29. "Things Up In Their Sleeves"

Harriet’s Point of View

"What did he just say? Love?" I murmured.

It felt like I was in a dream, as if a huge wave had swept me off my feet. I touched my cheek with the back of my hand and noticed that I was still blushing.

I took a moment to breathe deeply, trying to calm myself down.

"Because of him, my head was spinning with all kinds of weird ideas."

"I struggled to control my emotions, but they were bubbling up inside me."

My feelings were swirling around like a fish caught in a net, desperate to escape.

"His voice still echoes in my mind even now."

"Harriet?” Amelia's voice snapped me out of my thoughts. I glanced over at my stepmom, who was right beside me. The chaos caused by Lucas had finally settled down.

"Sorry, were you talking to me?" I inquired.

Amelia nodded and replied, "Yes, I've been trying to get your attention for a while now."

We were both seated under the shade with Alpha Connor, observing the skeet game between Lucas and Ethan.
