Kate Pov

As I headed home, I realized that I hadn't surprised my kids with a gift in a long time. They understood my financial struggles and had never asked for anything unnecessary. But today, I wanted to do something special for them.

As for Abel, I refused to waste my energy thinking about him. As long as he wasn’t the CEO, he had no real power over me. I wasn’t afraid of him—I despised him. What kind of man meets a woman for the first time and immediately starts acting like a lust-driven fool? It only proved how irresponsible he was.

I stopped by the mall, intending to pick up something for my kids. The moment I walked in, I saw a slap land on an old man’s cheek.

“What?!” I gasped.

A crowd had already gathered around, watching the scene unfold. I pushed my way through until I reached the old man who had just been hit.

The burly man in a suit who had slapped him stood with an air of arrogance, surrounded by other men also dressed in suits.

I stepped forward and confronted him without hesitation. “How dare you slap an old man? Do you have no respect for elders at all?”

The onlookers exchanged nervous glances. They weren’t scared for themselves; they were scared for me.

The man in the suit turned to me, his gaze filled with condescension. “Who are you?” he sneered. “Do you even know who I am?”

“I don’t care who you are,” I shot back. “What you did was wrong. You need to apologize and compensate this man.”

The man let out a mocking chuckle. “Or what?”

I lifted my chin defiantly. “Or I’ll slap you in return.”

A murmur of shock rippled through the crowd. Some people started taking pictures, others recording videos.

The man’s face darkened with rage. “I dare you,” he growled. “I assure you, you won’t leave here in one piece.”

Without thinking twice, I raised my hand and delivered a resounding slap to his face.

Gasps filled the air. A hush fell over the crowd. Would he dare hit me back? Who was this man? I squared my shoulders, preparing myself for whatever was about to happen.

The man clenched his fist, raising a baton as if to strike me, but a deep, authoritative voice rang out from behind him.

“Stop.”

Instantly, the man froze. He lowered his head, swallowing whatever excuse he had been about to make.

I turned toward the source of the voice, and my breath caught. It was him.

The “special man” from the hospital yesterday.

What was he doing here?

He whispered something to his personal assistant, and within seconds, the entire crowd was dismissed just like that. Only I, the old man, and this powerful figure remained, along with his entourage.

Then, his sharp gaze settled on me. “Are you trying to get my attention by all means, woman?”

I frowned. “No. I didn’t even know you were here. I saw this man slap an elderly person, and it disgusted me that everyone just stood by and watched. I stepped in to defend him.”

He turned his cold gaze to the old man. “He stole from me.”

I blinked, then turned to the old man. “Did you really steal?”

The old man hesitated, shame written all over his face. “Yes,” he admitted.

The man’s piercing eyes returned to me. “You’re just another woman trying to throw herself at me. I know your kind. This is the second time in two days you’ve managed to ‘coincidentally’ appear before me.”

My jaw tightened. How dare he assume that?

He gestured to his PA, who immediately handed him a crisp hundred-dollar bill. The man then extended it toward me.

“Take this. And don’t ever appear before me again.” His voice was low and dangerous. “Because if I see you next time, I will destroy you.”

My hands clenched at my sides. Was he giving me money because he thought I was a slut? Did he really believe I was like those women who fawned over powerful men?

I lifted my chin. “No, thank you, sir. You can keep your money. I was simply doing what was right. I’ll take my leave now.”

I turned on my heels and walked away.

His PA made a move to stop me, but the man motioned for him to let me go.

As I stepped away, I heard his PA whisper, “Should I run a background check on her?”

“No need,” the man replied dismissively. “She’s not even worth being my enemy. Forget her.”

The last thing I heard before I left was his command: “Let the old man go. And fire the one who raised his hand against that woman.”

Once I was out of sight, I pressed a hand to my chest and exhaled sharply.

That was a narrow escape.

Why in the world did I have to meet him twice in two days? I didn’t want problems, but it seemed like I was attracting them.

But no more. From now on, I would mind my business.

Shaking off the tension, I proceeded into the mall and bought caps for my children. They were expensive, but if it would make them happy, then I didn’t care.

{That Evening}

When I arrived home, my six little ones ran up to me, welcoming me with their usual excitement.

“Can anyone guess what I got for you all?” I asked, settling into the living room.

They all started shouting different guesses while I kept shaking my head. Eventually, they got frustrated.

“Mom, just tell us!” Nathan groaned.

I smirked. “So no one can guess?”

Sophia, who had been quiet, suddenly spoke. “A cap.”

I beamed. “Smart girl! It’s a cap.”

“Oh my gosh, Mom got us caps!” Jason cheered.

“I’ll even wear mine in my sleep!”

“Mum, let me see!” Emma pleaded.

“I bet they’re beautiful,” Chloe added.

I pulled the caps out of the bag, but before they could snatch them, I quickly separated them. “These are for the boys, and these are for the girls.”

Soon, they all had their caps on, laughing and thanking me over and over. Even Sophia, my quiet one, murmured a “thank you.”

I cracked a few jokes with them before heading to my room to rest.

{The Next Day}

I dressed up and left for work as usual.

On my way to my desk, I ran into Abel. Even after what had happened between us yesterday, I still greeted him politely.

He ignored my greeting and instead said, “The CEO is in his office. Report there immediately.”

“Got it,” I replied, dropping my bag on my desk before heading toward the CEO’s office.

I knocked gently. No response. Just as I raised my hand to knock again, the door opened by itself.

