Susan's POV

Exactly what you heard, ma'am.

I believe you haven't lost your hearing ability.

Your husband isn't here. He left without saying a word. This is the last time I am going to say this to you.

And if you don't leave now, you might replace him in the cell," cop Aleeyah threatened me.

She didn't even consider my mental health.

After observing her rudeness towards me lately, I was starting to ask myself if I've offended her in the past without knowing.

“Leave this place? You must be a clown because that certainly sounds funny to me.

That's never happening. You don't expect me to leave without my husband, do you? It's all your fault.

Why did you let him leave like that without dropping a message for me?” I argued with the loudest voice.

I was prepared to cause a scene in the station without minding if it would lead to my arrest.

It was the same attitude that made Maria have Ethan locked up in the cell for 48 hrs.

And I am not willing to let the snake calamity befall me.

“I see you're very obstinate, just like your ex-convict of a husband.

But guess what? All of that is ending now.

It's time I showed you the stuff I'm made of,” the female cop said to me.

Just when I thought she was kidding, she reached out for her landline and called on a superior to get me arrested.

Upon hearing that, my nostrils stood up.

My senses returned to normal, and I knew I needed to make a move.

I wasn't alone.

Paul and I seemed to be thinking in the same direction.

I was surprised when he patted me on the shoulder, signaling our exit. “It's time to leave now while we still can.

We are never going to win over these people.”

That was the only time he made a move since we got to the station.

I was starting to think that he was secretly working against me.

The moment he saw that I wasn't ready to comply anymore, he dragged me outside like a criminal.

It was at that point I realized that another cop was heading in our direction.

I never saw that coming.

If it weren't for Paul's attentiveness, I could have been caught and thrown inside the cell.

“That was close.

So close to being arrested. That cop is worse than a witch.

She's got zero conscience towards humanity,” I panted heavily as he got back to the car.

It was worse than a near-death experience.

It felt like my heart was about to get ripped off my body.

“So what do we do now? We certainly can't return to Maria.

We promised not to show up at her house anymore.

I intend to hold on to that.” Paul asked. He seemed to be running out of ideas.

The fact that Ethan's phone is in my custody worsened it.

It also reduced our chances of reaching out to him to find out about his destination.

“I've got an idea.

This will work. It just popped into my head.” Paul snapped his hands for a solution.

The one we've been yearning for all along.

I felt relieved despite not hearing from him first. The fact that he's got a solution was the assistance I needed.

His recent ideas have been helpful. He's come through for us in clutch moments.

He suggested that we approach Maria with a different strategy.

Despite my doubt, it turned out to be my best decision ever.

“How about we call his father? Perhaps he might know a thing or two about his son's whereabouts,” Paul proposed.

This time, he got it all wrong.

It was the dumbest thing I've heard in a while.

To even imagine that it came from a brilliant champ like Paul.

To say I'm disappointed at him would be an understatement

I shook my head disdainfully and rested on the steering wheel for a matter of seconds.

Then I lifted it up.

Without saying a word, I proceed to start the car.

Unfortunately, Paul stopped me just as I was about to drive us out. “You can't possibly leave like that.

Didn't you hear what I said? I thought you were going to say something about it,”

“That's the shit I'm referring to. I guess my actions were the response you needed,” I lost my cool.

“Did you actually say that, or was it your clone? Did you even listen to yourself at all?

Should I remind you that Ethan hasn't spoken to his father in years?” I refreshed Paul's memory with a shout and made him speechless.

“I never knew.

He barely speaks about his Father,. Paul stuttered.

It took him plenty of time to put the words together.

I forced myself to laugh after I heard him say that.

Paul keeps putting up some surprising performance in the last couple of minutes.

“Are you truly his cousin? Because if you were, you'd understand things like this,” I mocked Paul.

I took back my words when I recalled that Paul had been out of the country for nearly a decade.

He returned to the States on Ethan's order.

I doubt if Ethan's father is even aware of his son's name arrest.

Even if he was, he would never be concerned

He's rich and influential.

He could have ordered Ethan's release immediately.

His affluence in the society is enough to make him do that.

Unfortunately, his horrible past with his family was the reason I didn't go to him

If there's an award ceremony for a deadbeat Dad, Ethan's Father will surely be crowned the undisputed champion

He got separated from Ethan's mother for a much younger lady.

As though that weren't enough, he distanced himself from Ethan as though Ethan weren't his biological son

Little wonder Ethan never talks about his father.

The hate towards his father has become stronger than the Rock of Gibraltar.

