Sophia Invites Amber to Dinner

Author: Katherine
(Sophia's POV)

I woke up with my head pounding like someone was using my skull for drum practice. The nightmares that had plagued me all night left a sour taste in my mouth. Images of Dominic turning away from me were still fresh in my mind.

"Good morning, sunshine," Zara Jenkins said, her voice too cheerful as she yanked open the curtains of my hotel room.

I groaned and pulled the covers over my head. "Go away."

"Can't do that. We have important business." Zara never took no for an answer. It was what made her good at her job, and occasionally insufferable.

"Unless that business involves painkillers and coffee, I'm not interested." My voice came out muffled beneath the blankets.

Zara placed a steaming cup on my nightstand along with two pills. "Already handled. Now sit up. I've got information."

I reluctantly emerged from my cocoon of blankets and swallowed the pills, washing them down with coffee that was exactly how I liked it—strong and black.

"I found out who she is," Zara

  • Second Chance Luna Mated to Ex's Uncle   Harrison's Calculations

(Third-person's POV)Melanie Chase returned to the pack house with slumped shoulders and a defeated expression. The meeting with Amber had gone worse than expected, and now she had to face her mate with the bad news.Harrison was waiting in his study, pacing anxiously. When he saw Melanie's face, his expression darkened."She refused?" he asked, though he already knew the answer.Melanie nodded, sinking into a chair. "It was a disaster. She threatened to call you about how I 'insulted the future Alpha King's mate.'"Harrison's face contorted with rage. He slammed his fist against the mahogany desk, causing a crack to form along its polished surface."You were supposed to appeal to her as her mother!" he roared. "Not antagonize her further!""She brought up Victoria and Henry's relationship," Melanie defended weakly. "What was I supposed to do?"Harrison ran his hands through his graying hair. "Reporter Hunter is being released from the hospital tomorrow. We're running out of ti

  • Second Chance Luna Mated to Ex's Uncle   She's pampering someone else

(Amber's POV)I gazed at Dominic across the breakfast table, unable to hide my smile. The morning sunlight filtered through the windows, casting a warm glow over his sharp features."You know," I said, setting down my coffee cup, "I was just about to ask Henry for a share of Victoria's pack rights in exchange for his help with the Moonlight Realty crisis."Dominic raised an eyebrow. "And how did that go?"I grimaced. "He hung up on me. Quite angrily, I might add.""I'm not surprised," Dominic replied, cutting into his venison with precise movements. "Your brother has always been quick to anger.""Unlike you," I teased, leaning forward. "You've never hung up on me, even when I'm being difficult."A small smile played at the corners of his mouth. "I have more patience than most."I reached across the table, pointing to his hand. "You have a piece of venison stuck there."Dominic glanced down, then gently wiped it away with his napkin. The simple, domestic moment made my heart sw

  • Second Chance Luna Mated to Ex's Uncle   Amber, something's happened to the bag

(Amber's POV)I woke up feeling surprisingly refreshed despite yesterday's ordeal. The digital clock on my nightstand showed 8:00 p.m. I stretched lazily, wincing slightly as my shoulder protested the movement.Dominic wasn't beside me. The sheets on his side of the bed were cold, indicating he'd been gone for some time.I sat up, noticing a note on his pillow. His elegant handwriting informed me he had some urgent pack business to attend to and would return as soon as possible. He'd added a simple "Rest well, little wolf" at the end that made my heart flutter. My stomach growled, reminding me I'd skipped lunch. I slipped into my robe and made my way downstairs, following the delicious aroma wafting from the kitchen.Florence Harper, our housekeeper, looked up from the stove as I entered. "Good evening, Miss Amber. I've prepared some venison stew for you.""It smells amazing, Florence," I said gratefully. She ladled a generous portion into a bowl, her motherly expression softeni

  • Second Chance Luna Mated to Ex's Uncle   No Need to Compensate Me Anymore

(Amber's POV)As we left Sophia's hospital room, I collapsed against Dominic's chest, my usual strength deserting me. The familiar scent of him—pine and moonlight—wrapped around me like a protective blanket. My wolf, Cora, whimpered beneath my skin, seeking comfort from Leo, Dominic's powerful wolf."I've got you," he murmured, his arms tightening around me.I winced as pain shot through my shoulder, and Dominic immediately loosened his grip, concern darkening his blue eyes."Let's get you checked properly," he said, guiding me toward the examination room where a doctor waited. The doctor—a middle-aged beta wolf with kind eyes—examined my shoulder with gentle hands. "A clean dislocation," he announced after reviewing the x-rays. "Fortunately, no fractures or ligament damage. You were lucky, Ms. Chase."Lucky wasn't exactly how I'd describe being thrown against a wall by drunk wolves, but I nodded anyway."I want to go to the police station," I said as Dominic helped me into my j

