MasukDays later, the doctor finally confirmed that I was fit for discharge. Lucien never once came to check on me.
She handed me my shattered phone, my bag, and the miscarriage report. The kind gentleman who had retrieved my belongings had already passed them on to her.
“Where is my daughter’s ward? You haven’t mentioned her,” I asked after waiting for her to bring it up herself, but she remained silent.
“…I couldn’t tell you then. Your husband moved your daughter out of this hospital on the very first day he arrived. He described our facility as quack and low standard,” she revealed.
My heart nearly stopped at her words.
They had transferred Bianca? Lucien hadn’t even thought of informing me?
If the hospital was truly as inadequate as he claimed, did he not care if I died here?
I forced a smile and rose to my feet, turning toward the door.
“Make sure you get enough rest,” she added.
I nodded, holding back the tears threatening to fall.
At home, my stomach twitched the moment I stepped inside.
Lucien and Elara were in the living room, drinking and laughing freely. Elara sat closely beside him, her body pressed against his as she swayed her waist playfully. They looked… carefree and unbothered. As though no one had been lying in a hospital bed for days… as though I never existed.
I forced myself to remain composed, but a tear slipped down my cheek against my will.
Without a word, I walked past them and headed straight to the bedroom, shutting the door behind me before breaking down completely.
I cried, not just because Lucien was with my stepsister but because of everything they had done without remorse… because of the five years of my life I had wasted believing in something that was never real.
Just then, my phone beeped.
*Hey Liora, everything is ready. In two days, he’ll receive the notification*.
A faint laugh escaped me as I wiped my tears.
*Thanks, you just made my day. Also, send him the recording*. I replied before setting the phone aside.
I walked toward my wardrobe when my phone rang, my mother calling.
“Hello, Mom.”
“Hey, darling. How are you?” she asked warmly.
I cleared my throat. “I’m fine, and you?”
“I’m great, but I’ve been worried about you,” she replied, her tone laced with concern.
She always worried about me… unaware of the danger surrounding my stepfamily. What if she ever met my stepmother and saw her true nature?
“I’m fine,” I said softly, letting out a small, controlled chuckle. “I’ve completed my charity project, and I’ll be flying back tomorrow.”
“Wow, that’s wonderful news! I’m so happy. I also have a surprise for you,” she added excitedly.
“A surprise?” My lips curved into a faint smile.
“Yes, you’ll find out when you arrive tomorrow. I’ll arrange an early morning flight and have someone pick you up at the airport,” she promised.
Before I could respond further, the line went dead.
She was genuinely excited to have me return… while others wished for my downfall.
I couldn’t wait to see what surprise she had prepared.
I opened my wardrobe and quickly packed my clothes into two bags as I walked past the living room. Drunk, Lucien stumbled toward me.
“Where are you going?” he asked, his words slurred.
“Let her go,” Elara interjected, holding him back and pulling him closer. “You know Mother left with Bianca, so now we finally have time to ourselves.”
I ignored them and loaded everything into the second car.
Returning to the room, I retrieved several documents: our divorce papers, the transfer of ownership, Bianca’s DNA report, my miscarriage report, and a handwritten note. I placed them neatly inside his drawer.
The note read:
*Have fun with my stepsister in poverty. This is for my babies, bastard. Don’t bother looking for me, we will never see each other again*.
The next morning, I prepared myself quickly and left before they woke up.
At the airport, I boarded the plane and gazed out of the window as the ground slowly faded beneath me.
“Goodbye to pain… and fake love,” I whispered under my breath.
Lucien was awakened by the persistent ringing of his phone.
“Hello,” he answered groggily, not bothering to check the caller ID.
“Dude, it’s me! How could you?” Anderson’s voice came through urgently.
“What news?” Lucien muttered, still half-asleep.
“You donated your entire company to charity!”
Lucien’s eyes snapped open instantly, sleep vanishing in an instant.
“That’s a lie!” he shouted, his voice trembling as he rose to his feet.
“Come out, man. Come to your company,” Anderson urged.
Lucien rushed into his room, heading straight for his wardrobe, only to pause when a notification appeared on his phone.
He glanced at it:
[Dear Lucien Wayne, this is to notify you that the signed divorce agreement has taken full effect, dissolving the marriage]
“What divorce?” His heart began to race. He threw the phone onto the bed and yanked open the wardrobe.
That’s when he saw them, his eyes landed on the transfer of ownership documents.
