              ***ALEXANDER'S ***

“What are you going to do about the money?” Raphael asked again, leaning back into the plush seat, a satisfied smile playing on his lips as he exhaled a thin plume of smoke. I followed suit, letting out a calming breath as the rich aroma enveloped us. “I’ll find it,” I said, my confidence unwavering as I licked my lips and reclined back against the comforting leather, sinking into the moment. The car’s interior was quiet, save for the soft crackle of our cigarettes and the distant hum of the city outside. Raphael’s grin widened, and I could tell he had no doubt in my abilities—an understanding forged by our past experiences together. The thrill of the unknown ahead ignited a spark of exhilaration within me.

Raphael was my late Uncle James Mariano's son, my mother's brother, which makes him my cousin, his my best friend, second in command, and a skilled sharpshooter. He was only two years younger than I was. No one knew of his existence until his parents died, and my parents took him in. He was only ten years old then; I was twelve, and since then, we have been inseparable. I feel somewhat sorry for him. My parents are alive, and they give me their greatest legacy.

I am Alexander Antonio, the boss of the Italian Mafia and CEO of THE ANTONIO'S company.

The car soon stopped, and my door was opened by my guard. "Thank you, Sergio," I nodded as I stepped into the dark night. Sergio is my most loyal guard; he would take a bullet for me. I admire his skill, and I trust him with my life. Likewise, Raphael does too. He nodded back in response, his hand on the gun in his belt, looking around. I breathed in the cool air and smiled to myself.

“Oh shit,” Raphael muttered as he rubbed his neck and tried to arrange his hair perfectly. I looked at what he saw: some ladies were looking our way. “Just don't steal all the beautiful ladies tonight, Alex,” Raphael said.

“I smirked.” I had the looks and the money; women practically fell to their knees for a one-night stand with me. So when they offered me their bodies, who was I to reject? I like sex.

Entering the club, followed by Raphael, Sergio, and the other two guards, I noticed it was crowded. Moving to my VIP section, I nodded my head to Sergio; he knows what to do. I needed a quick fuck to clear my head. Raphael was already talking to a blonde girl on the dance floor.

Just then, a brunette caught my attention. She was sitting alone with about five empty shots in front of her. How the fuck did she maintain such long hair? She was wearing a very short red dress that looked like a second skin. Fuck that ass. my dick stirred, am hard, without even seeing her face.

I stood up to walk to her, right then Sergio came in with two ladies. “Boss, they’re here,” he said, looking at the ladies with cake-like makeup. “You can have them, Sergio,” I responded. I was more curious to see her face. “Boss, I thought you wanted to,” he said, cutting his sentence short. “I have changed my mind, Sergio. You can have them,” I responded.

“Damn; fuck that ass!” I turned to see Raphael staring at the brunette. “I thought you were talking to the blondie over there,” I said, looking at him with a dark look.

“Yeah. But I want this one,” he said.

“Don't go there, Raphael; she's mine tonight,” I said with authority.

“Yeah, yeah, you always get the hot ones. Do you know her?” he asked.

"I'm about to find out."

“See you when I see you,” he said, and with that, he was out of my sight.

I finally walked over to her and took a seat beside her. "Two shots of vodka," I addressed the guy behind the counter. "Sure thing, boss," he nodded and poured them out.

I placed one in front of her. She had her head bent down, looking at her phone. She took the vodka and drank it without turning to look at me

"So, what makes a beautiful lady to drink in a bar full of bad people alone?"That got her attention; she turned to look at me.

"Ah, fuck my life." If I was hard before, now I am painfully hard. She's fucking beautiful—the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.

"Are you a bad person?" she asked, looking at me with her beautiful brown eyes. I was so struck by her beauty that I was speechless. I have never been speechless in front of a lady before; I don't even know her name yet. I'm... I'm, hmmm, what the fuck? Now I'm stammering. Thank fuck Raphael and Sergio are not here; they would have laughed at their boss.

She's still looking at me, waiting for my reply.

What she said next made me go mute:

"Can we fuck?”

