She's dead

SHE’S DEAD

Bill slowly looked down to see a boy lying. His leg is injured, blood flows from his leg continuously.

“Help me,” he struggled to speak. Bill helped him to stand up. It seems like they will all go to die in the fire. The boy leaned on Bill’s shoulder and they made their way out of the destruction.

Caleb is suffering inside the fire can’t able to find his way out of the burning house. He felt like this was the end of his life. When he was distracted in fear, the bricks above him were about to fall on him. Suddenly, someone pushed him down and saved him from death right on time.

“Ruby,” Caleb talked in shock.

“Let’s get out of here,” she urged, and stood on her feet. Then she looked at his arms, which were bleeding.

“Why did you come here?” he asked her with pain in his body, struggling to get on his knees.

“For who do you think? Iam here for you,” she replied in a panicked voice. They both stepped together, hoping they would make it out of the place in time. Unfortunately, Caleb saw someone near them.

“Elliott,” he shouted. He is lying unconscious on the ground. Bianca beside him, trying to wake him up so desperately. At the same time, there’s a scream on the other side.

“Help him. I heard some voices. I will help them.” Ruby sounded serious.

“We should not separate in this situation.”

“Time is running. Please go,” she pleaded and walked towards the screaming voice. Caleb prayed she would make it in time. He helped Bianca to carry Elliot to the safe.

“Anyone here?” Ruby shouted, stepping near the voice.

“Help us.” Sara and another girl came into her view. Sara was fully soaked in water. Who will be soaked in water while trying to save their life from the fire?

“Don’t look at me like that. We tried to extinguish the fire by using water from our bottle, but it’s useless. I know we are stupid.” she explained. Even at this time, the way they talked to Ruby never changed.

“Whatever, no time for that,” Ruby scolded her and showed the way to escape. While they are running for their lives, Ruby can hear some beep sound somewhere. Nobody doesn’t know where it comes from.

“Caleb,” Caroline shouted in happiness, even though she knows he’s not on a good stage. He fell to his knees and turned back, expecting Ruby to come back. Care hugged him carefully without hurting his arms.

“Ruby, Ruby...” he choked and tried to say she didn’t return. The beep sound started ringing in everyone’s ears. Sara and her friend came out safely.

“Where’s Ruby?” Caleb shouted at them. He looked at them like he could burn these two girls with his fierce eyes.

“She’s... she was coming behind us,” Sara answered breathlessly.

“Is everyone safe?” Scott asked, thinking why the ambulance was still late. Roshord ambulance never came late except for today. Everything is going wrong like it’s been planned.

“NO, RUBY ISN’T BACK,” Caleb screamed from the top of his lungs.

“Sorry. But I know she was coming behind us,” Sara hid behind Chloe, regretting she should have been careful. Chloe felt uncertain about helping them. But they are still her friends. Soon the beep sound stopped. It all happened without expectation. The whole house burst like someone fixed a bomb. Everyone already got away from the house. Ruby isn’t back. When it’s all over, they looked up to see only ashes remain in the ground. The crack is larger than they can expect. No one can step into the ground. The ambulance and fire engine arrived. But it’s too late.

There’s no expression on Caleb’s face. His reaction is blank and empty to read. He silently cried on the shoulders of her sister Caroline.

“Sorry. I should have checked on her. Forgive me,” Sara pleaded to Chloe, holding her hands. Chloe melted my seeing Sara's regretful face and decided not to scold or blame her.

"It’s not your fault. Please leave." Chloe let go of her hands with tears in her eyes. She joined her family to comfort his brother, which no one can do. Every injured person got into the ambulance except Caleb.

“I won’t go. I want Ruby here. Now. She should be alive,” he sobbed, waiting for Ruby’s return.

“There’s no person alive,” a boy snapped.

“Who are you to tell? she got to be alive. She saved me. She saved me.” with those words he fainted.

“Caleb, Caleb,” Charlotte called him. Without waiting, Caroline and charlotte carried him to the ambulance. There are already more injured players, so they can’t join their brother.

“Ruby’s dead. She’s too young to die. She sacrificed herself.” Chloe standing in the same place with her sister can’t able to believe what just happened within a few minutes. We don’t know what will happen in the next second. Everyone’s happiness turned to sorrow in a flash. Ian stepped near Chloe and didn’t know how to assure her. He’s also grieving for Ruby’s death. He, Taylor, and Ruby are like a team. Now it feels like the one part has vanished from the world.

“She doesn’t deserve to die, right?” Chloe turned to Ian.

“No, she didn’t. She is a hero. Without her, the situation will be much worse. What if it’s all our fault? We should have done something rather than standing here like a coward.” Some tears flowed from his eyes without control.

“Don’t hurt me by telling this,” she frowned and buried her head in his chest. He doesn’t want to hurt Chloe, but he knows it’s everyone’s fault for not being able to save a single girl while they can save every other. While they are crying near them, the judges shout at the principal.

“I never have seen a school like this. There’s no safety for the school. You know what? I can ban this whole school for your fault. Many are fighting for their lives in hospital and a girl died.”

“Please sir, we already took enough precautions. The....” principal was interrupted by the judge.

“Do what can you do to save your students. We can talk about this later.” He made his way out of the school. After an hour, most of the students left. Lowe’s family are remaining. They can’t able to come out of this shock.

“We should go to the hospital to see Caleb,” Chole suggested. Her eyes are dried from crying for an hour.

“Wait, Ruby’s parents are here.” Ian singled them. They can’t able to see her parents crying harder for their innocent and brave daughter who died.

“Can we talk with him?” Chloe asked concerning their loss. Before she could move, Ian grabbed her elbow.

“No, don’t go. It’s not the right time. They are already grieving,” he warned her.
