Chapter 162

Jefferson looked up as Homer turned, and their eyes met like two pairs of puzzles finding their right spot in a large picture; it just happens, and no one can avoid it.

"I'm sorry," said Jefferson.

Homer's eyes soften, and for a moment, his mind wanders, wishing they didn't have to be so far apart.

Everyone can see it clearly; they see other people in the look in Homer's eyes.

Before finally, when Homer blinked and his eyes sharpened again, he entered his room and disappeared when the door was closed.

Jefferson lowered his head while Hugo picked him up and brought him back to his bedroom.

Hugo also tells Max to call a doctor because he fears something terrible might happen to him if he doesn't get proper care; Hugo isn't done with him yet.

While Owen and Hayden walked behind Max and Cadman, who gleefully laughed at each other. Neither of them spoke until they met Jasper in the dining room.
