CHAPTER ONE

DAHLIA

I had tried to call Evans, but he wasn't picking. It rang once and then the next it was switched off.

My insides turned and an anxious dark cloud of thoughts I didn't want hovered over my mind.

He told me he was heading home, but he had forgotten to take the keys with him.

They had been inside my bag

The light steel objects clattered in my hands right now as I stared at my phone, wondering what would make his phone go off.

Had his battery died? Perhaps that was the logical reason.

I worried he might be stranded outside because of me.

Evans always lost his things--keys most especially since they were little.

He was a careless boyfriend, sad to say.

So I opted to keep his keys for him since we worked together.

I as his PR specialist and him as my hockey employer--and boyfriend.

I sighed and placed my phone in my bag as I made to hurry out and get a cab.

I had only taken a few steps when I came across Dan, one of his hockey teammates.

He had a frown on his face, his red hair curling like a bob around his head. "How did you get from there to here?" He gesticulated with his hand, pointing backwards to his left, where the hockey players had their gym facilities.

"How? I don't get?"

"I just saw you now with your man. How did you get here so fast before me?" Dan cocked his head." Do you have some psychic abilities or something?"

My frown deepened as a gloomy, horrifying feeling settled in the pit of my stomach.

It was uncertainty. It was doubt. It was fear.

A look flashed on Dan's face, as his eyes widened, and then it disappeared immediately, but I had caught on.

I was trained for that.

My face solidified instantly. That deep fear had morphed into a cold realization of what had happened.

I tried to hide it, but my heart was beating so fast and painfully I thought even Dan would hear it.

"Thank you Dan ...for the information " I walked away, in the direction of the gym building.

"Oh fuck me ..." Dan said, slapping his forehead. "Evans is going to kill me."

I hurried forward, my steps increasing with the pace of my heart beat.

I went in through the glass backdoor of the gym house because it was the fastest route into the gym.

The noises came then.

"Ohh fuck. Mmmm. Yes Evans. Fuck that pussyyyy!!" Flesh slammed against flesh as steel scraped against marble, and metal equipments clattered and clanged against one another.

"I told you to call me daddy," growled Evans and I heard slapping of flesh and more pounding. "Go on. Say it."

"Mmmm. Yes Daddy. Yes yes yes."

My hands shook.

My bag shook.

My entire body shook.

My reality had shattered.

My perfect relationship was a myth now.

I was Evan's girlfriend, and I always managed his temper tantrums.

I was his pr specialist as well. I cleaned up his mess more times than I could count, even beyond what I was getting paid for by his team.

He was very reckless and sometimes he would knowingly get in trouble, and shrug off the consequences just because I was around.

Dahlia, the best freelance PR specialist in the city.

What mess couldn't she clean up?

I handled it all very well. With no complaint.

All because I loved him. We were a couple.

To me it was manageable, because I was happy to be with him.

We were happy together. Or so I thought.

I took in a deep breath. I couldn't break.

Not here. That would be humiliating, to add salt to injury.

I walked into view then.

"I didn't know this was a new workout technique"

They both froze, and Evans turned to me.

My heart broke when the lady scrambled away from under him.

It was my cousin. Lily.

No wonder Dan had mistaken her for me.

Same dark blonde hair, fair skin. Nearly identical features.

My legs were so weak I wasn't sure how I was managing to remain on my feet.

She tried to cover her bouncing breasts with her hands to no avail.

Her face was flushed red. Shame and embarrassment warred for territory on her beautiful features.

She couldn't look at me, as she arranged back her jean skirt to her thighs.

I felt nauseous. I had single handedly gotten this backstabbing bitch a job here.

She was the hotline handler for the team.

And this was how I got back my thank you?"

