CHAPTER 5

Mae returned to her office in a bad mood, she bent her head on her table trying hard not to cry but tears kept pouring out of her eyes.

She furiously cleaned the tears but it was futile as more kept coming.  After some minutes she was finally able to stop crying.

Throughout the day she was in a daze, reminiscing about past memories, she didn't have the energy to take a look at the documents. Raymond's words kept popping in her head, and the more she thought about them, the more upset she felt.

' He has really changed ' she thought smiling sadly.

Finally, she made it through the workday and left promptly at the end of her shift. Her habit of leaving on time made her not have any friends at work and also made her colleagues unhappy, as they felt she wasn't taking her work seriously.

But Mae didn't care about their opinions. As long as she finished her work, leaving on time was her right.

One reason Mae left work promptly every time was to pick up her son, Micheal. Every day before work, Mae had to drop him off at school and then rush to the office, which often made her arrive late to work. After work, she had to hurry to pick up her son. This was their agreement.

She is trying her possible best to be the best mother to him, even if she couldn't afford to fulfil all of his wishes,  she hoped to be there for him when he needed her.

Mae would only let him stay in school for two extra hours, and after that, she would be there to pick him up on time. She had never broken their promise and she didn't plan on doing so. She walked hurriedly, sprinting downstairs. However, when she arrived downstairs at her office building, her phone rang.

She stopped for a minute and brought her phone out of the bag. The caller Id was unknown.

' Who could be calling?' She thought and swiped the caller icon. She placed the phone in her ear nervously checking the time.

"Hello Miss Madison,  this is Gregory speaking and I'd like to ask for your whereabouts because I can't find you in your office ma'am " he asked almost in a rush.

" Oh hi Greg, um, I'm on my way home " She replied.

"I'm sorry Miss Morrison but as the PA to Mr Wright, you can't leave yet until he dismisses you or until he is ready to leave," he told her with a pitiful voice.

 Mae was speechless,

"But work is over and it's only right I leave!" She said anxiously.

After a short silence, Raymond's voice could be heard.

"Miss Madison,  your attitude towards work would affect your future in this company," he said sarcastically.

Mae panicked, If she didn't go pick up Micheal he would get scared and angry with her! But she couldn't just leave.

She suspected Raymond was intentionally trying to make things difficult for her.

"Now go back to the office, Mr Wright would be attending a very important social gathering tonight and you need to be there." he dictated.

Mae was a little angry, but she knew that if she didn't go, Raymond would really fire her. When Mae made a final attempt to resist, it was as though he was watching her.

"You have a minute to return to your office, if you are a second late, you are fired!" He commanded raising his voice at the last sentence.

Mae hurriedly entered the company's building and called her best friend.

"Hey, baby girl" Becky's voice rang out.

" Hi Becks, could you please help me pick up Micheal, I would be working overtime " she asked nervously.

"You could work overtime at home like always, why is today any different?" Becky asked curiously.

" I would explain everything when I get home,  I'm really sorry for bothering you" she pleaded.

" No problem girl, bye" she muttered and hang up.

When Mae rushed back into the building, she met Raymond and Greg who were about to go downstairs.

" Miss Madison,  I was about calling you not to bother going upstairs as we were about coming downstairs," he said smiling gracefully. Mae returned the smile with a grim look on her face.

"Why don't you come with us in the elevator,  we would be leaving now," he suggested while Raymond only stared at her coldly.

Mae looked at Raymond to see his expression but he stared at her coldly for a while and walked away leaving her dumbfounded.

She was angry but couldn't vent. She remembered that in the past, Raymond would indulge her when she was angry, but now he only gave her a cold look.

Mae bit her lips and her heart began to ache again. She got into Raymond's car without knowing where they were going.

When the car stopped, she realized that they were at a bar, and Greg didn't make a move of coming down from the car.

Mae followed Raymond out of the car looking around nervously, but he still didn't say anything.

She had only been to a bar once and that was because he took her there and he promised to protect her but now the case is different,  she would have to protect herself.

She reluctantly followed him into a private room, and when he opened the door, she saw his friends and most importantly, an anonymous lady with black waist-length curls.

In that skimpy red gown, she was the definition of hot.

just while she admired the lady, Mae suddenly saw the lady rush up to hug him as soon as he opened the door and stepped into the room while the rest froze in shock at seeing Mae standing behind him.
