CHAPTER THREE

DAHLIA

Evans cocked his head. "I never knew you were that daft. Someone that hates you?"

" It's you that he hates," I wanted to say more, deny it, but I couldn't because I knew he was right.

Last time when I was in close proximity to Giveon, his scowl alone made me tuck in my tail and scurry away.

He was terrifying.

"Since you've become so delusional ...now I am pretty much glad to let you go." He laughed. "My goodness. Who wants to be with someone as delusional as you? I wish you the best then. Let's see how that works out."

It sounded like a dare. It sounded like a threat.

And I wasn't one to back down from it.

I narrowed my eyes, clenching my fists. "Let's see how that works out."

I repeated his words back to him, and then turned, leaving the gym.

Luckily for me, the players all had rooms in the Training facility so it was easier for me to locate Giveon's quarters.

It was quite bigger than the other players, because it was the Captain's quarters.

I knocked on the polished, glistening frame of the door.

"Come in," said that deep, yet smooth and velvet like voice that could lull hundreds of women into pulling aside their panties.

I had stayed at the Practice Hub many times. I could literally count how many ladies walked in and out of Giveon's quarters all the time.

But he kept it private though because he and the coach would usually get into an argument about how much of a distraction those ladies would be.

I opened the door and Dan was the first I saw by the ash couch to the left.

He sat casually observing a magazine, until I came in and he looked up.

"Dahlia?" His eyes widened in surprise.

Yeah, i would never have believed I would be standing here as well.

Inside the room of the man my ex hated so much.

If someone said that would happen a few days ago I would have thought the concept as ridiculous as if I were told the sun and the moon once collided a thousand years ago.

"What are you doing here?" He asked.

But I didn't look to him when he asked that. It was Giveon my eyes searched for.

And there he was nestled on the ash chair on the other end of the cream wall that was carefully painted with hockey legends and stars, and pucks.

All six something foot of him, and his menacing stare.

But his frightening glare didn't change the fact that I was staring at the most handsome man in the team.

The most capable and effective. And once before I had seen his torso and fully ripped abs during training at the gym.

It made my cheeks redden and I looked away immediately.

Evan had noticed that day and I had gotten a very harsh scolding.

And then I didn't know why, but he had laid me down, trying to rape me. I didn't know what had come over him, and we had a very big quarrel because that.

Evans just always lost his cool when Giveon was around.

Whereas Giveon on the other hand, just emanated a cold aura, a killer look, and an indifferent expression that could leave him on your thoughts for days.

"You must have a death wish coming into my room don't you?" That deep voice came again, making me snap back to reality and pulling my gaze away from his stomach region.

He had on a black sweatshirt and matching trousers.

"I need to talk to you ... Giveon." I was saying his name to him ...for the very first time.

"This is crazy. In a million years I would never have believed this," Dan exclaimed.

I didn't know why he was that excited. I wasn't having the best time of my life right now.

I was instead trying to save my life.

"Get out, Dan." Giveon said cooly.

" See y'all later." Dan stood, and when he came closer to me he whispered. "Sorry, I didn't mean to ruin things."

He walked away then, shutting the door behind him.

I had wanted to tell him he didn't damage anything, it was all Evan's fault, but the words couldn't step out of my mouth.

I was still weak.

My heart was still hurt.

"You must have a death wish coming here." He had black gloves on, and he stirred green tea in a brown ceramic cup, the steam whirling upwards and out into the air.

"What was Dan doing here?" I blurted out.

His sharp gaze on me made me want to squirm. "Making reports on a few things I'm interested in."

" That would include my relationship ... yeah?"

" I'm not interested in your relationship ... Dahlia."

Hearing my name from his mouth for the first time ... honestly ..it made my skin tingle with excitement.

My heart rate picked up. And my innards swirled joyfully.

gods. What was wrong with me?

"No? Then tell me what exactly Dan was reporting on?"

