I stood paralyzed in the narrow stone corridor, my fingers clutching the metallic casing of the encrypted micro-drive so tightly my knuckles throbbed white. Beyond the heavy oak mechanism that had just sealed shut, the muted shouts of federal marshals echoed down the primary hallway, their heavy tactical boots rattling the floorboards. Jaxson was out there right now, holding off the agents, putting his body, his reputation, and his remaining freedom on the line to buy me time.

My chest heaved in shallow, ragged gaps as a sudden, suffocating wave of realization crashed over my entire existence.

Bronisław. My own uncle.

The man who had hugged me at my father’s bedside, the man who had solemnly promised to protect our family’s legacy after my father fell ill—he was the puppet master who had orchestrating my ruin from the very beginning. Every contract, every debt notice, every tearful phone call from my relatives begging me to sign away my freedom to Jaxson Cole had been a calculated, vicious lie. They hadn't sent me to Zakopane to pay off a debt; they had weaponized me. They had used my medical license, my integrity, and my devotion to my father as a Trojan horse to bring down an empire and throw me into a federal prison cell the moment I served my purpose.

The sheer, staggering magnitude of the betrayal hit me like a physical blow to the chest.

My knees buckled. I collapsed back against the cold, damp stone of the hidden passage, sliding down until my hips hit the floor. A sharp, choked sob escaped my lips, tearing through the quiet passage. I covered my face with my free hand, my entire body shaking uncontrollably as hot, bitter tears flooded past my eyelids.

For months, I had carried the excruciating weight of feeling like a captive, a pawn forced to compromise my morals to save my family. I had endured Jaxson’s harsh hostility, his icy demands, and his relentless suspicion, believing I was paying for my father's mistakes. And all along, the man I believed to be my jailer was the only one who had paid off the debts, bought out my contract, and stood between me and total destruction. My own blood had sold me, and a stranger had bought my freedom.

The pain was raw, toxic, and utterly overwhelming, slicing through every defense mechanism I had built since arriving in Poland. I curled inward on the stone floor, the tears burning against my cheeks, my breath catching in violent, hitching gasps.

A sudden, sharp click resonated through the stone wall above me.

The hidden oak panel swung open once more.

A tall figure stepped through the threshold, shutting the mechanism behind him with a heavy, muted thud. The shouting in the main hallway died instantly.

I looked up through a blur of scalding tears, my breath stalling in my throat.

It was Jaxson.

He wasn't in cuffs. His dark suit jacket was slightly disheveled, his dark hair falling over his brow, but his presence was as towering and formidable as ever. He took one look at me—curled on the floor, weeping, broken under the weight of my family's treachery—and the cold, impenetrable CEO mask he wore so effortlessly completely shattered.

"Sienna," he rasped, his voice thick with a raw, desperate tenderness I had never heard from him before.

Ignoring the severe, agonizing strain in his right knee, he dropped heavily to his knees beside me on the cold stone floor. The impact made him wince slightly, but he didn't care. He reached out, his massive, warm hands cupping my trembling shoulders, pulling me gently up from the cold floor.

"I... I can't..." I tried to speak, but another violent sob broke my voice, racking my frame. "My own uncle... my father's brother... they used me, Jaxson! They made me a weapon against you... they never cared about my father, they never cared about me..."

"Shh," Jaxson murmured softly, pulling me closer until I was tucked firmly against his broad chest.

His arms wrapped tightly around my back, holding me with a fierce, protective strength that instantly cut through the freezing cold of the corridor. I didn't pull away. I buried my face into the crook of his neck, my hands clutching the dark fabric of his shirt as I wept openly into his skin. The subtle scent of cedar, snow, and rain wrapped around me, grounding my spiraling mind.

Every wall, every boundary, every professional line that had existed between us over the past weeks vanished into nothingness. In the dark, hidden passage, we weren't a billionaire client and his hired therapist. We were two scarred, battered survivors holding on to each other in the middle of a war.

Jaxson held me tight, his large hand gently resting against the back of my head, his fingers tracing through my hair with uncharacteristic softness. He rested his chin against the top of my head, his chest rising and falling in slow, steady rhythms beneath my cheek.

"Let it out, Sienna," he whispered, his voice vibrating deep within his chest against my ear. "You don't have to be strong anymore. You don't have to carry their poison by yourself."

"Why would they do this?" I sobbed, my voice muffled against his shirt. "I gave up my practice, my life, everything to pay off that debt... and it was all a game to them."

"Because they are cowards," Jaxson said, a cold, dangerous edge creeping into his tone even as his touch remained impossibly gentle. "They thought they could trade you like a piece of property because they didn't realize what you were truly worth. But Bronisław made a fatal mistake, Sienna. He thought he was giving me a vulnerability. He didn't realize he was giving me the strongest partner I could have ever asked for."

His words settled deep into my soul, soothing the agonizing burn of betrayal. Slowly, the violent trembling in my frame began to subside. I listened to the steady, powerful thud of his heart, taking strength from the absolute certainty in his voice.

After a long moment, my sobs quieted into soft, ragged breaths. I pulled back slightly, looking up into his face in the dim amber light of the passage.

