Susan's POV

I was stuck between exposing the truth about Ethan's arrest or keeping mute.

“Why aren't you saying a word? He was arrested, wasn't he?

Damn! I knew it,” Paul concluded really fast without verifying from me.

My silence was enough for him to harbor such thoughts in his head.

“Why did you hide It from me, his cousin? Where are you now? We need to speak,” Paul won't stop raising his voice at me. I tried to calm his nerves and I sucked at it.

He hated the fact that I kept the arrest away from him. He felt neglected and insulted.

“I will be heading to your home in a bit now.” I lied.

It would have been a risk to tell him that I was at her station.

Once he gets to know about that, he'd definitely ask for the address.

“I'd be waiting.

Don't leave me hanging,” he said.

He ended the phone before I got the chance to speak further.

I felt a giant relief when he ended the phone.

The way he interrogated me about Ethan's arrest was quite shocking and alarming.

He hit the nail on the head without mincing words. Somehow, the mullet-headed simpleton caught me off guard.

I took some time to catch my breath before driving out of the station straight to Paul's house.

I wouldn't have a repeat of this first time when I had a rough ride.

The fact that I never had a ghastly accident doesn't guarantee my luck for the second time.

In a five-minute drive, I was already In front of Paul's house.

If only he knew that the station was just a stone's throw from his mansion.

Rather than honking to alert the gatekeeper, I laid back in my car, knowing that a difficult moment with Paul awaited me.

He's most likely to ask all the questions he wasn't opportune to over the phone.

I chanted some words of encouragement to build my confidence before honking.

Minutes later, the gatekeeper opened the gate to pave my entrance.

Slowly, I drove to the garage where Paul's fleet of cars was situated before stepping outside.

I was surprised that the gatekeeper didn't ask about my identity.

I could have sworn that Paul had notified him about my presence.

As I walked to the entrance, I spotted someone watching me from the window.

Immediately, I knew it was Paul.

The moment he realized that I'd caught him, he left the window area.

I haven't entered, and he's already infusing so much fear inside of me.

It was a sign that I needed to stay strong.

I did a cross sign before finding my way to his mansion.

The attractiveness of the living room wasn't a surprise for me because it wasn't my first time visiting.

Paul didn't even look at me despite being aware of my presence. All he did was face the wall and sip his glass of liquor.

This silly attitude of his deprived me of initiating the conversation.

How can I speak to someone who isn't looking in my direction?

If he was going to treat me like an outsider, he shouldn't have invited me over.

“Where's my cousin?”

He finally broke the silence.

With a slow motion, he turned in my direction.

I thought he was never going to speak to me. I was already making plans to protest about it.

I looked into the eyes of Paul when he asked and all I saw was rage.

Deep inside, he had already condemned me without waiting to hear from me first.

I stood there glaring at him like a dummy. I knew what to say, but the problem was the approach.

I carefully selected my words to avoid shooting myself in the leg.

I did him dirty by hiding Ethan's arrest. I wouldn't want to commit a similar crime like that anymore.

“You just gotta take a chill pill while I divulge,” I pleaded with Paul.

I was hoping that it'd be enough to subdue his anger and prevent him from detesting me once I was done talking.

Slowly, I took my time to explain to Paul without leaving any stone unturned.

It was the only time I got to speak, so I made the best of the opportunity.

“What the fuck?” Paul screamed his lungs out after my narration.

He was so shocked to the point that his glass of liquor accidentally dropped on the ground and broke to pieces.

The sound of the glass alerted some of his domestic staff who showed up in no time.

From the way the glass sounded, I won't be surprised if it gets the attention of the gatekeeper from outside.

“Holy grail!” One of them shouted after spotting the scattered pieces of sharp bottles on the ground.

That was the first thing his gaze flickered to.

The second female staff with an apron tied around her waist rushed to meet Paul.

She kept checking Paul's body to be certain he wasn't hurt.

“I am fine.

Just clean up this mess,” Paul authorized them.

The whole time he addressed his staff, he had eyes on me.

He must be thinking of the nasty things to do to me.

“Are you sure about that, sir?

I suppose we will take you to the hospital. You don't seem too good.

I saw you standing on broken bottles when I arrived,” the female staff protested.

She has every reason to believe that Paul needed help.

Paul never said a word in response, but an awkward glance at the staff was enough to make her live in fear.

He still managed to pass a thousand messages with silence.

“Come with me,”

Paul said while stepping outside.