Must be one of those modern doors, I thought.

I stepped inside. The man sitting at the desk had his head buried in his Apple laptop.

He looked busy. I hesitated, unsure whether to speak or not.

“Good morning, sir. I’m....”

“Have a seat,” he interrupted, without even looking up.

Seconds later, he finally pushed his laptop aside and lifted his gaze.

Our eyes met.

And I felt my breath hitch.

Kate povEunice walked towards the boys’ room and knocked on it gently. The knob twisted, and the door gave way. It was Nathan who opened the door, and he had to look up to see the tall woman standing before them.Eunice smiled and said, “Hey!”Instead of replying, Nathan turned to his brothers and signaled for them to come over. Jason and Liam strolled over to him and also saw Eunice.“Hey… can I come in?”Jason shrugged, and the boys looked at themselves as if meditating on whether to let her come in or not. Liam opened the door wide for her, and then she walked in.She looked around the room and found it so adorable, then went to sit on the couch in the room. “I’m so sorry I had to disturb you.”The boys went to sit on their beds and were facing her but didn’t say a word.“Don’t you like me? Why are you guys giving me that look?” she asked.“Can I ask our dad who you are?” Nathan asked.“Oh! That… erm… in the past, your dad and I were friends—very close friends. Then he promised th

One of the men appeared all of a sudden and saw one of them on the floor. “What! Bitch!” he shouted, and others began to run towards him. I threw my shoe toward the man, and while he was guarding himself from getting hit, I ran speedily toward the room. The three men in the room ignored me and ran quickly away. I was confused and wondered if I was a ghost. Before I could take another step, I saw Roberto appear.“Find and bring me those men,” he commanded, and his guards ran after them immediately.I was still trying to catch my breath, having just run while trying to escape death. I looked at Roberto blankly and wondered how he found me. He walked toward me and wanted to grab my wrist, but I pulled my hand away. I didn’t want him to touch me. Was he not the one who sent me away and let me get kidnapped? He always punished and made up for mistakes. But what if I had been raped and killed before he found me? I was angry.Roberto then said, “Let’s go home.”“I will find my way home,” I s

My heart thumped so heavily I almost choked to death. “Oh my! You’re a kidnapper!” I realized I had to do something—fast. I attempted to jump on the man’s hand, hoping he would lose control of the steering, but he immediately took his hand off the gear and picked up a small bottle, spraying its content right in my face.Everything went black.I lost consciousness immediately. The driver glanced at my face and grinned as if he had found a prize. Once he parked before an uncompleted house, he jumped out and shouted with glee, “Fucking hurray! We’ll get to fuck a pretty angel!” His disgusting voice echoed in my fading senses.Other men began to walk out, drawn by his voice, eager to see the new catch. Then, a call came through on the man’s phone. I heard him answer it while asking one of his men to help light the cigarette he had just pulled from his pocket.“Have you got her?” Eunice's voice filtered through.“Yes, she’s here. Send my money already,” the driver said, puffing smoke from

Once the work period was over, Roberto walked out and was soon escorted out of the building as usual. He had told me to join him in the garage in two minutes—he didn’t want us walking out together so people in the company wouldn’t assume there was a relationship between us. He couldn’t afford to make whatever was between us public. While I was wrapping up my work and getting ready to leave the office, the door suddenly opened and Eunice walked in.“You bitch!” she spat furiously.I paused what I was doing and looked at her. Then I smirked and calmly continued packing my things. I picked up my small handbag and headed for the exit, but Theresa stretched her arms out to the sides, blocking my path.“Please move out of the way,” I said, trying to stay polite even though I was irritated.“Do you really think Roberto loves you? Hahaha...” she scoffed. “If he loved you, he wouldn’t have made you his mistress. He’s only keeping you around because you’re the mother of his children.”“Thanks f

Kate povWhen I remembered that Roberto once told me that loving any woman was impossible, I thought I might be thinking too far."Can I know how much I will earn as salary?" I asked.Without glancing at me, Roberto answered, "Multiply whatever amount you were to earn monthly as a secretary by two. That will be your salary for the position."My heart almost exploded with happiness. Double my salary? That was huge, and even the work I had to do was very little. This wasn’t even something to be sad about. But rather than using my leisure time to play games, I decided I was going to use it to come up with many amazing designs that might fetch me a huge amount of money in the future."Happy?" Roberto suddenly asked, and I responded instinctively, "Sir?"He paused what he was doing and asked in a clearer tone, "Are you happy that you have an increase in promotion now since your salary has practically doubled?""Kind of," I answered.A knock landed on the door at that moment, and Roberto ge

Kate povIt was late at night when Patricia walked out of her room. She was bored, and truthfully, she had thought she would be living in the same room with Roberto. After all, we were husband and wife. She never foresaw that we would be living separately. She could only reveal her identity after she had a baby for him. That way, no matter how angry he got, he wouldn’t be able to easily chase her away because she’d have a child for him.She impatiently walked towards the master bedroom. She knocked on the door gently but got no response. She knocked again and again, wondering if Roberto was inside or not.“Hello,” a majestic voice sounded behind her, and she turned at once. Seeing Roberto standing tall before her, her heart skipped, and she swallowed hard.“Hi,” she smiled. “I felt lonely in my room and decided to come and check on you.”“I don’t like people intruding into my privacy. I’m a very busy man, I hope you can understand that?” Roberto asked.“Yes, sure. But I also hope you’
