The designated driver suddenly swivelled my car and drove into a dark abandoned road.

“Why did you take that turn? My house is on the other side of town!” I protested.

The Audi hit another bump, my body flung forward, colliding with the rear of the passenger's seat.

“What was that?” I frowned, fixing my glasses, “Where are you taking me?”

“Shut up!” The driver growled loudly.

“I'm calling the cops!” I declared already fishing out my phone.

Before I could dial 911, a sharp crack exploded. My phone snapped off my grip with a spark.

“Ahhhh!!!” I screamed.

Turning to the large sized driver, I caught a faint metallic glint in the darkness of the vehicle.

A gun.

Heat pooled within my stomach. My heart hammered against my ribs. My throat stung like acid was poured in as I instinctively raised my hands above my head.

“Sit still and shut the fuck up!—” His head whipped from the dark road to my terrified face at the back seat. “—or I'll shoot you before you get to them.”

“Them?” My bottom lip shook. “Who is ‘them’?”

“Keep talking and you won't find out.”

I froze, eyes wide, with my arms still in the air.

He chuckled, dark and sinisterly. “To think that crooked Leone had a kid out in the public all this time. He actually left you unprotected.”

So this was about my father?

For twenty years I've lived outside the influence of the mafia world. Hidden. Protected.

Excluded.

I knew I was busted the moment he called my father's name.

The day I dreaded had eventually come.

Even after he lowered his gun, he kept glancing at me through the rear view mirror like a cat monitoring a mouse.

My lids dropped and I silently muttered prayers. Tears trickled down my cheeks.

Then suddenly, the car jolted. Bits of cement ricochet against the window glass as the tires screeched against broken gravel.

I ducked behind the seat to minimise the impact as the car forced to an agonising stop.

Terrific silence stretched for a minute.

Then the gun's safety clicked as something hard touched my forehead. “Get the fuck up!”

Tears mixed with mascara glued dark strands of hair to my face. I could hardly see through the maze but I spotted a dozen headlights flashing directly at us.

Was that the reason he stopped?

“F…father?” I sobbed.

“Move faster!” The overweight man spat in my face. “Out of the car, or I blow your head off!”

The tip of the gun remained on my head as I hurried out of the car, one trembling feet after the other.

“Don't turn around,” he threatened, “move into the woods.”

My feet carried me forward, but not towards the woods. I ducked away from his gun and ran in the opposite direction—towards the glaring headlights.

Stupid! Stupid! Very stupid Gabriella! You're wearing heels!

Actually, one shoe was already missing.

There was no assurance that those vehicles belonged to my father. But if I was going to die, I might as well die trying to escape.

“STOP!” the man yelled.

But I wasn't thinking, I kept running.

And then the shots came. Bullets sliced through the air like a shower of fireworks.

My knees buckled under the weight of fear.

Yet, before they could scrape the gravel something strong wrapped around my small waist, pulling me flush against a hard wall.

Expensive cologne plus a strong masculine scent wafted through my nose, breaking through my wall of fear in a way I never thought humanly possible.

A sob wracked through my body in that moment and I buried my face into soft silk and hard muscles.

“Shhh,” his hand tightened around me, “you're safe, Principessa.”

In the moment of exhaustion and relief, I was still aware of gunshots going off around us.

Men ran past us from behind the headlights. “Boss, they have reinforcement coming from the woods. You should leave, we'll take care of the rest!”

“Clean up properly when you're done. I can't afford the authorities on my tail.” His chest contracted against my cheek as he spoke.

He aimed a few shots at targets I could not see and I tensed against him.

With one arm, he swiftly hoisted me up. My hands wrapped around his neck, legs straddling his waist instinctively.

He wheeled around and carried me away from the blood bath.

My savior was a tower of brick muscles. He didn't budge as he carried me away.

I clung to him even when he eased into a car, my face buried in the crook of his neck as I cried my terrified ass out.

Sometime later, I wasn't sure how long I had been in that position but my legs were losing blood flow.

I slowly lifted my head.

“Awake?” A low voice gruffed into my ear.

My eyes were too swollen to open properly, and I had lost my glasses during the chaos.

“Awake?” I echoed drowsily. “Did I fall asleep?”

“An hour ago.” His breath tickled my neck and I suddenly realised we were too close.

I scooted off him but his hands immediately caught my thighs, holding me down to his rigid ones.

“Don't. Move.” His eyes were shut, his face relaxed in tranquility.

“Who are you?” I tried to reign in the anxiety building up. Since I was no longer drunk or terrified, jumping into a stranger's arms didn't feel wise. “Who were those men?”

“Which question do you want answered first?” A barely there smile tugged on his lips.

“Answer both!”

He playfully pried one eye open then closed it again. “You're more beautiful in person, Gabriella.”

“How do you know my name?” I gapped. “Are you a fan?”

Stupid question Gabriella, someone this hot and dangerous couldn't be your fan.

He nodded, his head relaxed against the head rest. “Your biggest fan.”

I smiled remembering my concert earlier today. Then my smile slowly faded.

“My designated driver tried to abduct me!”

“He won't be trying anything in the future.” He muttered.

“W…why?”

He opened his eyes and caught my gaze with a serious expression. “They're all dead.”

“Are you a cop?” My breath rasped in my throat. “Who are you?”

“Marco Vitale.” He said coolly.

His eyes remained on me like he wanted to catch my genuine reaction.

“Like…you mean…the Black Requiem? The infamous Italian mob boss—Marco Vitale?”