The man might be still alive and kicking, but to Ethan, he's dead and non-existent

Tony Woods' POV “Did you just hear that? He fucking uttered something,” I called Marcus attention to the voice I heard. I needed to be certain that I wasn't imagining things that weren't real.In a delicate situation like that, the last thing I'll consent to is jokes or pranks.“Of course, I did, Tony. You weren't the only one who heard the voice. It is safe to say that your ears lead you in the right direction. Let's listen to what the son of a bitch has to say,”Marcus replied.I was relieved by his utterances. It confirmed that I wasn't losing my mind after all.Patrick stepped forward. He stood before everyone to ensure he was closer to Sean than any of us. “Start talking now! This is your chance to make it right again. Tell us what you know about Angela's whereabouts. And don't you dare miss out on any details,” Patrick ordered Sean. For a moment, I was impressed by his moves. That was the only sensible thing that has been done over the last couple of hours. If he had rec

He's going to do something crazy," Officer Patrick instructed his other officers.Instantly, they stood before me and formed a shield to block my exit.Soon, Patrick joined me as he panted heavily. I gave him the run of his life that he would never forget rushing. “What's the meaning of this madness, Patrick? Have you suddenly lost your manners? Is this how you treat a man of my age?Tell them to get the fuck out of my way before someone gets hurt," I demanded.I used my age as an advantage to get past the officers, but I failed. The officers in front of me were ruthless. It was as though Patrick had cast a spell on them, that made them obey his command without grudges.“This ain't got nothing to do with ageYou brought this upon yourself. If there's anyone that might end up hurt, it's you," Officer Patrick said to me. It was starting to sound like a threat to me. I couldn't handle the r

Are you starting to hear things that aren't real?” Patrick mocked me. He didn't think I was telling the truth. “Have you forgotten the reason we are here? Let's go inside quickly before she escapes,” he urged me, but I refused. I was resilient and focused on my instincts. “I might be old, but certainly not dumb or stupid. I knew what I heard. That was Kelly's voice,” I challenged Patrick.I didn't allow him to control my thoughts. I left the doorway and strolled around my mansion, trying to trace the voice I heard. “Papa, please come,”I heard the voice calling me for the second time. I traced the voice to the garage and saw Angela and Kelly seated inside the car. I tried to get closer to them, but she drove off. I didn't try to run after the car, knowing it would be pointless to do that. For the second consecut

Tony Wood's POV“Where's Angela?Where's Kelly?” I popped the question without a direct lead. I was hoping that someone would sacrifice themselves to speak up.“Oh, shit. She fucking escaped. How did this happen? Where are the fucking nurses?” The doctor screamed. He slammed the wall to demonstrate his rage. He was about to leave when I held him back. “Where the heck are you going?”“What the heck is this? Let go of me,” he requested.“I want to summon all the nurses to know who was on duty,” he explained.I was ruthless!I refused to let him go, knowing that he was the reason for Angela's escape. If he hadn't hesitated when I called for her arrest, Angela would be sleeping behind bars already.“Oh, come on, Tony. You know I have nothing to do with this. I was only trying to protect the image of my hospital,” he claimed. That was the lamest excuse I've ever heard. The excuse made me even more angry. I wasn't conscious of my act anymore. Tony Woods' POVI am at the point where I genuinely don't know what to do. It feels like I'm struggling. It feels like I'm standing at a crossroads, stuck and uncertain about my actions. The people you think you know. You come to realize that maybe you don't know them after all.And that shakes you.I usually have answers, but now, I'm the dumbest man alive.I'm used to having directions. But this time, I feel lost in the dark. And it's crazy each time I remember that I am all alone. I don't see anyone coming to salvage my pathetic situation. Each time I recall that I'm the architect of my misfortunes, my heart bleeds. The question that keeps echoing in my head when I wake up every morning is, “When will I finally get out of this?” To worsen it all, I am not guaranteed a perfect response, let alone a remedy. “What the hell is going on here, Mr. Woods? Why did you invite the police to my hospital?” The Doctor asked me in a faint tone. He was panting heavily after running to m

Tony Woods POV“Are you sure you are ready for this moment, Mr. Woods? I want you to take your time and reflect on it before coming up with a decision. What I'm about to disclose might sound partially devastating and heartbreaking to you. And I am sure you wouldn't want that for yourself. Remember your health status. I don't want to be the one to escalate your blood pressure,” The doctor retreated just when he was on the verge of disclosing my son's test results. It wasn't a question I found quite intriguing. But somehow, I was able to control my rage. “Really? Are we going to do this all day? Come on, Doctor. I am not interested in any of your jokes. Just hit the nail on the head. Doctor, if I weren't ready, I wouldn't be here. As we speak, I am involved in an ongoing police investigation,” I revealed. What Ignorance! If only he knew what I've been through in the last 48 hours. “Oh, shit. What did I just do?” I spoke in a low tone. I got carried away by my emotions. It t