"You two fuck me over and now you are here to rub it in my face?" " We need to talk Dahlia," Evans said. I wasn't with words to say sincerely, staring at the both of them and the audacity they had coming here.I stepped out the way. "Lily go in. You and I are having a separate chat." She silently went in and I shut the door. The fact was that I couldn't leave her out there in the cold night. She had been staying with me and the only other sensible option was to go back to aunt and that would have to mean sending her back out of Nevada. Lily was here because of me. I had helped her get a job, and also housed her. I was her cousin as well as her guardian in a way, even though I was just 6 years older than her. Aunt Osha had raised me ever since my parents passed away when i was like little. I didn't know

CHAPTER 12Ceiling Lights I stopped just a foot away from her. "And who says I have lost it?" "You haven't been picking my calls. We can start there." " Tell me Lily. Are you going to become my pr personnel? Tell me, do you have the qualifications? I am here trying to salvage my career and all you can think of is your emotions!" I shot back. Lily sniffed, tears forming in her eyes. " What did I do so wrong that you are acting this way to me?"I shook my head. She wasn't even getting it." I don't have time to deal with this right now. We will have to talk later."The door to the pub opened and Giveon stepped out. He walked towards us. "Isn't this interesting? Lily I would think that you have gotten a little bit of remorse considering how much you hurt your cousin, but here you are."He stopped a distance beside us and crossed his arms. "You don't get to judge her. " I snapped back. "You have been a fuck boy all your life. I am sure whatever this is you're trying to do with Dahlia

CHAPTER 11GIVEONI observed Evans, wondering if he had a death wish or something, coming here to speak such nonsense. But then again it was more important for me to get the information I needed than to let my emotions get the better of me. " And why is that?"He frowned. "You don't need to know. I am sure she is going around trying to pitch herself. She said she was going to come to you and prove me wrong after I dared her ...kinda ...dared her." He pushed his table closer." So you have to agree to this. Our team is on the line. If this goes awry it could affect me yunno. Besides I know you don't care about her."" Who told you I don't?" I raised a brow at him. His eyes widened and his mouth dropped, then shut back. " You are joking right? There's absolutely no way you are interested in Dahlia. You are a fuck boy. A play boy. That is always who you have been."" You aren't wrong. But that was just some form of escapism. The one person I wanted ...belonged to someone else." I nar

CHAPTER 10Signature style Coach James walked in, his black hair combed backwards, his signature style. His greyish white beards had been shaved short. He had on a loose purple suit over a white top and creamy trousers. But what surprised me most was who walked in with him. Evans was with him, looking smug like a bounty hunter who had found his prey. "Coach?" Giveon said as he neared our table. It was at that moment the expression on his face became clear to me. He wasn't happy. Not one bit. "I don't get why the captain of Red Rocks Strikers would be downing drinks?" " I am not precisely about to get myself drunk cap." Giveon fought back, while Evans took a step back, a smug look on his face that I was so annoyed about and wanted to slap off him. He had done this. Of course. Who else would it be? He had reported Giveon to Coach. What for I had honestly no idea. "You are the captain. If I am going to be lenient on others to drink from time to time, should I also let the capt

CHAPTER NINE DAHLIA My gaze remained longingly at the Negroni the bar man took back as I sipped the orange drink begrudgingly. "You look like someone who just lost a dear puppy." Giveon noted. " You shouldn't have taken my drink away from me." I said, then the bar man came back. " Can I have my Negroni back?" Suddenly I felt cold fingers move my face slowly, till I was staring at hard, menacing blue eyes. "Don't test me." Giveon growled as he narrowed his eyes, then he leaned in, to my ear. "I could kiss you here in front of everyone. Make them all talk and carry the news, and give you the embarrassment you have been running away from. Is that what you want?" I shook my head quite fast. "That wasn't my intention. I ju..just wanted my drink." He carefully let go of me, his fingers brushing lightly against my cheek bones and sending tingly sensations skittering all over my body. "Get her an Americano." Giveon said to the barman who nodded and walked off. I frowned at Gi

CHAPTER EIGHT GIVEONEvans had been a thorn in my flesh for as long as I could remember. He knew I was just captain and couldn't get him out of the team so he maneuvered his way, always pissing me off. Of course he never defaulted on ice or I would have found my opportunity to teach him numerous lessons, so he smartly plotted his mischief. Seeing as he was careless already with his public image, and needed Dahlia to clean up after him, it went to show he didn't really care about anything. Yes hockey was a sport he loved and he did well in it. But his cockiness and inflated sense of self, which by the way was delusional, was his problem. As for Dahlia, Evans would have never really gotten under my skin if not for her. She was the reason my hatred for Evans cooked and simmered. She was the reason I allowed him get to me. As much as I tried to deny it, I always felt like what belonged to me had been taken from me.That did all sorts of things to me. And so I hated Dahlia. I act