EMILY, HANNAH…Alex fell silent. For several seconds, neither of us spoke. Everything he had just told me about our past seemed to hang heavily in the air between us.Our past. The words still felt strange.Impossible.I had spent months believing I knew who I was. Believing I knew where I belonged. Believing I knew the people who had saved me, protected me, and given me a life after I woke up with nothing but an empty space where my memories should have been. And now Alex had shattered all of it.My mind refused to accept any of it.I stared at him, searching his face for a lie.Anything.One contradiction. One hesitation. One tiny crack that would prove he had been manipulating me.One reason to believe that everything he had just told me was an elaborate lie designed to make me turn against Roman and everyone else. But I couldn't find one.Alex looked exhausted. Not angry. Not triumphant. Not like a man who had finally gotten what he wanted. He looked broken. As though telling me t

EMILY, HANNAH...Alexander's voice became quieter. “The drugs aren't simply treating your headaches.”My stomach twisted.“What are you saying?”“They're affecting your brain.”I stared at him.“No.”“The medication suppresses neurological activity connected to memory formation and retrieval.”My breathing stopped.“That's why I can't remember.”He nodded.“It's not just because of the coma.”I stared down at the report.“Then what is it doing?”“Keeping you from remembering.”My hands began to shake.“Dr. Harrison told me they were for my headaches.”My voice cracked.“He said I shouldn't force my memories.”“He was right about one thing.”I looked at him.“You shouldn't force them.”“Then why?”“Because the medication was making sure you couldn't recover them naturally.”Tears burned behind my eyes.“So every time I thought my memories were gone…”“They were being suppressed.”I stared down at the report. The room suddenly felt too small.Everything I believed about my lif

EMILY, HANNAH…The first thing I felt was pain. A dull, throbbing ache pulsed behind my eyes, spreading slowly through my skull. Then came the heaviness,my entire body felt weak, as though I'd been asleep for days. I slowly opened my eyes. A ceiling stared back at me. White. Unfamiliar. For several seconds, I simply lay there, staring at it, trying to remember where I was. Then everything came rushing back. The accident. My breath caught. I remembered the accident from a year ago. Someone was beside me in the car. I remembered the sound of metal crushing against metal. The glass shattering around me. The pain. The panic. I had tried to move. I crawled out of the crushed car. I had wanted to call for help. And then, nothing.Everything had gone black. But now I remembered something else.Someone had hit me from behind. My heart began pounding.Fuck.Alexander.My eyes widened.I immediately pushed myself upright.Pain exploded through my head.I gasped and pressed a hand against my temp

EMILY, HANNAH ... “NO!”The car swerved violently. The steering wheel twisted beneath his lifeless hands. The vehicle left the road.Trees rushed toward us. “Fuck!”The car slammed into a tree, the impact threw me against the seat.Glass shattered.Metal groaned. For several seconds, everything went silent. My ears rang. My breath came in ragged gasps.Slowly, I opened my eyes. The driver was dead.Blood covered the front of the car. And then, Something flashed through my mind. A road. An impact. The violent screech of twisting metal.Glass exploding around me. A man's voice. A scream. My scream. My head suddenly throbbed. I gasped and grabbed my temple. The pain came without warning. Sharp. Brutal. It felt as though someone had driven a blade straight through my skull. “No…” I squeezed my eyes shut. My heart hammered against my ribs. I reached beneath my coat and pulled out my gun. My vision blurred. I tightened my grip. The moment I pushed against the door— Gunfire erup

EMILY, HANNAH The dining room was unusually quiet that morning. Sunlight streamed through the enormous windows, spilling across the long mahogany table and catching against the polished silverware. The soft clinking of utensils seemed almost too loud in the silence. I sat beside Mikhail, barely touching my breakfast. My mind was still somewhere else.Back in my room.Back with Roman's words.Don't trust Alexander. I hated that the more Roman told me not to trust him, the more questions seemed to rise inside me.Across the table, Roman calmly lifted his coffee cup. “I need you to know something, Mikhail.” Mikhail looked up. “Yes, Father?” “You'll be traveling to Florida today.” Mikhail nearly choked on his coffee. “What?” Roman didn't even blink. “Your private plane is already waiting.” Mikhail slowly lowered his cup, staring at his father in disbelief. “You're telling me this now?” “I didn't see the need to tell you earlier.” “Father, you couldn't have told me yesterday?”

EMILY, HANNAH The next morning, I woke up before sunrise. I hadn't slept much.Every time I closed my eyes, I saw him.Alexander.Standing in the burning room. Blood running down his shoulder. His eyes locked on mine. And that voice...Emily.I sat up and pressed my palms against my face.“This is ridiculous.”I needed to stop thinking about him.Roman had given me a mission, and I had failed. That was what mattered. Not Alexander. Not his eyes. Not the strange ache in my chest whenever I thought about him.I got out of bed and headed for the bathroom, but stopped when I passed the mirror.I stared at my reflection.Dark hair falling over my shoulders. Pale skin. Tired eyes.I touched the glass.“Who were you?”The question escaped before I could stop it.Not Who am I?Who were you?The woman staring back at me felt like a stranger.“Emily Hannah Grayson.”That was the name everyone knew me by.The woman I was supposed to be.And apparently, Alexander knew her.Maybe better than anyo
