Chapter 2

“What are the little things that always make your day better?” Carson asked the lady before him.

She was dressed in an off-shoulder, long black gown hugging her slim body, her hair falling to her shoulders, and her collarbone exposed for the gentleman to view.

They were on a date at R&W restaurant, a place for the perfect romantic date. Carson was dressed in ripped jeans trousers and a white polo.

“Well, that should be waking up early” Amelia replied, “I hate it when I wake up late, it ruins the rest of my day” she added with her chin slightly raised, and lips in a slight tug. Her hand stirred the glass of wine she held gently

“And what time is your early?” He asked with his eyes carefully watching her.

“That should be 5 am” she responded with a smile

“Wow, impressive. I don't wake up early at all” Carson admitted as he sipped from the glass only for him to hear her say,

“When we get married, I won't take that from you. We'll be waking up before 6 am”.

He almost choked on his drink, but instead cleared his throat,

“Really?” He asked with raised brows and a soft chuckle escaped his lips.

“Yes. That's laziness and reluctance to work speaking” she explained. Carson only watched and hummed

He picked up his phone and typed something on it before dropping it back down on the table. His fingers tapped on the table as he smiled at her,

“You're chatting?” She asked with a frown as she pointed at his phone,

“Of course not, that's a bad thing to do on a date” he replied with a cheeky grin and she nodded,

“Thought you didn't know”

“So, Amelia… what are we talking about next while we wait for the food,” he asked

“What is your favorite movie?” She asked and he smiled,

“Hmmm, that should be Merlin,” he replied with sparkling eyes but she didn't look pleased.

As she opened her mouth to speak, his phone began to ring and that same minute, the waiter dropped their food in front of them. Carson picked up the call,

“Hm Nick” he called out with a straight face.

“Sorry man, I can't come over,” his friend Nick said to him and he simply asked,

“What happened?” He eyed the girl in front of him, who had a deep frown on her face,

“It's the patient earlier, she escaped,”

“What?” Carson asked as he stood to his feet. He didn't let Nick explain further, he said,

“I'm on my way”

When Carson ended the call, he quickly apologized,

“I'm so, so sorry but—”

“You didn't ask to be excused before you picked up your call, and we are on a date” she pointed out and Carson almost chuckled,

“Well, you'll be excusing me now” he sneered.

“What? Where are you going?” She glared at him, her frown deeper than before.

“A bit of an issue in the office,” he informed her. Not like there was a need to explain further. He already began to root some cash for their meal that he never touched.

“Oh well, I'll let you leave today. It won't be accepted after marriage. I can't be having a dinner date with my husband and then work comes up” she clarified as she stood up and straightened her gown.

Amusement danced in Carson's eyes when he heard her words. He should have expected this of her, he decided to explain calmly,

“Sorry darling, but there won't be a next time”

“What?” she asked like she didn't understand. Her hands gripped the side of her gown tightly

“First date, final date” he assured her before walking out of her sight and out of the restaurant.

“Stupid blind date! Silly girl! What a waste of time” Each word he spat in anger as he stomped into the car.

He pulled his phone out of his pocket before calling his friend again,

“Hey man,” he breathed in and out as he tried not to let the girl ruin his mood.

“Were you serious about your patient, or were you helping me out of my situation?” He asked the moment the call went through as he ignited the engines of his car.

“I'm damn serious. I only remembered your request when I saw your text. Is she that bad? What the hell was, 'I don't like her, get me out of this mess'?" Nick chuckled.

“Yes she is and I left already” Carson replied

“How did… what did you tell her?” he asked in curiosity

“I have a bit of a situation in the office. She is a pretender”

“Hey Attorney, every lady is a pretender to you” Nick rolled his eyes

“This one is a real bitch. She is already talking about marriage on our first blind date”

Nick's deep and melodious voice rang through the phone as he burst into laughter.

"Shut up, Nick" Carson cussed and Nick let out another chuckle,

“Oh Christ, save my soul. Are you serious?”

“You really saved me once again. I'll call Grandfather and explain to him that this can't keep going on. These ladies are all the same, sluts,” he clicked his tongue.

There was a bit of silence before he asked,

“What was it about your patient?” and Nick quickly exploded,

“She wasn't found in her room when we wanted to give her the evening treatment. The security men are on it though, but gosh, I'm so pissed at her. After saving her damn ass, she did this to me?”

Carson could feel Nick's anger, he sighed,

“Hey, calm down, I'm sure she'll be back. You said there's never a time she doesn't come to the hospital, right? Besides, that asshole might just come to pay the…” he paused.

“Can I call you back, Nick?” He asked. Nick didn't respond and just hung up. He was really pissed

Carson, with a frown, stared at the lone figure on the bridge who could be seen ready to commit suicide. He couldn't see her face properly, but he could sense that she was nervous,

“He committed suicide”

“He committed suicide”

Those words rang in his memory and his eyes darkened. He massaged his temples before taking several breaths with his eyes closed.

Taking another deep breath, he came down from his car and made his way to the front of it. He sat down on the bonnet and crossed his legs, with his eyes fixed on the girl, he spat,

“Jump!”

The lady snapped her eyes to look at who it was that spoke, and she was faced with a handsome young man. His hair was combed backward with only a few hanging above his face, his hands in his jean pocket and his long legs crossed. From where she stood, she could see him properly,

“Jump!” He encouraged her with a louder voice this time.

“What do you want?” She asked in a hoarse tone. Everyone who had seen her here had simply passed, why was he sitting there?

“Waiting for you to jump down the bridge and die. Go on, end it” he requested. Although he couldn't see her clearly, he could tell that she was nervous as hell.

She closed her eyes but held onto the rail behind her tighter. Carson shook his head,

“That's not how to do it. You don't hold on to the rail. You let it go and just fall. Think of heaven, it's easier that way” he explained, and she squinted her eyes at him.

“Wait, I'm coming. I'll teach you how it's done” he pushed himself from the car and began walking towards her.
