silent precision. He wore a matte-black tactical uniform, and an earpiece pulsing with a faint blue indicator light.

It was Radek Jaxson’s head of private security and a former elite operative. His face was a mask of cold, unyielding stone, devoid of any panic or hesitation. He didn't blink at the sight of Jaxson and me dripping wet.

"Sir. Doctor," Radek said, his tone razor-sharp and completely clinical. "The upper glass gallery is secure. The breach wasn't a ground insertion by Bronisław’s men."

Jaxson grabbed a dark robe from the rack and threw it over his shoulders, his jaw clenched so tight the bone stood out pale against his skin

"Then what smashed the glass, Radek?"

"An airborne asset," Radek replied, stepping forward and opening a hard-shell tactical briefcase he carried in his left hand. "An unidentified military

grade quadcopter drone pierced our outer radar fence three minutes ago.

It was flying low through the tree canopy to avoid our microwave sensors during your hydrotherapy session."

I wrapped a heavy towel around myself, shivering as the damp heat of the pool evaporated into the chilling room. "A drone? In the middle of a mountain blizzard?"

"It’s not a commercial model, Doctor," Radek said, turning the briefcase toward us. Inside lay the smoking, mangled remains of a carbon fiber drone, its rotors smashed and its internal wiring exposed. "This is a custom built stealth unit equipped with thermal-imaging sensors, carbon-coated silent blades, and an independent satellite uplink."

Radek had pulled the machine out of the sky with terrifying speed. The moment his automated perimeter defense flagged the radar anomaly, he had engaged a directed EMP burst from the roof tower, frying the drone’s flight controller and sending it crashing through the glass gallery roof right above our heads.

"I’ve initiated a level-four lockdown across the entire property," Radek continued, his fingers tapping rapidly on a wrist-mounted terminal. "The perimeter fences are electrified, all vehicular gates are deadlocked, and the internal security firewall has been hardened. Nothing enters or leaves this mountain without my direct biometric clearance."

Jaxson stepped closer to the briefcase, leaning heavily on his leg as he stared down at the ruined machine. "Who does the hardware belong to? Arthur? Or Bronisław?"

"That’s where the anomaly lies, sir," Radek said, using a small diagnostic probe to pry open the drone's primary sensor housing. "The flight logs were set to self-delete upon impact, but I managed to isolate the optical payload before the logic board fried completely."

Radek pulled a specialized memory module from the housing and slotted it into his portable monitor. The screen flickered to life, rendering a series of ultra-high-definition image files captured just seconds before the drone was brought down.

My breath caught in my throat. I stepped up beside Jaxson, my eyes widening in utter horror.

The images on the screen weren't generic aerial shots of the estate grounds or architectural schematics of the fortress.

The drone had been hovering less than fifteen feet outside the hydrotherapy gallery’s reinforced glass wall, its ultra-wide aperture lens focused with terrifying clarity directly through the steam.

The high-magnification lens had captured every single second of our therapy session.

There was a shot of me stepping into the warm water between Jaxson’s legs... an ultra-sharp close-up of my hands submerged beneath the surface, pressing against his bare thigh... and a devastatingly clear image of the moment Jaxson had pulled me against his broad, bare chest, his face inches from mine as he stared down at my lips.

Through the steam and thermal distortion, the images looked extraordinarily compromising. It didn't look like a physician performing manual joint manipulation on a crippled athlete. It looked like an intimate, slow-burning affair between a compromised doctor and her wealthy man, a single frame capable of destroying my professional license, invalidating his corporate defense, and cementing the narrative that I was acting as a compromised actor in his inner circle.

"Look at the optical rig, sir," Radek said, his voice dropping into a somber, deadly register as he zoomed in on the lens. "This isn't standard surveillance hardware. It’s a specialized seventy-millimeter cinematic lens with an integrated encrypted transmitter. The data stream wasn't storing locally. It was broadcasting live to a remote relay station."

Jaxson’s face turned cold, he stared at the screen, his chest rising and falling in heavy, silent breaths.

"Where was the signal relaying, Radek?" Jaxson asked, his tone so low it was almost a whisper.

Radek pulled up the telemetry map, tracing the encrypted signal's ping back through the mountain pass.

"The transmission didn't go to Warsaw, and it didn't go to Kraków," Radek revealed, pointing to a flashing red dot situated barely two miles down the mountain road, parked just outside the estate's lower gate.

"The receiver is sitting in a mobile media broadcast van. The raw footage of you two in the pool was uploaded to the national press network thirty seconds ago."

I gasped, my hand flying to my mouth as scale of the trap slammed into me. "They're framing this as a scandal... they're using our physical therapy to destroy our credibility before the board hearing tomorrow”

Jaxson didn't answer right away. He reached out and touched the screen, his thumb tracing the digital outline of my face where I was pressed against his chest.

Slowly, he turned his head to look at me. The hostility was gone, replaced by a dark, resolve that sent a shiver straight down my spine.

"Radek," Jaxson commanded softly, his eyes never leaving mine. "Shut down the entire public network grid on this mountain. Cut the power lines. Then bring me my orthopedic leg brace and my rifle."

