Chapter 6

Lydia watched as a pretty lady walked into the kitchen. She was dressed in black trousers and a sky-blue top, she tucked her top into her trousers. She was looking so pretty that even Lydia could not get her eyes off her.

She had the aura of miss gorgeous and her hair was pinned so beautifully.

Lydia opened her mouth to speak, but no words seemed to come out of her mouth. She couldn't help but marvel. What she didn't understand is why Carson would lie that he wasn't married when he had such a beauty as a wife.

“Marian, you're late,” Carson said with a calm voice. And I noticed he was speaking to the lady.

He carried the little boy in his arms as he observed the lady.

“I'm sorry, Mr. Carson. The traffic was bad after going to pick up Gary from Grandpa. He made me wait because Gary wanted some cookies from Miranda” she explained so fluently that Lydia kept blinking at how good the girl was.

“That's okay if it's for Gary, why not?” He dropped the smiling boy on the counter before asking him,

“How was your night with Grandpa?” Gary nodded as he stretched his hand for Carson to pick him up, which the man did immediately.

Meanwhile, Marian kept observing Lydia, who had moved her eyes quickly to look at Gary and Carson instead. She smiled when she saw how the two of them played.

She wanted to ask Carson why he lied about having a family, but she waited and decided to do so after Marian and Gary had left the kitchen.

What Lydia had missed was that Marian had called Carson, Mr. Carson, and not just Carson, meaning it was nothing as she thought.

“Where are my manners?” Carson quickly gestured to Lydia,

“Lydia meet Marian, Gary's nanny. Marian meet Lydia, a client of mine”

“Hello”

“Hi,” Marian replied before walking out of the kitchen. Lydia could tell that the girl didn't like her, and it made her wonder why. She didn't do anything wrong.

Staring at Carson, she wondered who then was the mother of his son, Gary. It was a relief to her that, at least, Marian wasn't his wife or girlfriend, she didn't want anything that would cause trouble for Carson.

“Hello, Gary?” Lydia smiled at the boy, and he smiled back at her.

Carson saw their connection and asked Gary,

“Do you like her?” And he nodded before walking over to Lydia. He pulled raised his arms for Lydia to pick him up, and she quickly did.

Her heart swore with joy when Gary hugged her tightly. Soon they were talking to each other with Gary's baby's voice about his great-grandfather.

Carson sat there watching how Lydia was able to understand what the little boy was saying, but the funny thing was, she understood him clearly.

“Mr. Carson, may I ask who Gary's mother is?” She turned from Gary to look at Carson, whose face immediately switched from a smile to a cold and Stony one.

“There is no need for you to know. If you cannot be friends with Gary without knowing his mother, you should let go now”

“Oh no. Forgive me” she quickly apologized.

“I didn't mean to anger you, I was just curious. I won't ask anymore. And as for Gary, he is already my best friend”

The little boy giggled when Lydia touched his tiny nose with a finger. He wiggled out of her lap before rushing out of the kitchen. She frowns wondering what she did wrong only for him to run back with a box wrapped.

“Open” he whined. And she narrowed her eyes at him,

“You want me to open this for you?” And the little boy nodded.

“How did you hear what he was saying?” Carson asked in shock. He has been watching them both, and he is amazed at how Lydia is so good with the child.

She shrugged, “Don't you?” She asked and he shook his head.

“Can I open this for him before he begins to cry?” She asked Carson and he nodded,

“I think that's his cookies given to him by his great-grandfather, so yes, you can open It”

When Lydia opened the box, she passed the entire box to Gary, who dropped it on the ground before picking two cookies from the box.

He rushed to give Lydia one,

“Awwwn, my sweet boy, thank you” She took it and kissed his cheeks. He giggled before rushing to give the other cookie to Carson,

“Thanks, boy” Carson caressed his hair.

Gary rushed to the box of cookies and sat down to eat the remaining ones by himself. It was while he was eating that Marian came back.

“Gary!” She literally screamed, causing the boy to flinch.

“How can you eat that now? You have not brushed your teeth, you have not had your bath, and you have not eaten any food yet. You shouldn't be eating that now”

Lydia saw how the little boy's eyes had turned teary,

“Now, give that to me” She marched towards Gary ready to take the box of cookies, but Gary hid it from her

“No” he cried as he stood up

“You should let him be this once, I don't think it's wrong to eat without bathing or brushing your teeth once in a while”

“Can you please mind your business, miss? Or are you his nanny now?” Marian asked and Lydia quickly apologized,

“Sorry, I'm sorry. I just…. He is so cute, I don't think my heart can take it if he cries” She tried to lighten the mood, but Marian didn't want to have it.

“Just focus on your business while I focus on mine. Please excuse me” She picked the now crying Gary up and walked out of the kitchen.

All these while, Gary kept stretching his hands towards Lydia, but she couldn't do a thing. She bit her lip and watched Gary taken away.

She turned to see Carson staring right back at her, she frowned.