"You two fuck me over and now you are here to rub it in my face?" " We need to talk Dahlia," Evans said. I wasn't with words to say sincerely, staring at the both of them and the audacity they had coming here.I stepped out the way. "Lily go in. You and I are having a separate chat." She silently went in and I shut the door. The fact was that I couldn't leave her out there in the cold night. She had been staying with me and the only other sensible option was to go back to aunt and that would have to mean sending her back out of Nevada. Lily was here because of me. I had helped her get a job, and also housed her. I was her cousin as well as her guardian in a way, even though I was just 6 years older than her. Aunt Osha had raised me ever since my parents passed away when i was like little. I didn't know

Are you going to become my pr personnel? Tell me, do you have the qualifications? I am here trying to salvage my career and all you can think of is your emotions!" I shot back. Lily sniffed, tears forming in her eyes. " What did I do so wrong that you are acting this way to me?"I shook my head. She wasn't even getting it." I don't have time to deal with this right now. We will have to talk later."The door to the pub opened and Giveon stepped out. He walked towards us. "Isn't this interesting? Lily I would think that you have gotten a little bit of remorse considering how much you hurt your cousin, but here you are."He stopped a distance beside us and crossed his arms. "You don't get to judge her. " I snapped back. "You have been a fuck boy all your life. I am sure whatever this is you're trying to do with Dahlia

CHAPTER 11GIVEONI observed Evans, wondering if he had a death wish or something, coming here to speak such nonsense. But then again it was more important for me to get the information I needed than to let my emotions get the better of me. " And why is that?"He frowned. "You don't need to know. I am sure she is going around trying to pitch herself. She said she was going to come to you and prove me wrong after I dared her ...kinda ...dared her." He pushed his table closer." So you have to agree to this. Our team is on the line. If this goes awry it could affect me yunno. Besides I know you don't care about her."" Who told you I don't?" I raised a brow at him. His eyes widened and his mouth dropped, then shut back. " You are joking right? There's absolutely no way you are interested in Dahlia. You are a fuck boy. A play boy. That is always who you have been."" You aren't wrong. But that was just some form of escapism. The one person I wanted ...belonged to someone else." I nar

CHAPTER 10Signature style Coach James walked in, his black hair combed backwards, his signature style. His greyish white beards had been shaved short. He had on a loose purple suit over a white top and creamy trousers. But what surprised me most was who walked in with him. Evans was with him, looking smug like a bounty hunter who had found his prey. "Coach?" Giveon said as he neared our table. It was at that moment the expression on his face became clear to me. He wasn't happy. Not one bit. "I don't get why the captain of Red Rocks Strikers would be downing drinks?" " I am not precisely about to get myself drunk cap." Giveon fought back, while Evans took a step back, a smug look on his face that I was so annoyed about and wanted to slap off him. He had done this. Of course. Who else would it be? He had reported Giveon to Coach. What for I had honestly no idea. "You are the captain. If I am going to be lenient on others to drink from time to time, should I also let the capt

CHAPTER NINE DAHLIA My gaze remained longingly at the Negroni the bar man took back as I sipped the orange drink begrudgingly. "You look like someone who just lost a dear puppy." Giveon noted. " You shouldn't have taken my drink away from me." I said, then the bar man came back. " Can I have my Negroni back?" Suddenly I felt cold fingers move my face slowly, till I was staring at hard, menacing blue eyes. "Don't test me." Giveon growled as he narrowed his eyes, then he leaned in, to my ear. "I could kiss you here in front of everyone. Make them all talk and carry the news, and give you the embarrassment you have been running away from. Is that what you want?" I shook my head quite fast. "That wasn't my intention. I ju..just wanted my drink." He carefully let go of me, his fingers brushing lightly against my cheek bones and sending tingly sensations skittering all over my body. "Get her an Americano." Giveon said to the barman who nodded and walked off. I frowned at Gi

He knew I was just captain and couldn't get him out of the team so he maneuvered his way, always pissing me off. Of course he never defaulted on ice or I would have found my opportunity to teach him numerous lessons, so he smartly plotted his mischief. Seeing as he was careless already with his public image, and needed Dahlia to clean up after him, it went to show he didn't really care about anything. Yes hockey was a sport he loved and he did well in it. But his cockiness and inflated sense of self, which by the way was delusional, was his problem. As for Dahlia, Evans would have never really gotten under my skin if not for her. She was the reason my hatred for Evans cooked and simmered. She was the reason I allowed him get to me. As much as I tried to deny it, I always felt like what belonged to me had been taken from me.That did all sorts of things to me. And so I hated Dahlia. I act
