CHAPTER 2: GETTING MY WAY

Queen Antionette's POV

Flashback to four years ago

"I am to be married to the Alpha King himself. You will not tell Mckenna the truth," I ordered Mckenna's parents. "She deserves to know the truth, especially now that you're dragging her to that awful place!" her mother shouted. "Watch your tone!" I growled. "I don't care who you are! Do not come to our home again! We can tell our daughter whatever we desire," her father growled back. "If you tell her of your own transgressions, you are surely the one who will relive the nightmare. I would have McKenna stoned to death and make you watch. I would let you live only to relive the moment your daughter took her last breath and the life leave from her eyes. Your farm will be given away, and you will have nowhere to live, but you would certainly work the land as slaves. Try me!" I threatened. "You wouldn't do that," her mother calmly said. "Don't you remember what I am capable of? Who do you think had you banished from court and called a status-climbing whore? That is only a snippet of what I would do to McKenna. If she comes with me, then I would surely look after her. After all, she is my best friend," I grinned.

They shared a look before hanging their head in defeat.

"We won't tell her. Please, take care of her," McKenna's father sighed. "I will do my best," I said, retreating outside of their home.

I couldn't have McKenna finding out what her mother did. It affects us all, including my mother. McKenna had her bags packed and accompanied me to the palace as she was told. I wanted to keep her close.

"Antionette! When were you going to tell me that you arrived?" my mother asked, walking alongside my future mother-in-law, Darcy. "Mother, I had to retrieve the help," I said, looking back at McKenna, who seemed preoccupied with the ambiance of the palace. "Very well. Come!" my mother said, pulling me behind Darcy. "Who's the she-wolf help?" She suspiciously asked. "No one important. We grew up together, is all," I replied. "Hmm, if she is to be one of your handmaidens, I hope you can trust her," Darcy pointed out before we made it to the garden. "Understood. She is both young and naive. Harmless, really," I said, making them both giggle. "My son will join us shortly. Before he does, I want to ensure you know your role as his mate. You are to bear an heir and stand at his side supporting him even if you disagree. Is that understood?" Darcy asked. "No! I will not show up in fancy dresses, only to be barefoot and pregnant within the next few months. Lincoln will understand," I rebutted. "Antionette! Mind your manners! You will do as the Luna Queen says," my mother interjected, and I only nodded mostly in disapproval.

This is not what I signed up for. I refuse to be a humping post or a permanently pregnant poodle. I dismissed myself when my mother and Darcy started discussing pup names. I turned the corner only to run into Lincoln speaking with McKenna. My inner wolf wanted to shift and rip her throat out but soon realized it was innocent. McKenna was seriously bragging about what a good Luna Queen I would make. It actually warmed my heart.

"Are you okay, Anti?" she asked. "Mother overload," I sighed, locking eyes with Lincoln. "I'll take your mind off their drama," Lincoln said, grabbing my waist. "Well, I'll leave you two to it. I need to get settled in anyway," McKenna giggled before scurrying out of sight.

Everything was perfect or almost perfect. I would have revenge for my mother and reclaim my father's heart for her. Hopefully, he allows her to move back into his pack house instead of making her suffer at his border.