I stood there because I wasn't certain who he was referring to.

It was not until he returned and screamed at me that it dawned on me that he was actually referring to me.

I rushed to join him outside before it got worse than it already seemed.

I had no idea why he wanted me outside.

And at the same time, I wasn't ready to ask him.

It's the best way to avoid his wrath that's like a burning furnace.

MARIA'S POV I raced up the stairs, my heart dancing with every step. Three years, three long years of cold, empty marriage, and now, finally, I had a reason to hope. I was pregnant. I could hardly breathe as I imagined the look on Ethan's face. Maybe, just maybe, this baby would change everything. Maybe it could make him see me and love me so much. Though he did, it was just a little, and ever since we got to the third year of our marriage, he started behaving so distant. I burst through the door, my cheeks flushed with excitement. But as soon as I stepped inside I heard muffled voices. I paused. My smile froze on my lips. I shook my head, pushing the doubt away. No, this was a happy day. But when I opened the door to our bedroom, my world shattered. There he was. Ethan, my husband was on the couch with a woman sitting casually across his lap like she belonged there. Her lips pressed against his, their bodies entwined as if I didn't exist. "Ethan!" I

Maria's POV "Come back here”. I heard a voice say behind me just when I was almost out of the house. A shiver ran down my spine and my legs felt so weak that I couldn't turn around. I already knew who had that voice; it was no other person but Ethan. His voice was ice cold and dripping with so much venom. "What did you just say?" he asked me, and before I could speak, he raised his finger in warning. “Don't even try to lie." I swallowed hard, sweat beads forming on my head, and I glanced up at Susan, who had her arms folded across her chest with a sly smile on her lips. I had wanted to leave peacefully without any trouble but now I guess that peace was far from me. "She threatened me, Ethan," Susan said, and in seconds, she was already beside him, holding his arms and casting a hateful glance my way. I felt so small, so insignificant my life had changed in just a few minutes. "She threatens to kill me, Ethan," Susan said, and without even waiting for confirmation, Ethan's

Maria’s POV Being unconscious was something which I had come to cherish and I didn't wish to wake up to this cruel world. I wanted to die. I opened my eyes wearily and glanced at the white ceiling which was a stark contrast to my room. I tried to get up and mad pain protested through me, breaking down every strength I had left. My whole body felt numb and weak and I couldn't even lift a finger. I must have been unconscious for a long time as I glanced to my left, there was a machine beside my bed beeping. I tried to sit up, but I couldn't; the pain was too much, and tears were brimming in my eyes. The only thing I could remember was that Susan had pushed me and that was it, the darkness closing in on me. I was half aware of my surroundings, and I tried to call for help, but my tongue lay limp and dry in my mouth. I heard a door open faintly, and someone walked in, but I just couldn't make out the figure. I felt someone touch my hands, my vision was blurry and I felt like

Six months Later. My life had changed since I signed those divorce papers. I now live in Massachusetts. And I needed something to do. I couldn't afford to stay idle, not with three babies relying on me. I had no choice but to start over. My hands trembled as I put them to work, scrolling through pages of job listings at two in the morning, the sound of babies breathing softly behind me. Nothing felt right. Everything looks like I could barely pay for diapers, let alone cover the growing mountains of bills. I had to figure something out— fast. It wasn't until two weeks later while struggling to soothe one of the boys with a blanket I had hand-sewn for him, that the idea came to me. “Homemade personalized baby blanket”. Something soft, simple, and full of love. Something new mothers would treasure like I did with my boys. I didn't wait. Immediately I set up an online store that same night, listing my first part of the blanket. It wasn't much but it was a start. I never t

Maria’s POV. The Mercedes Benz AMG glided to a stop before me as I stood at the airport entrance, my dark sunshades managed to conceal my features but not my red succulent lips and my high fashion sense. I got the stares a lot, which I was already used to; I stood tall and magnificent as the driver rounded the corner and got the door open for me. "Mommy!" Timmy, the third of the triplets, shrieked tugging at me with my designer bag. "What is it, darling?" I asked, smiling down at him. "Are we going home?" Ted, the first of the triplets, asked me, holding onto his kite. He had asked the question which his brother had wanted to ask. But before I could answer his question, Theo, ever inquisitive with his sharp eyes, looked up at me. He was the smartest of the triplets and was ready to ask questions until he had answers. "When are we going back to Massachusetts? How long are we staying in Louisiana? Do you think we will ever make new friends, Mommy?" All the questions he threw a