Jaxson was looking down at me, his sharp, handsome features lined with a mixture of intense concern and raw, unyielding devotion. He raised his hand, his long fingers gently wiping away the wet tear tracks from my cheekbones.

"What about the marshals?" I asked quietly, my voice raspy. "How are you here?"

"Radek buys us thirty minutes," Jaxson revealed, a shadowy, tactical smile touching his lips. "He presented the federal lead agent with a formal jurisdictional delay based on the local Zakopane municipal charter. The marshals are stuck in the main foyer going through paperwork, but they will breach the perimeter once they realize the delay is a distraction."

He slid his hands down to my face, his warm thumbs resting gently against my jawline. Slowly, deliberately, Jaxson lifted my chin, forcing me to meet his gaze.

His steel-blue eyes locked onto mine with an intense, burning fire that banished every trace of doubt, fear, and weakness from the room.

"Your family tried to use you to destroy me, Sienna, but they failed," Jaxson declared, his voice dropping into a low, commanding register that thrilled through my blood like pure lightning. "They don't own you anymore. Your debts are gone, your contract is dust, and you owe them nothing."

He leaned in closer, his face stopping mere inches from mine, his breath warm against my lips as the storm raged beyond the walls.

"We fight them together now," he vowed, his eyes blazing with absolute conviction. "And we take back everything."

The floorboards beneath us vibrated violently.Radek instantly drew his sidearm, stepping in front of us, his radio bursting into a storm of static and frantic shouts."Boss, they didn't just cut the power!" a guard’s voice screamed through the speaker over the heavy chatter of automatic gunfire. The Vance tactical units had breached the lower gates. They were inside the perimeter.Yet, inside the dim, smoke-scented air of the library, the loudest sound in the world was the heavy, rhythmic thrum of my own pulse. He bought my contract to keep me safe. The words spun through my mind like a centrifuge, tearing dow

My heart trooped as I waited for him talk"She didn't need to connect to your uncle's servers to send him the files," Radek said softly. "This chip has been broadcasting her exact real-time location, every keystroke she’s typed, and every diagnostic scan she’s performed directly to Bronisław’s private desk in Kraków... since the day she packed her bags to come here."The tiny black square on the exposed motherboard seemed to pulse under the glare of Radek’s penlight.A hardware bug. He was harvesting them."It’s an active mirror," Radek said, his tone flat and unyielding as he pointed the steel tip of his prying tool at

The emergency red strobe light spun across the dark mahogany shelves of the library, casting long, bleeding shadows over the floorboards. Out in the driveway, the muffled roar of diesel engines signaled the arrival of the Vance tactical convoy, but in my chest, the real violence was happening in complete silence. They were going to erase him.Bronisław was taking twenty-four years of Jaxson Cole’s sweat, fractured bones, and relentless obsession, and sweeping it into a corporate dustbin on live television. And he was doing it using my hand to hold the broom."Sienna," Jaxson’s voice came out low, a grounded rumble near my ear. His fingers remained braced on my shoulders, his grip so firm it kept my knees from buckling under the sheer weight of the lie. "Look at the screen. What’s the protocol?""He’s lying to the league board," I said. The trembling in my vocal cords vanished, replaced by an icy, dangerous calm that surprised even me. My blood didn't run hot; it turned to slush. "He’s

The taste of Jaxson Cole was still on my lips,The sound didn’t come from the heavy timber doors or the wind howling against the triple-paned glass facing the Tatra slopes. It came from my tablet, resting face-down on the leather ottoman beside the hearth. A sharp, continuous ping the high-priority frequency reserved exclusively for the Vance Sports Legacy board.I pulled back, my breath hitching in my throat. Jaxson’s hands were still resting on my waist, his thumbs pressing firmly through the soft cotton of my sweater. For three seconds, his steel-blue eyes held mine, dark with a heavy, unfiltered hunger that had nothing to do with football and everything to do with the way my fingers had just been tangled in his blonde hair."Don't," he muttered, his voice a low, and vibrated against my collarbone. "Let it ring, Sienna.""It’s the executive line," I whispered, though my voice sounded paper-thin. My skin felt flushed, every nerve ending firing from the sudden warmth of his body pr

We had taken refuge in the grand estate library. Floor-to-ceiling mahogany shelves lined with ancient leather-bound volumes enclosed the room, creating an intimate, insulated sanctuary against the blizzard raging beyond the stained-glass windows. On the central table, my laptop sat open beside Jaxson’s encrypted tablet, displaying real-time monitoring streams of Bronisław’s network activity and the fluctuating pre-market stock tickers. Jaxson stood near the hearth, staring down into the flickering amber embers. He had discarded his formal suit jacket and tie, leaving his white dress shirt unbuttoned at the collar, the sleeves rolled up to his forearms. Even with the physical exhaustion carved into his sharp features and the dull, lingering ache in his patellar tendon, his posture radiated an immovable, magnetic power. I sat on the edge of the leather sofa, watching him. My body was physically drained from the terror of the past few hours the setup, the threat of arrest, and the so