Liora’s POVI gently rubbed Aurora’s back, her small body already relaxed in sleep.“Goodnight, darling,” I whispered, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead before switching off the lights and quietly stepping out of her room.By the time I reached mine, I collapsed onto the bed, my eyes closing almost instantly as sleep claimed me.When I opened them again, morning had come, I rubbed my eyes as I sat up, then suddenly, realization struck.“Aurora!”Her name escaped my lips as I shot to my feet and rushed toward her room. She wasn’t on the bed, the sound of running water echoed faintly from within.“Rora?” I called, following the sound toward the bathroom.“Good morning, ma’am. She’s having her bath,” Mandy’s voice rang out, but I was already pushing the door open.Aurora sat in the tub, water droplets clinging to her freshly washed hair, neatly packed up.“Good morning, mummy,” she greeted softly.I forced a smile. “Rora, be a good girl for me, alright? I’ll be back in a minute.” Then
Author’s POVDylan’s hand shot out without warning, clamping around her wrist so tightly that a sharp gasp tore from Elara’s lips.“Look at me.” He said coldly. He yanked her closer, his grip unrelenting as he lifted her hand slightly, forcing her attention onto him.“We’re doing this my way,” he said flatly, before shoving her back. Her body stumbled, her back colliding with the edge of the couch. Pain flared briefly, but she steadied herself, her pulse racing wildly in her chest.“Please… Dylan,” she whispered. “Lucien…”His jaw tightened instantly.“You really care that much about him?” he asked, his tone laced with quiet menace. She hesitated, fear flickering in her eyes. “Please… just let him go. For his daughter.”For a moment, Dylan stayed silent, then he took a slow step forward.“Beg.”Elara froze. “What?”His gaze hardened. “I said,” he repeated, his voice dropping, “beg.”Her chest tightened. “Dylan…”Before she could finish, he grabbed her arm again and yanked her forward
Author’s POVElara sat rigidly on the edge of the hospital bed, her fingers wrapped protectively around Bianca’s tiny hand who was asleep. Across from them, Stephanie sat in silence.“Mum… Lucien still isn’t back,” Elara finally said, her voice low.Stephanie exhaled slowly. “And we still don’t know where he is.”Elara lifted her gaze to meet hers, fear flickering in her eyes. “What if… he abandoned us?”Stephanie’s expression hardened instantly. “He wouldn’t dare. And what about Bianca?” Her tone sharpened. “You need to call him.”Elara hesitated, then sighed. “I turned my phone off… I didn’t want Dylan to reach me.”“You don’t have that luxury right now,” Stephanie replied firmly. “Bianca has cried herself to sleep more times than I can count. You need to find Lucien.”Reluctantly, Elara reached for her phone on the bedside stool and dialed Lucien’s number. She held it to her ear, her heart pounding, but the call didn’t connect.“Mum… it’s not going through,” she murmured, lowering
Liora’s POV“Mummy!”Aurora’s tiny voice rang out as she came running toward me. I was seated across from the school’s principal when she flung herself into my arms.“Rora, we’re heading home now,” I said with a gentle smile, brushing a strand of hair from her face.“Really? Is it closing time? Why aren’t the other parents here?” she asked, her brows knitting with innocent curiosity.I exhaled softly. “Let’s not worry about that right now.”Turning back to the principal, I offered a grateful nod. “Thank you so much for understanding.”She simply nodded in return.I picked up Aurora’s bag and led her out. Once we reached the car, I opened the door, settled her carefully in the passenger seat as the engine came to life with a low hum.“Mummy, I want to follow you to work,” Aurora said, giggling.“Of course. We’ll go together tomorrow,” I replied, shaking my head playfully.“Mummy is the best!” she chirped, stretching her arms wide.I raised a brow teasingly. “And what is my little princ
Author’s POVAva sat in the passenger seat, her phone pressed tightly to her ear, her hand trembling slightly. Beside her, Derek stared out the window.“I’m sorry, ma’am,” Ava said into the phone, her voice soft and remorseful, her eyes darting nervously.“What should I do?” Ava asked, her voice laced with uncertainty.Just then, a sharp wail of sirens cut through the air.Ava’s gaze shifted instinctively toward the sound just as a custody van pulled into view, its tires screeching as it slowed. Then the rear doors swung open as two officers stepped out first before reaching inside.Ava leaned forward… and then she saw Lucien. Her breath caught. He was dragged down from the van. His hands were cuffed tightly in front of him, and a white bandage was wrapped around his head, slightly stained. He wore a simple custody uniform. For a moment, everything around her went silent as her phone slipped from her ear.Beside her, Derek followed her line of sight, and the instant his eyes landed on
Liora’s POVA meeting with Lucien? No…I lowered the phone slowly from my ear, my breath hitching.“Do you have his location?” Derek’s voice rang through.“Ahh…” My mouth parted as I quickly covered it with my hand. Please, Ava… don’t.“No, sir, I don’t,” Ava replied, her voice steady.Thank goodness.“No one I can reach to get through to him?” Derek pressed. Why push this further? She already said she doesn’t know. Just leave her alone.“…I honestly don’t know, sir. He used to have about two close friends. I knew one of their houses, my boss sent me there once. But lately, the property has been locked up, and I haven’t seen him around anymore,” Ava explained.“I love you, Ava,” I muttered under my breath, my hand still pressed to my lips.“Have you tried asking around?” Derek continued.“Are you de…” I stopped myself, clamping my lips shut.“Liora, breathe,” I whispered, forcing myself to inhale… then exhale.“No, sir. I didn’t think it was necessary. I have no business with him sinc
