Chapter six

    There was this heavy feeling in my chest as drove through the drive way leading to our house. I hadn't been here since Alex travelled out. Most of my time have been spent with Mother or with Rain at my other house. 

But Alex returned today so I had to come back even if I didn't want to. Stepping out of my car, I slowly walked toward the house, heaving a sigh before I opened the door.

I knew I had to act as though everything was fine like I didn't know he had gone on a trip just so he could cheat on me with my cousin. I had to harden my heart and pretend I wasn't disgusted whenever I saw him.

"Alex," I called out sweetly. "Honey where are you? I haven't seen you for over a month don't make me wait?"

Alex burst through the kitchen door the next second, smiling as he rushed to pick me up, "You have no idea how miserable I'd been without you. I missed you so much my love." 

I shuddered in disgust when he kissed me. God he kissed me with that awful disgusting lips he's been using on Kate. God knows where those lips had been. 

"I missed you too hubby," I forced those words out of my mouth, opting for a hug instead of a kiss. "I missed you so much." 

Though I'd thought of him through out the month, after all it wasn't easy to forget someone you loved for five years. However when ever I thought of him, all I felt was pain and hatred. 

"I got you some gifts, but let's have lunch first." 

I trailed after Alex as he led me to the dinning hall, where the butler was already setting the table. I sat down beside Alex forcing myself to be enthusiastic like I always was whenever he returned from one of those his trip. 

"So tell me, how was Singapore? Did you take pictures, show them to me." 

Slowly, Alex's face lit up with a smile. For a brief moment he looked as though he was reminiscing about what had happened during his trip. All the while I studied him, my hand turning into a fist beside me. He most certainly had a good time with Kate. Come to think of it, he always had this expression whenever he returned from his supposed business trip. But then I was blinded by love, I couldn't notice flaws.

"It was awesome. I had so much fun." 

"You had fun. I thought since it was a business trip you wouldn't have time to spare for fun?" I countered. 

Alex looked at me surprised because usually I just bought the shit he told without questions. "If you had time for fun, why didn't you call me more often?"

" I...I," Alex stuttered, unable to find words to say. 

"I'm kidding honey," I said, gently tapping his shoulder. "I know you probably used the little free time you had to have fun. Besides you knew I'd be busy so you didn't want to bother me. Of course you always considered me."

Alex released a subtle relief sigh, nodding eagerly. "Yes, yes honey. You know me best. You know all the while I was there, I was thinking about you," he leaned closer to place a kiss of my cheek before resuming his meal.

I quickly finished mine so I wouldn't have to be with him, then went upstairs. Alex came after few minutes. By then I'd already showered and changed into something comfortable. 

Alex brought the gifts he'd bought me. Bags and jewelries. It was exactly the same as before, the brand and even the color. Just that this time I didn't point it out. I just accepted it with fake enthusiasm.

As I leaned in for a hug, my phone beeped. I quickly ignored Alex, leaving him mid-hug as I rushed to where I left my phone on the dressing mirror. It was a text from Rain.

"I'll be waiting tonight," my lips unconsciously curved into a smile. And I set the phone aside before looking up at Alex. "Honey, something urgent came up. I wish I could stay home with you but it's an important deal," I placed a kiss on his lips, dashing into the closet before he could protest. When I stepped out again, I was already dressed.

"I love you so much baby, so much," I kissed him again for the act to be more convincing before leaving. 

"Should I come with you?" I heard him calling from behind me but I ignored him rushing so he wouldn't catch up with me. Once I was a couple of distance away from the house, I texted Olivia to cover up for me just incase Alex grew suspicious.

ALEX 

I watched as Ayanna rushed out of the house for whatever urgent business she had. Not like I cared. I didn't love her, Kate was the one I loved however, she didn't have the means of which I could climb higher up the social ladder, Ayanna did. So I'd pursued her relentlessly and married her. Kate had agreed to my plan though I'd promise to strip Ayanna of everything she owned and give it to Kate. Even if I don't see how I could do it without incurring her father's wrath. Perhaps I had to find a way to kill her without it tracing back to me.

As soon as Ayanna's car disappeared from view, I pulled out my phone to call Kate. She answered on a second ring. 

"Let me guess you were able to win coas her with those gift. See, I told you," she said immediately and I laughed, leaning against the railing on the balcony. 

"She bought my lies like she always does, she's so easy to fool." 

"I guess she's not with you right now, as you're talking to me," Kate chuckled.

"Something urgent came so she rushed out .."

"Ahh... Ayanna went out for something urgent. Isn't she usually clingy especially after you return from trips like this. She'd even clear her schedule so she could be with you." 

I frowned upon hearing that, thinking back on the other times I'd return from my trips. Kate was right. However, what could be wrong? Her behavior was the same as always except today she didn't cancel whatever urgent business she had. For some reason, a strange feeling nurged at my heart but I shrugged it off. Ayanna loves me too much she wouldn't leave me or do anything to hurt me.

As I was thinking this, her message came in.

"I miss you so much honey, I wish I was there with you. I shouldn't have gone out."

See she's obsessed. I smiled to myself before replying her message. "I'm miserable without you my love. Come home soon."

AYANNA 

I rolled my eyes, scoffing when I saw Alex's reply to my message. "Stupid man," I mumbled, tossing my phone as I step out of the car. My heart raced in excitement at thought of seeing Rain however, I knew I couldn't keep him anymore. Our initial agreement was for a month only and today marked the end of our contract. I wanted to spend the night with him before finally letting go. For some reason the thought of letting him go made my heart feel heavy. I did like Rain, a lot. And that scared me. I was already so fond of him. What if I fell for him? 

No, I couldn't I was still married to Alex even though I hated him now. I couldn't let myself get entangled with another man more than I already have. Pushing those thoughts aside, I walked into the house. 

A hand grabbed me as soon as I did. Pulling me into his chest. Rain kissed me hungrily, his arms wrapping around my waist as he picked me up. I wrapped my arms around his neck and my legs around his waist kissing him with passion that equaled his. 

This was goodbye. Perhaps he knew it too. However I didn't want to think about it until morning. 

"Ayanna," Rain broke the kiss though his head still remain pressed to mine. "I love you."
