ARIA

The bell rang, sharp and insistent, slicing through the lingering tension of the class. The sound didn’t just signal the end of the lesson—it punctured the heaviness that had been pressing down on me for the past hour.

I swallowed, trying to steady the fluttering in my chest, but it felt like my ribs were holding a storm that refused to quiet itself.

My question lingered in my mind, unanswered, like a loose thread I couldn’t quite grasp.

When someone eyes glows or they are remarkably fast, does it mean they are supernatural?

I had tried to answer it, really. I had searched my mind for a simple neat response, gone to Mr Thorne for help, but nothing fit.

And that frustration had festered, twisting into a quiet, burning irritation I didn’t know how to release. I thought I could leave it behind, but the weight of that unspoken answer clung to me, stubborn and cold.

“Ma’am?” I had whispered once before, my voice small and uncertain, but the scraping of chairs and tabl

ARIA > Aaron: Can we talk? I miss you, Aria. I don’t want this to end.Aaron’s message stayed in my head long after I dropped the phone. The words burned into my mind.He was the same person who had said he didn’t want us anymore—just because I wouldn’t send him naked pictures. Same pictures I mistakenly sent to Adrian Cole and was in this mess for. Because for once, I chose self-respect over pleasing someone else. And now he wanted us again?I almost laughed, but the sound that left me was closer to a choke. There was already too much in my life to bear; I couldn’t afford to think about him or what might’ve been. Every time I let my mind wander there, the old ache returned, the kind that didn’t bleed anymore but still left bruises inside me.So I pushed the phone aside and got dressed. The morning light filtered weakly through the curtains, soft but colorless, the kind of gray that made everything feel distant. My school uniform clung cold against my skin as I buttoned it. My fing

  • SWIPE RIGHT FOR THE ALPHA    CHAPTER TWENTY -ONE

ARIAI stayed on the floor longer than I meant to. My back hurt from leaning against the door, and my eyes burned from crying. The house was quiet except for the faint hum of the refrigerator downstairs and the occasional drip of water from the leaking pipe outside my window. When I finally pushed myself up, my legs felt numb. My body was cold from the rain that had soaked through my clothes hours ago. Everything felt heavy — my limbs, my head, even the air.I switched on my lamp. The soft yellow glow made my room feel smaller. My wet uniform clung to my skin, sticky and uncomfortable. I stripped it off quickly, shivering as the fabric peeled away, and grabbed my towel.I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror on my wardrobe door. For a second, I almost didn’t recognize the girl staring back. Her hair was a mess, eyes red and puffy, face pale. There was a faint mark on her cheek — maybe from Cassie’s ring, maybe from falling. Her expression was blank, empty in a way that scared me m

ARIA The sky had already begun to fade into that soft orange-gray that meant evening was closing in when my phone buzzed again. I was halfway down the block that curved away from school, the pavement still warm under my shoes even though the air was starting to cool.> Adrian: I will meet you at the tutorials hall in five minutes. For a second I thought I’d read it wrong. I stopped under the trees lining the street and stared at the words until they blurred. I wanted to ignore the first message he’d sent earlier, the one asking me not to go home. But this one—this one caught me off guard.I didn’t know what I was supposed to do.My pulse jumped, confusion and curiosity tangling inside me in a way that made my chest tighten. I looked back toward the school gates. The building stood quiet in the fading light, windows glowing faintly. My first thought was that maybe he wanted to explain what had happened earlier—with Cassie, with that stupid Facebook post. Or maybe he’d finally decided

  • SWIPE RIGHT FOR THE ALPHA    CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

ARIAAs Miss Morrigan continued writing on the board, a shiver ran down my spine—not from the chill of the air conditioning, but from something heavier, something that seemed to press down on my chest. The room felt smaller, almost suffocating, as though it were holding its breath in anticipation of what was about to happen. I could hear my own heart beating, a sharp, erratic rhythm in the quiet hum of fluorescent lights. She turned toward us, chalk still clutched delicately between her fingers, eyes calm yet razor-sharp. Her gaze swept across the room slowly, methodically, as if reading each of us, weighing our thoughts before she even asked a question.“So,” she said, her voice low but carrying clearly, “what comes to mind when you hear the word… supernatural?”The question hit like ice water, freezing a few of the students in place. I could feel Cassie’s hand shoot up almost instinctively, her expression eager and calculated, her silver earrings glinting as if mocking anyone who da

  • SWIPE RIGHT FOR THE ALPHA    CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

ARIA“I’ll leave you to it,” Principal Lockhart said, her polished heels clicking toward the door. “Enjoy your class of discovering possibilities.”Her voice carried that confident, administrative tone that filled every corner of the room — polished, distant, practiced. It was the kind of voice that commanded attention without trying, like she’d said those same words a hundred times before. When the door closed behind her, the echo of her heels lingered for a moment before fading into silence. The stillness that followed felt heavy, as though she’d taken with her the last trace of warmth from the air.Discovering possibilities. The phrase floated above us like a promise wrapped in warning. It didn’t sound like a beginning. It sounded like the start of something we weren’t ready for.For a few seconds, no one moved. You could hear the faint, uneven rhythm of breathing — the sound of a class collectively unsure of what came next. Then, Miss Morrigan turned. Slowly. Her movements were fl
