Valerie.

I was sitting alone in the rose garden when I felt it, that strange prickling on the back of my neck. The sun was setting, casting gold across the dark trees that framed the estate like a fortress, but the beauty of it was lost on me. I’d stopped noticing the roses, the sprawling lawn, the silence of luxury. It didn’t feel like home. It felt like a cage.

I rubbed my arms through the thick cardigan Max had made someone pack for me. Since the encounter with the pack earlier that day when they stared like I was a parasite rather than the woman carrying their Alpha’s heir I hadn’t been able to stop crying. Even now, my eyes were dry but raw.

They hated me. And maybe I hated myself a little too for staying.

I hadn’t heard anyone approach, but the air shifted. It grew warmer, somehow brighter.

“You shouldn’t sit out here alone. It’s getting cold.” The voice was smooth, male, deep but gentle but definitely not Max.

I jumped to my feet, my heart thudding as I turned around.

Valerie. The room was dimly lit with the soft golden glow from the antique lamps on either side of the massive bed. I stood by the window, arms folded over my chest, trying to process everything. From the secrets about Alpha Kai to the graveyard visit earlier that afternoon, my mind was a mess. And yet, in all that chaos, one thing stood out clearly.Max.His presence behind me was grounding, even when everything else felt like it was slipping from my grasp.“I didn’t mean to overwhelm you,” he said gently from behind me.I turned slightly, eyes meeting his. “You didn’t. I just… I didn’t realize how much pain you were carrying.”His lips pressed into a soft smile as he stepped forward, closing the distance between us. “It’s not pain I talk about often. But with you, it’s different. I want you to know me, Valerie. The real me.”My heart thudded in my chest. Not because of fear or anxiety. But because somewhere along the line, I had started to care. Genuinely care about him.“Why me, M

His Mother’s SilenceValerie. I leaned against the wooden balcony railing, gazing out at the vast forest behind the estate. The air was crisper here, fresh and filled with the quiet rustle of wind through leaves. Somewhere in the distance, I could hear wolves howling soft, melodic, and oddly comforting now.Behind me, the glass doors to the guest room slid open with a soft click. I turned to see Max stepping out, a bottle of water in one hand, his other rubbing the back of his neck. He looked different tonight, less polished, more like the boy he must’ve once been.“Hey,” he said, walking toward me. “You okay?”I nodded. “Just thinking.”He handed me the bottle and leaned on the railing beside me, his body close but not imposing. We stood there for a beat, just listening to the wind.“You were quiet on the way back,” he said after a moment.“I’m just… processing everything,” I admitted. “Your mother’s grave. The things your father said. It’s a lot.”Max let out a low breath, eyes sca

The Truth Behind the GraveValerie. I was supposed to be meeting the elders now, but plans change all the time. But I knew this had everything to do with my meeting earlier with Alpha Kai and now suddenly we were going on a short road trip. Not that I was really complaining. It was beautiful out here, and I loved the scenery. The soft hum of the engine was oddly calming as we drove through the winding road lined with towering pines. The sky was an overcast gray, a mirror to the heaviness that still clung to my chest since my strange encounter with Alpha Kai.Max hadn’t said much at first just that he wanted to clear his head and take me somewhere special. I hadn’t expected the sudden getaway, but I welcomed the escape. After the tension with Kai and all the uncertainty, my nerves were fraying like old threads.I stole a glance at Max from the passenger seat. He didn't want any of the security with us, so he was the one driving us and I loved that this was going to be just us. His h

Whispers in the BloodMax. I should have known the summons was coming from my dad the moment he met her. The aura suddenly changed and I could tell something was way off. The moment Valerie bumped into him and Kai looked at her like he’d seen a ghost, I knew something had shifted. My father, though not by blood, wasn't easily rattled. But that day, I saw it. A flicker in his stone cold eyes. A second of recognition that told me he knew something I didn’t.Valerie for sure rattled him and I too wanted to know what was going on. And now, here we were. The ancient war room was empty except for the two of us. The stone walls seemed to absorb every sound, every breath, making the silence between us louder than any roar. I stood near the long table carved from blackwood, arms folded over my chest, waiting for him to speak.Kai didn’t rush. He never did. That was part of his power letting the tension simmer until it choked you. Growing up I hated that, I hated it but as I got older I star

A Face I’ve Seen BeforeValerie. I couldn’t stop fidgeting. The dress Max had picked out for me was stunning, a rich burgundy that hugged my body in all the right places and made my skin glow. My bump was still not showing which was perfect for me, the dress fit like a glove. But even that couldn’t calm the storm of anxiety brewing in my chest. My palms were clammy, my breath shallow, and my heart had been pounding for the last ten minutes.I was going to meet his dad, that was enough to send me into spiral mode. What if he didn't like me? It was definitely important for the man that raised him to like me. What happens if he doesn't? Will Max throw me out? A lot was running through my mind and it was like he could sense I was overthinking it. “You’re going to be fine,” Max said, giving my hand a reassuring squeeze as we walked down the long corridor toward the pack’s inner council chamber.“Easy for you to say. You grew up in this world. I just found out werewolves are real last we

The Man Who Raised the AlphaValerie For the first time in a really long time, I slept through the night. I woke to the sound of slow, rhythmic breathing. deep and steady. It was warm. Safe. And for a disorienting moment, I thought I was dreaming for a few seconds there as everything started registering in my mind. Then I felt it, his arm around me, solid and heavy across my waist. My back pressed gently into his chest, his warm breath tickling the side of my neck. Max.Everything from last night came rushing back. The mango slices. The foot rub. His quiet tenderness. And me, asking him to stay.I blinked my eyes open slowly, adjusting to the soft morning light filtering in through gauzy curtains. The air smelled like cedarwood and clean linen. His scent. The fact that he was still here, soundly sleeping was so surprising. I had for sure thought last night when I woke up he would be gone. But there he was sleeping so soundly. I turned slightly, careful not to wake him. But the mom
