Chapter 2: Arrival

Kennedi's POV

"I plan on using your powers to get rid of werewolves and elves for good. It'll just be vampires when I'm done and then we'll go on a rampage and kill an abundance of humans; we'll keep some as slaves and blood bags and make them mate for survival. I'll also use your powers to bring the gods to Earth and steal their power," he said, "Well how does my plan sound?"

"Unbelievable," I said.

"Such a smart ass kid," he laughed.

"Language!"

He eyed me, "Are you seriously scolding me? I'm a million times older than you. Calm it, kiddo."

Ignoring his previous remark, I asked, "So what's your real agenda?"

"That's it," Valkon said.

"No it's not," I said.

"Why would I tell you my real plan? You'd just get in the way and do anything to stop my success," he quipped.

"How could I? I'm being kidnapped and taken away. Plus, I’m powerless! I’m a mere human,” I replied.

"You're right but I'm still not telling you. Ah! We're here! Sorry but I have to blind you and knock you out again," Valkon said.

He didn't even give me time to reply; my world went dark again while I suffocated.

~~

When I came to, I was lying in a small bed with tan cover. My vision was hazy and my head was pounding; I grabbed my temples and massaged them to the best of my ability.

I heard a clink sound and I looked up to see a figure coming forward to me. I rubbed my eyes and tried my best to rub the cloudiness away.

A tall man strode toward me with a food tray in hand. He handed me the tray with a bowl of soup and bread and a spoon; he left immediately after setting the tray beside me.

Even though I couldn't see aura right now, I could tell that he emitted deathly aura. His stern face told me that he was in no mood to have a conversation with a kid.

The metal chamber door shut with a loud thud, leaving me alone with the hot soup and the garlic bread.

Garlic? They must not care about their breath.

I picked up the spoon and timely, my stomach growled. I wondered how long I'd been asleep. What time is it? I'd have to get answers later.

I ate the soup and bread and then carefully cleaned my mouth by licking it. I set the utensils back into the tray and walked to the door. I knocked on the metal door and I instantly heard keys jangling; a slit at the bottom of the door opened.

Someone showed me their hand and told me, "Please slide your tray through the slit whenever you're done eating."

The voice sounded like a woman or a very frail boy. I did as they said and the slit closed immediately.

"Hey! Wait!" I beat on the door, but no one came to my service.

I retreated to the bed and rubbed my wrists; they were still sore from being bound and tied. I took this moment to observe my newfound surroundings.

The tan walls were lined with a few mere designs here and there; I shifted my gaze downwards. The bottom was nothing but a grey floor and I secretly was happy that I wore socks and shoes when I went outback that time.

I’d already examined the stiff bed and the spread that matched the wall. I shuddered at the thought that I’d be stuck here until Elias found me. Thinking about the bleak room and my kidnapping made me sad.

I lied down to keep myself from getting a headache. I couldn’t help but to close my eyes for a second. Despite the spread looking unclean, it smelled of laundry detergent— like it had just been washed. I smiled at this; it gave me a slight sense of hope.

~

A while later, I opened my eyes. I must have drifted off to sleep for a nap. When I opened my eyes, I heard the door of death struggle open with a loud creak.

In came a woman in a dingy white dress and a black apron with a white bonnet on her head. She walked up slowly to me and gave me a shy smile. She was pretty despite her clothes. Her brown eyes had a speck of orange in them.

Her brunette hair was in a bun and her flat nose complemented her medium skin; a dark beauty mole shown beside her mouth on the right. A blush crept upon her face and that’s when I realized I was staring.

“Sorry,” I said.

She replied, “No need. Let’s get you bathed, yes?”

She came forward and grabbed my hand, leading me out of my death chamber into the hallway of guards. My guess was that they were also vampires; as we walked past, the judgement in their eyes shown brightly.

I could tell they wanted a taste of my blood at any cost; some wanted to kill me and some thought my existence was just futile at best. They expressed their feelings through their face.

I only came across one guard who was neither in contempt or approval. He gave a nod when we past by and I smiled at him. This shocked him, as he was taken aback, but he quickly gave me a smile back. I saw his fangs and they were admittedly smaller than Valkon’s, but his smile added to my already faint amount of hope.

We turned right at a corner and she led me inside a dark room that lit up once we stepped foot inside. She locked the door after closing it and came closer to me.

I knew what she was going to do but I swiftly stopped her.

“I can undress myself,” I said.

“Right. I’m sorry. I’m nervous since I haven’t had a kid in a while,” she said.

She didn’t give me the chance to ask questions and proceeded to run my lukewarm bath water. She gave me a towel and a bar of soap then left.

I wondered how old was she exactly. She looked like she was twenty so there was no way that she’d been around for other kids; I mean, to me, she looked like she just came out of college.

I undressed after she left and stepped into the water. I cleaned myself thoroughly, taking my time without rush. The woman came back in as soon as I let the water out of the tub.

She was surprised and immediately turned her back. I laughed at her. In this moment, she reminded me of Florence the first time I could ever remember her seeing me naked.

“Where are my clothes?” I asked.

“They are next door. I will walk you there.”

“Wait! What about the guards?” I asked.

“They’ve been relieved while you change. There’s no need to be shy,” she answered.

She beckoned me forward and led me next door. In this white room was nothing but a closet and a bright wooden chair. The woman went to the closet and picked out a pair of pajamas for me.

She gave them to me and I put them on quickly. After that, she took my dirty clothes away and stuffed them into a white hamper in a corner of the room. I then looked down at my toes. Would she give me a pair of socks?

Sensing that I needed her, she turned her head.

“What’s your name? It’s weird to keep referring to you as some lady,” I revealed.

“You may call me Bethany, Miss. I’ve been assigned to be your caretaker as long as you’re here.”

“Oh. Well my name is Kennedi; it’s nice to meet you, Bethany. I hope this leads to a great friendship,” I said.

She gasped, “Of course, Miss.”

I politely asked, “May I have a pair of socks, Bethany?”

She nodded and found a pair of socks that would fit me.

We went back to the bathroom and she gave me a newly wrapped toothbrush. She waited on me while I brushed my teeth; she then cleaned the bathroom and placed my toothbrush into a holder.

After her task was completed, I was led back down the Hallway of Doom into my chamber of death. Bethany wished me a goodnight and left me to drift off to sleep.

I cried myself to sleep thinking of Elias and the desperate situation I was in.

Will I ever be saved?
