Chapter 5

Feeling the soft mattress under her, Lydia hummed and moved comfortably on her bed. After a while, she opened her eyes and looked around at the unfamiliar room, and began to wonder where she was.

Her body ached, and her stomach grumbled in hunger. Still, on the bed, she began to recall all that happened.

She looked around to confirm whether she was in prison or not. A smile formed on her lips, she was so happy that she not only did not die last night, but she also didn't sleep in jail.

With a groan, she tried to stand up from the bed when she heard a lady's cry from outside, and she furrowed her brows. She slowly got up from the bed before making her way to the door. She noticed her hospital gown had been changed to a big gown.

As she walked she thought, what was she thinking, he must have a wife, and the woman might be having an argument with him right now because he had brought a lady to their house. She needs to clarify things.

Slowly, she traced her way to where the noise was coming from, outside the house. The scene she met caused her to freeze in her spot.

She saw a lady on her knees begging the same man who had helped her last night.

“Carson, come on. You know I love you. Your grandfather—”

“Then you'll have to go marry my grandfather, Darling,” Carson replied coldly, not giving the woman a face. He was standing close to the woman.

“Can you get out of here whatever your name is? I don't want to see your face here in my compound again” he said again, but Amelia didn't move. She remained on her knees,

“Carson, I love you. I swear I do” she continued to plead.

“I don't love you. I don't know you, I don't want to have anything to do with you. Get lost now that I'm being nice” he stated, trying to suppress his anger. He was typing away on his phone, ignoring her act.

Amelia stood to her feet, she had shed tears and was about to say something when her eyes landed on Lydia who was standing by the door.

Lydia gasped when she knew who the lady is. She is a famous actress in the movie industry. She could not believe that she was seeing Amelia Jackson here in the man's house begging to be loved. The lady was too graceful and beautiful, she was dressed in a blue body hug gown that was up to her knees and her straight blonde was let to fall on her shoulders.

“You!” Amelia yelled, causing Lydia to flinch. She turned to look behind if there was someone behind her, but there was none.

“You're the damn reason Carson isn't looking my way, right?” She asked, pointing at Lydia, who began to move backward with her hands in front of her as she shook her head.

"No, no, no" she shook her head and her hands moving backwards.

"Yes, she's the one. So what?" Carson asked and the anger in Amelia erupted.

Carson didn't let Amelia get close to Lydia, he pulled her by the wrist and dragged her, pulling her towards the gate,

“Now, that's it. I won't let you speak to my visitor in such a manner. Go back and tell my grandfather that he should marry you Instead because I am not interested” he spat. He continued to pull her, not caring about her screams and cries. He added,

“I will never be interested in marriage. You ladies are to be fucked and that's all. The earlier it settles into your thick skull, the better for you, missy"

“Throw her out!” He yelled at the security man who helped the woman out of the compound.

“Bitch!” He spat in rage before turning around to see Lydia staring at him intensively. Her face was stained in tears.

She heard every word that he said and somehow, she found herself in the same position the girl was in. George did exactly this to her, and she could not help but shiver in fear, praying and hoping that this man doesn't beat her up as she lives with him for a while.

“How was your night?” She flinched when she heard his voice very close to her. She staggered back and stepped on her big gown. She almost fell, but he caught her.

Lydia got to stand properly before moving away from him with great speed. He saw the fear in her eyes. Her breathing was heavy, and she couldn't look up at his face, he sighed.

“I don't know her. She was arranged by my grandfather…” he tried to explain as he didn't want her to think he was the same as the asshole of a man she married.

Lydia only nodded as she quickly wiped her tears away. She let out a small smile,

“Good morning Mr.….”

“Carson. Just call me Carson” he said as he entered the living room with her following behind.

“Good morning Carson, I'm Lydia”

“Yes, Doctor Nick told me last night when you fainted. He was the one who treated you again. Your bill just went higher” he announced to her with a straight face.

Lydia sucked in her lower lip before she murmured,

“I'll pay. I'll get a job, and I'll pay” She looked at Carson, “Can you help me tell him that?”

Carson shook his head and headed to the kitchen, she followed behind. Remembering she had a question to ask, she looked at him,

"I'm sorry to ask but…" she paused as she didn't know how to place the question that it won't upset the man,

"Go on. I'm listening" he said.

"I wanted to ask, do you… are you married?"

She saw Carson smile,

"No. Bachelor to the bones" he chuckled causing her to let out a little laugh too.

After a while of silence, he said to her,

“I'll be your lawyer,” making her raise her head to look at him,

“Pardon?”

“Let's say, I didn't introduce myself well enough. I am Bachelor Attorney Carson Walter, one of the best lawyers in New York City” he flashed her a million dollar smile and went back to making some coffee.

“I… I… I'm grateful… I don't know what to say” she breathed out when she registered what he meant. She felt like some weight had been lifted off her shoulders.

“Thank you?” He asked, and she smiled brightly pushing all that she had just witnessed him do to a lady behind her.

“Thank you, thank you so much, Carson”

“You're wel—”

“Daddy!” A tiny little voice was heard loud from the living room.

Lydia furrowed her brows as she stood up from the kitchen stool only for a tiny figure to rush into the kitchen after a while.

"Daddy!" The little boy rushed to Carson.

"Don't run Gary, you might fall" Lydia heard a lady's voice from the living room and she froze.
