ANA’S POV

Somewhere at the back of my head, they could recognize me. They were looking like shells of themselves. Where were their plastic smiles? Why wasn’t it there?

I found myself holding my breath. They barely glanced at me as they walked past. I was hurt. I felt myself exhale quickly. My legs were shaky. The world was spinning. I wished I had braced myself up for something like this. My mind was getting filled up with memories of me and them together. Playing at the park together, having breakfast together, going to the market together. Every single nice memory that I had with them. I shut my eyes, trying to stop it all from coming. I just couldn’t.

I felt a hand on my shoulder, and I flinched immediately, turning back.

“Hey, calm down. It’s just me,” Len said, placing his hands on the small of my back. I felt the sweat dripping down my back. He frowned, as he looked me over. “Are you okay?”

I nodded, with my legs and hands shaking. I didn’t know how I was supposed to stop pani

ANA’S POVI turned back, meeting the eyes of my mother that I could never erase from my memory. Ever. There was a small smile on her face that faded immediately she saw me. I felt my throat closing up again. Wasn’t there a thing where parents recognized their kids no matter how they tried to disguise? Why wasn’t my mom holding me yet? Why wasn’t she crying as she patted my hair? Why wasn’t she telling me that she wanted to apologize for all the times that she ignored me all through my childhood? That she was sorry for not listening to me when I complained about things?Instead, she was staring straight into my eyes, and I found myself raising my chin. She couldn’t see me sad or weak. It didn’t matter if she didn’t recognize me or not. I was still Anna somewhere in my head. “My daughter used to come here a lot,” she said, and I couldn’t even hold back my snort. Why was she suddenly trying to talk to Selene like she knew all about me? She frowned as she

I looked up just in time to see Logan trying to leave the room. “Where are you going?” I whispered, trying not to wake Len up. It was the first time I had seen Len without a frown on his forehead. He looked so peaceful, with his lashes casting a shadow on his face. I held myself back from running my hands through the contours of his lips. “I didn't want to wake you up. I was in the mood for a hunt.”I frowned. “You hunt?”“Yes. And you seem to have no interest in it. Ever.”It was almost as if Logan had already accepted the fact that I had forgotten a few things. I was glad that I didn't have to be explaining things to him. “Oh,” I said, standing up. How could Selene never have interest in something so exciting? “Well, I think I'm ready to learn now. Can I join in?”A huge smile appeared o

ANA'S POV “What do you mean ‘shift’?” I asked, looking at Logan with my eyes wide. He frowned, looking into my eyes, like he never wants to look away. “Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten how to shift as well.” I might have done it before, but that was because I was under pressure. I didn't know how I was supposed to do it again. “Of course I remember,” I said, slapping his hand and letting out a fake laugh. “It’s something I’ve done for years.”He exhaled. “Well, if you’re having a hard time doing it, you can just calm down, breathe in and out, connect with your wolf, and let her take over.” Then he paused. “After you woke up, your wolf has been speaking to you, right?”“More than ever,” I said, remembering every single one of Selene’s taunting. Just as if she could feel it, she shushed me. “Now, keep quiet and let me take control.” I nodded, breathing in and out just as Logan had asked me to. I could feel my limbs curling into fists on their own accord, with

ANA'S POV I stood right in the middle of the garden, watering my plants that I myself had planted. In a pack like this, the garden was the only place that I seemed to find solitude. Except in the company of Logan and Len of course. I was so attached to them, that I didn't even allow the maids to water them for me. I made sure to water every part of it, and transplant the ones that needed it. I took my gloves off, and stood back to admire my work. “Selene!” I heard someone scream, making me turn back immediately. Who screamed my name like that?I turned to listen. Someone screamed my name again. Just then, a peculiar scent hit my nose. I wanted to ignore it so bad, but I knew that it wasn't from any of our pack members. It was definitely another wolf nearby. But there was a voice in the back of my head, forcing me to urge further. I followed the scent and before I knew it, I was heading out of the back gates. I looked back, wanting to head back to my garden. I wanted to go back to o

ANA’S POVIf I couldn’t provide an heir for the pack just yet, but I could at least fulfil the other duties that I was supposed to do. Len had just informed me about the fact that I had barely gone through any of the pack business’ files. All the alliances and contracts that were supposed to be signed. It was almost as if all the time that I had been doing other things was a sort of break. Logan was nice enough to lead me right to the place where the said office was. If I wasn’t around him all the time, I would have guessed that he already knew that I wasn’t the actual Selene. I was scared to walk in myself when he was there. He held his hands in the air, and gave a sweet smile. “I’d leave you to it. I need to investigate the murdered assassins anyway.”I nodded, and watched him leave. I peeked into the room. It was almost the same thing as whatever they said Selene might like. The room was almost monochrome. Most of the things were in white. Only the cupboards and tables were spare

ANA’S POVI followed Selene’s natural instincts chasing the shadow running further into an abandoned area of the pack house that I didn't know existed. The speed Selene had was all new to me, surprising me with each step. As I finally got to the wall at the very end of the west wing, I realized I had been led to a dead end somehow and no one was there. I was about to turn back when I heard a little movement at the other end of the hall. The shadow passed again, quicker this time. I quickly followed it, quietly this time, holding my breath. This time I was being led outside the pack house. A part of me screamed that this was a trap. An obvious one but at this moment I didn't care. I needed to find out the truth.I followed the shadow outside, walking past the gates. I continued following the shadow, making sure to keep my eyes on it even if there were countless other shadows from the trees in the woods. I looked up for some reason, recognizing the particular place that Selene had lai

LOGAN'S POV The scream that I heard was unmistakably Anna's. I hurried to the backyard, where the other maids said they were earlier. I wasn't wrong. She was still screaming, while Selene stood there in shock, staring at a cat that laid on the floor… dead. Selene managed to compose herself, as she pulled Anna to herself, trying to comfort the little girl. “What happened?” I asked, and she stared at me, giving me a weird look. “The scones that the maid brought were fucking poisoned. Anna and I almost ate them. Anna would have been in that cat's position.” I heard her voice falter at the end. Even at a time like this, she wasn't even thinking about herself. Why the fuck will she want to eat something that a stranger had given her? What if something else had happened? What if they hadn't fed it to the cat first? “Why would you have something a stranger gave to you?” I asked, and she frowned, holding Anna closer. “You sent her to give them to me,” she said in an accusing tone, and I

ANA'S POV I looked at myself one more time in the mirror. On a normal day, I might have been happy that I looked stunning putting on a burgundy dress that clung to my skin and black heels that screamed elegance. My hair was in a rough bun at the top of my head, and I allowed the loose curls to frame my face. I went with the most minimal amount of makeup which was lipgloss and eyeliner. That was the best I could do. I didn't want to go to that party anyway. For Anna. I continuously whispered. I grabbed my black bag as I headed out. I was thankful that I didn't get to see Len or Logan on my way out. If not, I would have been throwing my shoes off my feet immediately. I spotted Zach's black car as soon as I got outside. He was sitting inside, with his eyes on me like a predator. I opened the door myself, and got in. Somewhere at the back of my mind, I didn't want to start comparing him to Len or Logan and their gentlemanliness. “Good evening, Alpha Selene,” he said in a voice that m
