Susan's POV

My lips keep trembling as I thought of ways to disclose the shocking news to Ethan without adding to his list of worries.

I wouldn't want to be the reason for his tears when I ought to prevent that.

The situation got messier when the female cop reminded me that we had a few minutes left.

From the look on her face, she couldn't wait to take Ethan back to the cell.

Instantly, my senses returned to normal.

I knew I needed to speak faster to avoid missing out on the golden opportunity.

The next few minutes can't be predicted in Ethan's case.

After confronting Maria in such a despicable manner, I wouldn't be surprised if she started thinking of pressing charges against Ethan.

The fact that I got her kids involved in the shit made it more complicated.

I should have known that she doesn't joke with them.

“You just heard what the cop said, didn't you? If you are not going to speak up, I advise you to leave now.

You could have at least stayed back home if you're coming here would be meaningless,” Ethan yelled at me.

The yelling pierced my heart like a dagger. He's getting tired of the silent treatment.

I'm beginning to witness my husband in a different dimension.

“Maria promised to order your release and drop all charges on the condition that you stop getting closer to her.” I took a deep pause before continuing.

“That's not all; she also intends to get a court restraining order against you,” I finally found my tongue and voiced out after several failed attempts

The anxiety forced me to speak faster as though I had a hot yam In my mouth.

“No way," she said. This is a joke, right? She can't possibly do that to me.

There must be a mix-up somewhere.” Ethan scoffed as he doubted me.

It was the shortest smile ever.

I knew it came from a place of pain.

“I wish it was a joke, Ethan. When I spoke to her about the kids, she was infuriated and claimed they aren't yours,” I buttressed.

That was the part that pushed Ethan's button.

I didn't even know when he slammed the desk in frustration.

“They're my sons.

What the fuck is she talking about?” Ethan sparked outrageously.

He sounded so sure, as though he secretly carried out a DNA test that proved that he was the Father of the triplets.

Not until when I asked Ethan if he had any proof, was the absolute decorum enclosed in him.

He suddenly lost the strength to speak.

If I was meeting him for the first time, I would have sworn that his vocal cords had been destroyed.

“Ethan, listen to me,”

I held his hands closer to mine.

“Accept the restraining order for your freedom. The company needs you. People are beginning to spread rumours about you.

You should know better that this isn't cool for the company,” I advised him. But it seemed like the advice fell on deaf ears.

I watched Ethan stand up even when we still had a few minutes left to settle the scores.

“Tell Maria to kiss my ass. I won't bend to her wish.

I will find a way to sort this out with my lawyer,” Ethan notified me.

I tried to make him see the reasons why Maria's suggestion was the perfect solution, and he neglected me.

He left me stunned and asked questions. I can't fathom his height of negligence.

I wasn't the one who got arrested, but I still feel more remorseful than him.

Shortly after Ethan's departure, the female cop walked up to me and asked me to leave.

From the way she stared at me during my discussion with Ethan, I could tell that she's been waiting for the perfect moment to walk me out like a piece of shit.

I just suffered my second humiliation for the second time in less than five minutes.

Firstly, it was from Ethan who I least expected. And now, it's from the annoying female cop which I envisaged.

With my face drowning in the pool of shame, I walked majestically to my car. Immediately I got inside, my phone rang.

At first, I ignored it because I never thought it was necessary.

With a troubled heart, a telephone conversation was the last thing I wanted to engage myself in.

I wasn't even bothered if it was a potential client on the line.

How can I hold on to a spirited conversation when I'm not in the right frame of mind?

After the second time, I got furious and was compelled to check the caller.

Behold, it turned out to be Paul, Ethan's cousin.

My heart skipped a thousand times. I had a feeling that he might have found out about his cousin's arrest.

I braced up and let out a deep sigh while trying to stay calm.

I wouldn't want to put up a disappointing performance over the phone.

“Hi, Paul.

Sorry, I missed your call. I was sleeping,” I lied.

I spoke in a soft tone and yawned just to convince Paul that I was telling the truth.

I figured that was the only way to get rid of him over the phone.

All hell will let loose if he finds out about Ethan's arrest.

“Is it true?”

That was the first thing on his lips.

He wasn't bothered about my apology for not answering the phone at the first attempt.

