The Escape

The little lady kicked James on the thighs, pushing him backwards. Then she quickly slammed the door, locking it.

She turned towards the man besides her. "You must be their Alpha, judging from your car and suit I can tell you don't need the money” she smiled in a seductive manner. But I will offer you good money, I’ll pay well, just tell the driver to drive fast. I promise I will get off when we get outside the city."

Big blue eyes like a sunny sky, full cherry lips and a cute face, her skin as creamy as milk. Steve could not stop staring at her, he looked behind him as James opened the door to the alpha side, giving her a dark look.

He swallowed the words at the tip of his tongue, as Steve nodded indicating they drive as the girl wished. He looked at the alpha for a while, wondering if he has been bewitched and then returned to the front sit obediently.

Steve took out a clean towel from a small compartment between the seat and handed it to her while smiling faintly. She grabbed it and dried her body thanking him profusely. He grabbed a pen instead and wrote neatly on the paper and passed it to James.

"SLOW." It read.

He stretched the paper a bit and showed it to Tony since he was the one driving. The car slowed down, it was enveloped with silence. The corners of the alpha's mouth twitched into a small smile but it was gone quickly before they could notice.

"Oh shit!" Tony cursed, watching as a fleet of flashy cars drove pass them. "A dozen of the same cars, is it a convoy?" The lady quickly noticed the fleet of cars and bent slightly like she was hiding from someone.

Everyone looked at her in awe, they were surprised, especially James. He took a closer look through the outside mirror so as to see what exactly was happening.. "I recognize the plate numbers. They are from the Moonstone pack” he muttered.

The girl shrank back in her back seat as she heard that. She turned to see Steve staring at her with a piercing gaze. “ Oh no, it’s no what you are thinking” she tried to explain. "Don't look at me like that”, she screamed. My my…”Well my family wants to force marriage on me, they want me to marry but I don't want to”. I don’t even know or love him so I escaped” she turned to look through the window. Steve was confused as well as his beta. He started at her in disbelief, this little girl in front of him is not to be trusted, he thought, He could tell she was lying.

He took the file again, opening it and taking a look at the information. Barbara Hampton, eighteen years old.

According to the information he was holding, with the current status of the Moonstone pack, they didn't have any reason to marry off their daughter. Moreover, she was their only child, how could they marry her off just like that when she still so young? There is more to this, I am very sure there is. It is disbelieving that the famous Moonstone pack will try to force her to marry when she is not willing to.

"You are lying, He mumbled coldly. And I don't like women who lie."

Barbara Hampton's heart thumped faster in her chest; no I am not lying, she quickly uses her body to block the door as he was staring at her like he wanted to throw her out.

"I swear I am not lying to you; my parent really did try to force me to marry the youngest alpha of the Nightwalker pack for business interests." They plan to marry me out without even finding out if I like him or not. They do not care about my feelings.

Steve looked at her like he was looking into her very soul, he could only blink at her. She continued, "I am only eighteen years old, and I am told the alpha is twenty- six years old, he's so old. Such a pervert trying to marry someone this young." She pointed at herself. "You must have heard that alpha Steve is the worst, he is so rude, bad tempered and has a nasty personality. That's why even though their pack is the richest, he is not yet married at twenty - six years. He has never being in love, I wonder the kind of man he is." She gasped dramatically. "Maybe he has psychological problem or he is probably gay, she rolled her eyes. The alpha looked at her in awe, his mouth open without uttering a word. Or maybe he is just so cold that his heart has frozen, she continued. So if I get married to him, every day I will be miserable. Become lonesome and might even end up dying an early death, she cried."

She continued crying, "I can never marry such a heartless man." Tony sneaked a peek at the Steve's expression through the rear-view mirror and quickly averted his gaze back to the road. The alpha's eyes had gone red, his lips thinned, his expression caustic like a volcano. James took out a handkerchief from his pocket to wipe his sweat. "Was this Barbara sent by the gods to play with his alpha." He thought amusedly.

First, she had saved the young master from drowning in San Francisco and now she was wrecking him with her provocative words. Was this fate? Maybe it was destiny that kept bringing them together. Does she not remember who the man in front of her was? “Has she suddenly lost her memory or what”? James thought.

He suddenly remembered that Steve repeatedly told him earlier that he had go to the Nightwalker pack's mansion today for something urgent. Could the 'something important' be the marriage union between the youngest alpha of NightWalker and the Moonstone pack? Or could it be about a new business deal? Or maybe something different.

"Alpha...... " James trailed off by the serious look on Steve's face. He was about to say something else when Steve interrupted him. He made a sound like something was stuck up in his throat and James looked at him. Steve had already figured out what he was about to say.

He stared down at Barbara Hampton, and muttered indignantly. "The youngest alpha was in a car accident at the age of seventeen and lost his leg, he can't stand or walk. You don't know that, do you?"

Barbara stared at him blankly. "Is that why he's single?"

It is not unknown that the youngest alpha of the Nightwalker pack lost his legs due to the impacts of the accident, was paralyzed on both legs and also mute. It was just that since Steve was the only crippled werewolf in the entire autumn clan. And was solicitously mindful of his shortcomings, it became a taboo to mention the alpha’s disabilities. If people wanted to stay in the clan, the word must never come out of their mouth. That was why Julia gasped startled that the man in front of her dare to bluntly state a taboo.

Steve stared at her for a while and then added, "Do you know he's mute too?"

"You are so brave." she exclaimed. Spilling such words about the alpha's disability, just pray your head is not taken off. He smiled and muttered nonchalantly. "And you are naive."

"I am not the one mentioning the taboo of the Nightwalker pack, am I?" She retorted.

But you have said worse things about the alpha, Steve chuckled darkly, and you have done worse. James looked at the alpha and noticed his eyes were dead red, it is okay mater, he tried to keep him calm. Please, he continued and then looked sharply at Barbara. Stop it, he screamed in anger. “You dare to run away from your marriage, jumped in front of a car on a freeway casually, got into a strange car, and even slandered the owner right in his presence” James continued.

Barbara stopped talking and turned her face to the other side. Tony just observed since he was driving, he did not want to get distracted. The whole place became quiet for sometime, nobody said anything.

The car drove off the freeway, and Tony parked it at the side of the road. James handed the little lady a big black umbrella, while Steven gave her a sticky note with his phone number written on it. "You ran away from your marriage little girl. You owe me. Settle down first and pay me back later." Barbara had already counted the two thousand dollars and dropped it on the seat. She stared hesitantly at the umbrella, her eyes wandering from the man's face to the note. "Well, I really need the money." She thought as she took the note from his hand, grabbed the money and walked out of the car.

The expensive car drove past her, splashing muds of water on her wet dress." Damn” she shouted.

Steve rested his head on the headrest and wrote something on the sticky note and handed it to his beta. James was surprised at the word he had written on the note. "Alpha Steve, do you think miss Barbara had some ulterior motives approaching you today?" Even with the way she acted like she had never seen you before.

"Do you think she was used as bait for the incident that happened in San Francisco six months ago?" Tony asked.

Steve stayed quiet, he was not one who believed in fate, but most importantly he did not believe in so many coincidences. He had asked James to investigate as he wanted to find out if she really was a bait. If she was, who was behind her?

Whether the little girl had ulterior motives or not, he will have to wait and see if she calls first....
