Kaidaira's POV

"You'll be the death of me," he said.

Of course I will, the death, the end, the doom. I'll be everything.

I let Thane kiss me, let him drown in the illusion that I was his, that I wanted this as much as he did.

His lips were demanding, hungry, and for a brief moment, I almost let myself melt into it... Almost.

But this wasn’t about love. This was about control, about making him fall so deeply into the palm of my hand that he wouldn’t see the knife coming when I finally drive it into his back.

I pulled away first, my breaths uneven. Thane’s eyes were dark, his hands gripping my waist as if he didn’t want to let me go.

"I should go," I murmured, brushing my lips teasingly close to his ear before pulling back completely.

Thane growled lowly, his grip tightening for a moment before he let me slip away.