“What's true?” I asked, trying to pretend like I didn't know what he was talking about.

I would rather not be too forward. I wanted him to do the talking.

“Come on, Suzy.

You're going to pretend like you are not aware of Ethan's arrest?” Paul dropped the bombshell.

How he found out about it wasn't known to me.

This was precisely what I avoided when I pleaded with Ethan to accept Maria's ridiculous condition.

Too bad he didn't pay attention to me.

We wouldn't have found ourselves in this pathetic situation when I warned him not to confront Maria at the award ceremony.

I needed to be certain that I wasn't imagining things that weren't real.In a delicate situation like that, the last thing I'll consent to is jokes or pranks.“Of course, I did, Tony. You weren't the only one who heard the voice. It is safe to say that your ears lead you in the right direction. Let's listen to what the son of a bitch has to say,”Marcus replied.I was relieved by his utterances. It confirmed that I wasn't losing my mind after all.Patrick stepped forward. He stood before everyone to ensure he was closer to Sean than any of us. “Start talking now! This is your chance to make it right again. Tell us what you know about Angela's whereabouts. And don't you dare miss out on any details,” Patrick ordered Sean. For a moment, I was impressed by his moves. That was the only sensible thing that has been done over the last couple of hours. He's going to do something crazy," Officer Patrick instructed his other officers.Instantly, they stood before me and formed a shield to block my exit.Soon, Patrick joined me as he panted heavily. I gave him the run of his life that he would never forget rushing. “What's the meaning of this madness, Patrick? Have you suddenly lost your manners? Is this how you treat a man of my age?Tell them to get the fuck out of my way before someone gets hurt," I demanded.I used my age as an advantage to get past the officers, but I failed. The officers in front of me were ruthless. It was as though Patrick had cast a spell on them, that made them obey his command without grudges.“This ain't got nothing to do with ageYou brought this upon yourself. If there's anyone that might end up hurt, it's you," Officer Patrick said to me. It was starting to sound like a threat to me. I couldn't handle the r

Are you starting to hear things that aren't real?” Patrick mocked me. He didn't think I was telling the truth. “Have you forgotten the reason we are here? Let's go inside quickly before she escapes,” he urged me, but I refused. I was resilient and focused on my instincts. “I might be old, but certainly not dumb or stupid. I knew what I heard. That was Kelly's voice,” I challenged Patrick.I didn't allow him to control my thoughts. I left the doorway and strolled around my mansion, trying to trace the voice I heard. “Papa, please come,”I heard the voice calling me for the second time. I traced the voice to the garage and saw Angela and Kelly seated inside the car. I tried to get closer to them, but she drove off. I didn't try to run after the car, knowing it would be pointless to do that. For the second consecut

Tony Wood's POV“Where's Angela?Where's Kelly?” I popped the question without a direct lead. I was hoping that someone would sacrifice themselves to speak up.“Oh, shit. She fucking escaped. How did this happen? Where are the fucking nurses?” The doctor screamed. He slammed the wall to demonstrate his rage. He was about to leave when I held him back. “Where the heck are you going?”“What the heck is this? Let go of me,” he requested.“I want to summon all the nurses to know who was on duty,” he explained.I was ruthless!I refused to let him go, knowing that he was the reason for Angela's escape. If he hadn't hesitated when I called for her arrest, Angela would be sleeping behind bars already.“Oh, come on, Tony. You know I have nothing to do with this. I was only trying to protect the image of my hospital,” he claimed. That was the lamest excuse I've ever heard. The excuse made me even more angry. I wasn't conscious of my act anymore. And the next minute, I was already draggi

Tony Woods POV“Are you sure you are ready for this moment, Mr. Woods? I want you to take your time and reflect on it before coming up with a decision. What I'm about to disclose might sound partially devastating and heartbreaking to you. And I am sure you wouldn't want that for yourself. Remember your health status. I don't want to be the one to escalate your blood pressure,” The doctor retreated just when he was on the verge of disclosing my son's test results. It wasn't a question I found quite intriguing. But somehow, I was able to control my rage. “Really? Are we going to do this all day? Come on, Doctor. I am not interested in any of your jokes. Just hit the nail on the head.