He grunted a deep approving sound from his throat. “You're well informed.”

THIRD PERSON POV. Gabriella managed a nod, her words stuck in her throat.Marco shook his head, disapproving growl rumbling low in his chest. His lips touched her forehead in a light peck before holding her gaze again.“Userai le tue parole, sì?” he asked in Italian.Translation (You will use your words, yes?)She sucked in a nervous breath, inhaling his beautiful scent of spice. Unsure if she felt giddy from anticipation or fear. Maybe a dangerous mix of both.Marco was the kind of man she would've never spared a glance in the past. But now, enamoured in his deep gaze, rooted by his touch, gently molding her curves, she couldn't seem to look away. Her face warmed when he dropped another feathery kiss on the tip of her nose. His eyes never wavering from hers. Until she parted her lips with a breath of two syllables.“Marco…” Her fingers tangled in his shirt, pulling him closer and raising herself on her toes to meet him halfway.“Posso io?” Her scent, vanilla and a mix of something f

THIRD PERSON POV. Marco's lips stretched into a devious smile at the possessive note in Gabriella’s voice.“Does it bother you?” Marco leaned back on the wall, the ghost of a smirk touching his face.Gabriella pressed her thighs together. She was pressed yet stubbornly holding it in to argue with him.Marco chewed on his inner cheek, watching her movement. He would've laughed if he wasn't thinking of spreading those thighs apart and burying himself between them.“I'm just wondering why you acted like I was invading your privacy when I asked to come here,” Gabriella retorted, puffing her chest out in defiance.“You are invading my privacy.”Gabriella intruded on a lot more than his privacy. Every time he's had her in his house, he'd been so tempted to keep her there and satisfy his obsession. But he knew his hunger for her was insatiable. Keeping her safe would not be enough, he'd want to possess her, in every sense of the word.Hell, he wanted to have her now!“OH,” Gabriella’s tone

THIRD PERSON POV.The silence stretched longer than expected with Gabriella sitting calmly and waiting for Marco to elaborate. But he didn't.Finally, she eased a breath before asking, “You're not gonna tell me what you mean by that?” Gabriella tried and failed to wrap her head around the idea. Since she had a crucial role to play in the cause of the war, it made sense that Marco would protect her for that same reason. What Gabriella could not understand was ‘the reason’.“Principessa,” Marco ran a hand through his hair, messing up the sleek style. “Stop asking questions. And stop expecting shit from me either. I can't give it to you.”She narrowed her eyes at him, “You can't, or you won't?”The feeling of being used and not knowing why made Gabriella’s stomach uneasy.Marco smoothed his shirt, slightly wrinkled but still neat and composed. Just like Marco always is. And right now, he seemed to be running his hands down the fabric to regain that unfazed composure he usually wore. His

Marco was delusional. How could he have hurt me?Or maybe I was the delusional one since all this was a figment of my imagination. My head ached suddenly, and I had to shut my eyes at the excruciating pain.Marco slipped his hand from my loosened grip.“I'll get the doctor,” he muttered and hurried out of the room.“Make it stop.” I clutched my head with both hands, my voice raw and throat burning. Why was this happening to me?It all slowly started coming back to me; the events that led me here.I'd been drugged and taken by Sophia.Aside from that, I didn't remember anything. What if the person I imagined was Marco, was in fact, another person, and my mind was all messed up!“Oh my god!” I shot out of the bed. A sharp sting ripped through my arm as an IV tore free, warm blood trailing after it.The needle dropped on the floor with a small splatter of blood along with its drip tube.I pressed my hand over the arm to stop the blood trickling out.Where the fuck am I?The door swung op

MARCO'S POV. “The name's Brian Delamonte. Nephew to Leone's Donna.”“Leone set up his own kid?” My lips set in a grim line.“Not sure,” Loud music choked Sandro's reply from the background. “Could be her mother, Sophia.”I glanced at the hallway briefly. No sign of anything amiss from my room.“Where is he?” I asked.“Partying at the bar. He's had one too many drinks so far. Blurted without his own mouth that he has a Leone princess in his room for the night.”My hands tightened on the phone. Anymore and it would break. That motherfucker!“Wait until he returns to the room, Sandro. You know what to do.”I hung up. Debating whether to stay or go deal with this Brian Delamonte.I downed my drink and set the glass on the table.I'll wait until Gabriella wakes up.“Mr Vitale?” My head snapped to Stephanie in the hallway. She stepped into the living room, her shoulders slumped with a sigh.“How is she?”“Stable,” She replied. “She was drugged with diazepam mixed with a few other mild, but

  • Secret Obsession    Chapter 34: What did they do to you, Principessa?

MARCO'S POV. Careful not to give my men a show, I slowly lifted the sheet covering Gabriella. The tightness of my chest eased once I saw Gabriella fully clothed, still in the dress she'd worn yesterday.I exhaled shakily, the tension draining from my muscles as I tucked my gun into its holster and scooped her up.Her hands dangled on the side, and I adjusted her head to rest on my shoulder.I frowned slightly at how blacked out she was. She didn't even shift at the noise of my men kicking into the bathroom.Definitely the effect of being drugged.Sandro hurried back to my side just as I turned from the bed, an apologetic look on his face.“Completely empty, whoever brought her here is already gone,” Sandro informed.I could hear the heart pounding in my ears. Was I really too late?Has Gabriella already been violated and redressed?I couldn't conclude whatever happened from her appearance alone. Although she looked like she'd been drugged, there were no visible marks on her body.I c
