Liora’s POV

“There’s nothing here,” I said, angling the phone just enough to keep the screen out of his sight.

He paused.

For a moment, his eyes lingered on me sharply, as though trying to peel back layers I refused to reveal. My pulse spiked under the weight of his gaze.

Then, without a word, he turned.

Relief didn’t come immediately. I watched him walk to the door, open it, and step out before quietly shutting it behind him.

“Ahh…” The breath I released was shaky, almost fragile.

Liora’s POVI sat in the living room quietly as my phone buzzed sharply against the sofa. The sound snapped my attention, and I reached for it, my breath catching the moment I saw Ava’s name on the screen.[Hi ma’am, I just spoke with Mr. Grey.][Please, can I call you now?]My fingers tightened around the phone as a heavy unease settled in my chest.Slowly, I opened my contacts and hovered over her number. I was about to dial when the sound of approaching footsteps echoed through the hallway.I froze as the door creaked open.Derek stepped in with Aurora; he had just picked her up from school.“Mummy!” Aurora’s voice rang out.I quickly locked my phone and placed it face-down on the chair before rising to meet her. She ran straight into my arms, and I lifted her effortlessly.“Rora,” I said softly, forcing warmth into my voice, “how was school today? Did you learn well?”Her face lit up. “Yes, Mummy! I answered most of my teacher’s questions.” She beamed. “And I made a friend, a new

Author’s POVLucien strode toward them.“Hey, man,” James greeted casually. But the stranger said nothing. His gaze remained fixed on Lucien, sharp and searching, as though sifting through fragments of memory.“I’ve met you before…” he finally said.Lucien frowned slightly, confusion flickering across his features. “I don’t think so.”“You know him?” James asked, glancing between them, clearly taken aback.“Yes,” the man replied, nodding with certainty. “I met him during a business meeting… with Mrs. Liora.” His eyes shifted back to Lucien. “You’re her husband, right?” the man pressed. “Where is she?”Lucien’s jaw tightened. “That’s none of your concern.”The man studied him, a faint smirk forming. “I see… things didn’t end well.”“James, meet me inside,” Lucien said curtly, brushing past them without another glance. The moment he stepped into the house, he dropped onto the sofa, dragging a hand through his hair as he exhaled sharply.“Why does everyone insist on reminding me of that

Author’s POV*The next day*Stephanie guided Elara into the living room, her grip firm yet careful as she helped her settle onto the sofa.Elara leaned back, exhaustion evident in the way her shoulders slumped.“Mum… I’m starving,” she murmured weakly.“I’ll get you something,” Stephanie replied, turning toward the kitchen. But the moment she stepped inside, she froze. The kitchen was completely bare; no groceries… no leftovers, not even a crumb. Her expression darkened instantly. Jaw tightening, she spun on her heels and marched out, heading straight for Lucien’s room. Her knock was harsh, almost a bang.Inside, Lucien flinched, startled as he hastily arranged his belongings into a bag.“Who is it?” he called, moving toward the door.He opened it, and the moment he saw Stephanie, his chest tightened.“You… you’re back already?” he asked, his voice strained.“Obviously,” she snapped. “Or did you expect us to stay at the hospital forever while you came home to relax?”Her eyes burned w

The screen lit up with two missed calls from Ava.A frown creased my forehead.“Why is she calling? Is Lucien still bothering her?” I muttered under my breath.Phone in hand, I moved toward the door an

“I’m not hiding anything from you,” I said, forcing steadiness into my voice.“Liora…” he called softly, his gaze fixed on me as my pulse quickened. At once, the contract condition resurfaced in my mind:NO INTERFERENCE IN EACH OTHER'S PRIVATE LIVES.My jaw tightened, but this time, when I met his eyes, I was composed.“You made it clear in the contract, no interference in each other’s private lives,” I reminded him firmly. He hesitated. “But this isn’t just about you. It’s about…”“It is my private life,” I said, quieter now, but no less firm. “What I do… where I go… that’s not yours to question.”Derek fell silent, studying me with an intensity that made my chest tighten. Still, I held my expression steady, refusing to let anything slip. After a moment, he stood, his gaze never leaving mine. “If you’re not going with me… I can’t leave either. People will start asking questions.”“You can,” I replied quickly. “We’ll tell them you left to attend to your newly acquired property.”He ex

When it didn’t, I dropped my phone onto the bed and forced my attention back to the contract in my hands.Line after line blurred before my eyes, but I signed anyway.I slid the document into the drawer beside the bed with deliberate care, and then I lay back, staring at the ceiling.“Please… I can’t let this happen,” I whispered, dragging a hand slowly over my face. After a moment, I reached for my phone again, checking for a reply… but there was nothing.A hollow breath escaped me.“I need to sleep… it’s been a long day,” I murmured, turning onto my side.Sleep eventually claimed me.*The next day*I woke abruptly and hurried into the bathroom. It wasn’t until I stepped back into the room that the re