  • Second Chance Luna Mated to Ex's Uncle   Amber's Complaint

(Amber's POV)The hospital corridor felt endless as I made my way back from Mason's room. My bodyguard and driver had taken the worst of the attack, and seeing him lying there, tubes snaking from his arms, made my stomach twist with guilt.I paused outside Sophia's VIP room, gathering my strength. My ribs ached with each breath, and my shoulder throbbed where I'd been thrown against the wall. Cora, my wolf, paced restlessly beneath my skin, still agitated from the attack. When I pushed open the door, Zara Jenkins was already there, her sharp features contorted with fury. Sophia sat on the edge of the bed, her beautiful face partially covered by bandages."There she is," Zara spat, turning on me. "The reason my client's face is now ruined."I stepped back as if she'd physically struck me. "Excuse me?""Don't play innocent," Zara advanced toward me, her rust-colored wolf energy radiating aggression. "Do you have any idea what you've done? Sophia is the lead in Iris Maple's new supe

  • Second Chance Luna Mated to Ex's Uncle   Come to the Hospital to Pick Me Up

(Felix's POV)I cleared my throat, standing at the entrance to Dominic's office. This wasn't news I wanted to deliver, especially not with an audience present."Mr. Blackwood, Miss Winters and Luna have met," I said, keeping my voice steady despite the gravity of the situation.Dominic's head snapped up, his blue eyes instantly sharpening with alarm. Too late, I noticed Henry Chase sitting across from him, his expression curious at my boss's sudden tension."When? Where?" Dominic demanded, rising from his chair."Approximately forty minutes ago at Moonhaven Bistro," I replied, cursing my oversight in speaking so openly.Henry leaned forward. "Is something wrong? Perhaps I can help—""No," Dominic cut him off sharply. "Felix, call Ryan immediately."I nodded, already pulling out my phone. "I've tried reaching Luna, but her phone goes straight to voicemail."Henry's eyes darted between us, clearly sensing the emergency. "Who is Miss Winters? Is Amber in danger?"I winced at my

(Amber's POV)My morning at Moonlight Photography began with the familiar comfort of routine—checking equipment, reviewing schedules, and sipping my first coffee of the day. Then my phone rang, disrupting the quiet."Amber Chase speaking," I answered professionally."Good morning, Ms. Chase. This is Charles Blackwood." The voice was smooth and cultured, carrying the unmistakable Blackwood confidence. My back straightened instinctively. "Mr. Blackwood. What can I do for you?""I'm calling regarding a photography project for the Werewolf Orphan Charity. We're working with a television network and require professional services." His tone was polite but carried the expectation of compliance typical of Blackwoods.I smiled, remembering Dominic's words from weeks ago: "Charles will call eventually. Don't let him intimidate you.""I'd be happy to discuss the project," I replied, keeping my voice steady. "Would you be available to meet at Shadowpeak this afternoon? Say, three o'clock?"

  • Second Chance Luna Mated to Ex's Uncle   Dominic's Unusual Behavior

(Ryan's POV)I watched Sophia Winters walk down the yacht ramp, her shoulders slumped in defeat. Her usual grace was missing, replaced by the heavy steps of someone whose dreams had just been crushed."Sophia," I called after her. "This is the last time I'll help you with this."She turned, her face a mask of controlled pain. "What do you mean?""Keep your distance from Dominic in the future. My fiancée is good friends with his Luna, and I'm friends with Amber myself." I crossed my arms. "I don't want to feel sorry for my friends because of you."Sophia gave me a look that made my skin crawl. It wasn't anger or sadness—it was calculation. The expression only aggravated my already foul mood."You have your own career. Focus on that," I added firmly. She didn't respond, just turned and continued walking away.My wolf stirred restlessly under my skin. This whole situation reminded me of my encounter with Liam at Moonlight Photography last week. I'd gone there hoping to discuss Sha