Radek didn't hesitate. "And the press van down at the gate, sir?"

Jaxson’s said, his voice slicing through the cold air like a razor: "We're going down there to delete the footage ourselves."

The floorboards beneath us vibrated violently.Radek instantly drew his sidearm, stepping in front of us, his radio bursting into a storm of static and frantic shouts."Boss, they didn't just cut the power!" a guard’s voice screamed through the speaker over the heavy chatter of automatic gunfire. "The black vans smashed through the lower security barrier, they are on the driveway"The radio transmission cut into high-pitched static.Out in the snow-covered courtyard, right outside the library windows, a blinding spotlight ignited, pinning us in its beam.Outside, the ragged chatter of automatic gunfire echoed sharply against the frozen pine trees of the mountain pass. The Vance tactical units had breached the lower gates. They were inside the perimeter.Yet, inside the dim, smoke-scented air of the library, the loudest sound in the world was the heavy, rhythmic thrum of my own pulse. He bought my contract to keep me safe. The words spun through my mind like a centrifuge, tearing dow

My heart trooped as I waited for him talk"She didn't need to connect to your uncle's servers to send him the files," Radek said softly. "This chip has been broadcasting her exact real-time location, every keystroke she’s typed, and every diagnostic scan she’s performed directly to Bronisław’s private desk in Kraków... since the day she packed her bags to come here."The tiny black square on the exposed motherboard seemed to pulse under the glare of Radek’s penlight.A hardware bug. The emergency red strobe light spun across the dark mahogany shelves of the library, casting long, bleeding shadows over the floorboards. Out in the driveway, the muffled roar of diesel engines signaled the arrival of the Vance tactical convoy, but in my chest, the real violence was happening in complete silence. They were going to erase him.Bronisław was taking twenty-four years of Jaxson Cole’s sweat, fractured bones, and relentless obsession, and sweeping it into a corporate dustbin on live television. And he was doing it using my hand to hold the broom."Sienna," Jaxson’s voice came out low, a grounded rumble near my ear. His fingers remained braced on my shoulders, his grip so firm it kept my knees from buckling under the sheer weight of the lie. "Look at the screen. What’s the protocol?""He’s lying to the league board," I said. The trembling in my vocal cords vanished, replaced by an icy, dangerous calm that surprised even me. My blood didn't run hot; it turned to slush. "He’s

The taste of Jaxson Cole was still on my lips,The sound didn’t come from the heavy timber doors or the wind howling against the triple-paned glass facing the Tatra slopes. It came from my tablet, resting face-down on the leather ottoman beside the hearth. A sharp, continuous ping the high-priority frequency reserved exclusively for the Vance Sports Legacy board.I pulled back, my breath hitching in my throat. Jaxson’s hands were still resting on my waist, his thumbs pressing firmly through the soft cotton of my sweater. For three seconds, his steel-blue eyes held mine, dark with a heavy, unfiltered hunger that had nothing to do with football and everything to do with the way my fingers had just been tangled in his blonde hair."Don't," he muttered, his voice a low, and vibrated against my collarbone. "Let it ring, Sienna.""It’s the executive line," I whispered, though my voice sounded paper-thin. My skin felt flushed, every nerve ending firing from the sudden warmth of his body pr

We had taken refuge in the grand estate library. Floor-to-ceiling mahogany shelves lined with ancient leather-bound volumes enclosed the room, creating an intimate, insulated sanctuary against the blizzard raging beyond the stained-glass windows. On the central table, my laptop sat open beside Jaxson’s encrypted tablet, displaying real-time monitoring streams of Bronisław’s network activity and the fluctuating pre-market stock tickers. Jaxson stood near the hearth, staring down into the flickering amber embers. He had discarded his formal suit jacket and tie, leaving his white dress shirt unbuttoned at the collar, the sleeves rolled up to his forearms. Even with the physical exhaustion carved into his sharp features and the dull, lingering ache in his patellar tendon, his posture radiated an immovable, magnetic power. I sat on the edge of the leather sofa, watching him. My body was physically drained from the terror of the past few hours the setup, the threat of arrest, and the so

I stood paralyzed in the narrow stone corridor, my fingers clutching the metallic casing of the encrypted micro-drive so tightly my knuckles throbbed white. Beyond the heavy oak mechanism that had just sealed shut, the muted shouts of federal marshals echoed down the primary hallway, their heavy tactical boots rattling the floorboards. Jaxson was out there right now, holding off the agents, putting his body, his reputation, and his remaining freedom on the line to buy me time. My chest heaved in shallow, ragged gaps as a sudden, suffocating wave of realization crashed over my entire existence. Bronisław. My own uncle. The man who had hugged me at my father’s bedside, the man who had solemnly promised to protect our family’s legacy after my father fell ill—he was the puppet master who had orchestrating my ruin from the very beginning. Every contract, every debt notice, every tearful phone call from my relatives begging me to sign away my freedom to Jaxson Cole had been a calculat
