Serena's POV

“What's the matter, Serena? Are you okay?” Mom asked after I finally settled into the chair next to her bed.

“I'm fine, Mom,” I replied with a shrug. “I'd have gotten flowers for you, but.. I forgot.”

“It's okay.” She smiled weakly. “What would I want more than for my daughter to be here next to my sick bed?”

I immediately felt guilty about her words. I know I hadn't been coming over as often as I had to, and to hear her put it that way sent a wave of guilt crashing over my body.

“I'm sorry, Mom..” I muttered. “I've just been... a little bit busy.”

“Busy?” She scoffed. “With what? Work? When last I heard, you were still without a job, Serena!”

Ouch..! That really stung but I wasn't to be blamed for that; I was just a miserable girl with an unfortunate history of bad luck.

“I'm working towards that,” I muttered, trying not to get annoyed at her words. I knew she didn't mean any offense.

“You've always been working towards that, Serena.” Mom sighed tiredly. “And how about yo

Serena's POVI wheeled around swiftly, and my hand felt for the pepper spray I knew I didn't carry. Within a second, I was already regretting why I had angrily set off alone without the protection that Myles offered. My eyes landed on the person who had spoken to me, and I felt relieved.“Detective Davies, right?” I forced a smile on my face. “Just call me Harry.” He stretched out a hand and I shook his hand warmly. The detective wasn't in uniform. He dressed in a loose Hawaiian shirt with sunglasses clipped to the breast pocket and had a can of diet soda in his hand.“I'm sorry I spooked you.” He apologized. “Didn't mean to do that.”“It's alright,” I replied with a tight nod. “I just wasn't expecting anyone to creep up on me like that.”“My bad.” He held both hands up, feigning surrender. “How's your husband, anyway? How's marriage?”I swallowed hard, and it felt like swallowing a large boulder. Marriage, husband.. these were strange words even for me, but for the sake of my future

Murphy's POVI stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the collar of my cut with the leather jacket bearing the insignia of the Dead Revenants biker gang. My mind was still brooding over the encounter at the restaurant earlier. Myles’ fucking smug face, his calm fucking demeanor, that goddamn arrogance—it burned in my chest the more I thought about all of it. That bastard thought he was untouchable. But he’d learn soon enough. Pain was a great teacher, and it seemed he wanted it.A soft moan from the bed pulled me from my thoughts. I glanced over my shoulder to see Victoria sprawled across the sheets with her naked body glistening from our earlier fuck. She was older than most women I bedded, but probably my very best fuck buddy. She was a proper milf, married to some corporate idiot who probably treated her like an afterthought. But I? I made sure she felt every fucking inch of what she’d been missing.“Leaving already?” she purred as she stretched lazily on the bed with her tits b

  • Saint by Day,Sinner by Night   CHAPTER 54

Serena's POV“Hey.. You're finally awake.” I smiled when I saw Myles standing there at the door.He looked really pissed off and threatening, almost as if he would suddenly launch forward and attack all of us. His employees cowered before his presence, but not me. I wasn't going to give him that satisfaction.“What do you all think you're doing?!” He growled, and then his gaze fell on Anna. “You.. how dare you abandon your desk for this.. whatever this is.” He waved dismissively.“Mr Voss.. I just.. I only wanted to.”“Save your apologies!” Myles snapped, putting an end to poor Anna's stuttering. “Save all your words for your next interview when you go out there looking for a job because you're all fired!”A collective gasp went up all at once. Anna looked like she would be crying the next minute, like working at Myles' company was like a lifeline for her, and she really needed it.“Oh, come on.” I rolled my eyes and stood up too. “He didn't really mean any of that,” I told his employ

  • Saint by Day,Sinner by Night   CHAPTER 53

Serena's POV“Myles?” I called slowly. “Did you really do it?” He still said nothing. Myles sat with his posture perfectly straight, staring ahead of him, even though he wasn't really looking at anything. He just stared ahead unblinkingly, and this gave me the creeps.I was too scared to ask again, so I kept quiet or rather, my lips kept quiet while my heart thumped quite loudly in my chest. I was too scared of the monster I had involved myself with. It was just for six months, right? Yeah, I'll just suck it up for six months and then leave his life for good. The car finally stopped in front of his office, and he got out immediately. He immediately began to walk up the stairs leading to the door, but he suddenly stopped, noticing that I wasn't behind him. He walked back to the car and stooped to peer in.“What are you doing?” He asked.“Waiting for the driver to take me home,” I replied.“No way.” He snapped. “I'm not risking you going back home without proper protection. I'll inform

  • Saint by Day,Sinner by Night   CHAPTER 52

Serena's POVThe hair on the back of my neck rose in horror at the man sitting calmly at the table with us. What had set out to be a moment of fun for me had suddenly turned into a horror story more likely.“Oh.. don't mind me.” Murphy grinned. “Feel completely at ease.”“What are you doing here?” Myles asked calmly. His composure surprised me. He didn't seem to be scared or angry, even in the slightest. He maintained his usual blank expression all through.“Just to talk,” Murphy replied. “I want no trouble.”“Don't mistake my question for fear.” Myles scoffed. “I didn't ask that out of fear. I know cowards like you are usually too scared of acting in public.”“Coming from the man who had his wedding reception shot up.” Murphy snarled.“Only you didn't succeed did you? I got one of your men, though.” “I only wanted to send a wedding salutation, nothing more, and the man you killed was just a prospect. He meant nothing to me. Now come on, Myles, are we really gonna do this in front o

  • Saint by Day,Sinner by Night   CHAPTER 51

Serena's POVHe looked like he was trying so hard to swallow a golf ball, and I admit, for a moment there, I thought I had overstepped my boundaries and gone too far. I thought he was going to slap me or something, but then he reached out and wrapped his hand on the partition glass.“Yes, Sir?” the driver's voice came through immediately the glass was lifted.“A slight change in plans,” Myles said. “Head over to the Silver Atrium instead.”“Understood, Sir.” The driver replied, and the partition glass came down again.I smiled but didn't say a word. I had gotten what I wanted. We were heading to the Silver Atrium, where he would be forced to eat even if it would be a small quantity, and then he'd rest, too.You must think that I picked the Silver Atrium because it was the most expensive and the most luxurious restaurant in the town. You must think I wanted to flaunt wealth or something, but no, that's not the case. The silver atrium was where even governors and presidents, and people
