Riley

I quickly pulled my hand away from his chest when I recollected my thoughts, breathing faster than I had ever done in my entire life, I stepped back.

He glanced at his empty hand and looked at me, he seem surprise at how quickly I pulled away from him.

“Are you okay?” He asked me like he didn’t just feel what I felt.

Perhaps he didn’t…

I quickly nodded in response.

“Fine,” he raised his hand surrendering to me. “If you are going to take a taxi then you should at least have the address of my place to come later.” He said.

I blinked, I had forgotten that.

Jeez, my eagerness to escape someone I was going to live with for the next three months. I was stupid.

“Sure.” I nodded, flashing him a nervous smile, and he wrote down the address of his place on a notepad and handed it to me.

“That’s my number beside it, don’t go missing.” He said with a cocky grin,

I glanced down, it felt hot, I was outside but my whole body felt like it was expose to intense heat.

“Yeah, I won’t go missing.” I said. “I will go now.” I turned to leave.

I hailed a taxi over and got in, as the driver drove off, I glanced back to see Carl getting into his car, driving in the opposite direction.

I squeezed my eyes shut, exhaling sharply. ‘Oh, Riley, you have to get use to that.’ I opened my eyes, a smile spread across my face as the feel of Carl’s hand clouded my memories again.

It was the first time he had ever touched me like that, gripped me by the wrist, and pulled me to himself, it felt so hot! No, he was sexily hot!

I barely paid attention during classes, my mind was occupied by the thought of staying at Carl’s place, he usually smile at me, he also speaks softly to me, perhaps he has feelings for me?

“Are you going for lunch, Riley?”

I was pulled back to reality, I glanced up to see Edwin and Eve standing next to my desk. I blinked and looked forward, realizing the teacher was already gone.

“When did the class end?” I asked and Edwin scoffed.

“Five minutes ago, why are you acting so weird all morning?” Eve asked.

I grabbed my books to leave, but just then I heard noisy chattering by the door and we all turned in the direction to see Neil Edward heading in my direction with lots of students clustering behind him.

“What is he doing?” I blinked when is noticed the flower he held.

He had a huge smile on his face as he made his way towards my desk, he fell on his knees in front of me.

I blinked. What the hell is he doing? I heard other students gasp.

“Riley, you have been my crush since ninth grade, and from the moment I set my eyes on you, I knew you were someone special to me, your beauty, kindness and intelligence has all captivated me, but your heart is what made me fall in love with you most…” His eyes were burning with emotions as he continued. “I have fallen deeply in love with you, Riley, will you be my girlfriend?”

“OMG, Riley, it’s happening…” Eve covered her lips grinning from ear to ear.

I frowned at her silly reaction before turning to Neil.

Neil Edward was the hottest boy in school and every girl has a crush on him, most of them had written love letters to him, but he rejected them all.

I was surprise when I heard the rumors of his rejections, because I know most boys would take advantage of girls swarming on them, but he didn’t which was one reason I liked his personality, but I have no feelings for him and it’s a surprise to hear him confessing his love to me.

All eyes were on me, curiously waiting for my response, I needed to be honest, we have talked on few occasion but those emotions were not there.

“I am sorry Neil, but I don’t feel the same way towards you.” I replied honestly, and everyone gasped.

“Riley…” Eve’s eyes grew wide.

I heard the murmurs, but got to my feet, grabbing my bag. “Let’s go have lunch, I am hungry.” I told my friends and pushed through the crowd without casting another glance at Neil who was still kneeling down.

If he had done this privately, it would have had less impact in the embarrassment, but he chose to go public without trying to find out about my feelings first.

I didn’t hear the end of it, rejecting Neil became the hottest topic. It was exhausting getting asked why I rejected his feelings. I also heard students curse at me for saying no when the window was opened for me.

I just couldn’t wait for the final bell to ring and be out of this school, by tomorrow I was sure the anger will die down and everything will go back to normal around here.

“Do you have feelings for someone else?” Eve asked when we made our way through the school gate. “I just don’t get why you would reject the hot Neil!”

I turned to her with a frown. This was the tenth time she has asked the same question.

“Everyone has the right to choose who they love, whereas, Neil should also accept it, he has rejected tons of girls already, so just stop asking me about this, okay?” I said.

“Riley…”

“I have other things to worry about, Eve, see you tomorrow.” I waved at her goodbye, entering the taxi.

My thoughts were already occupied with other things than worry about Neil’s feeling, he was going to find another person to love since there are lots of girls already lined up to date him.

The driver pulled over in front of the address I gave to him and I stepped out, looking over at the building in front of me, a smile spread through my lips when it matched the one on the address Carl had written.

I made my way to the front door, feeling uneasy, but knew this was the place I would be staying from now on, so it’s better I sucked it in.

I reached to ring the doorbell but discovered the front door was partly open,

I blinked. Why did he leave the front door open?

I glanced towards the parking lot to be sure his car was there and it was.

Since he was home, I shrugged and pushed the door open, making my way in. The inside was so beautiful, but I didn’t get a chance to take in all the beauty when I caught the sight of Carl’s arm tightly wrapped around a blonde lady’s waist, kissing her fiercely.

My jaw dropped and my eyes burned in anger, he was shirtless, pinned her to the wall, her painted fingers ruffling his hair and she moaned loudly when he kissed her sensitive neck, finding her lips again.

My bag fell from my hand exposing me, and Carl quickly pulled away from her when he noticed me.

Tears clustered my eyes as they darted from the woman who wore nothing but a bra and tight pants, to Carl.

“Riley…” He called out, but didn’t take his arms away from her, and she turned to me, her lipstick already smudge from the kiss, I watched the smile spread through her lips, but my tears dropped before I could stop it.

My crush already has someone else.

I must admit, I looked really miserable now.

RileyI closed the door behind me and leaned against it for a second. The plastic crown was still in my hand. I didn’t know what to do with it, my heart was already racing from what he had just said, but I tried to calm my beating heart.Carl’s eyes moved over my face, then the dress, then the crown. He didn’t ask how the night had gone, he just waited.I walked farther into the room and sat on the couch. My feet hurt from the heels I had worn half the night, I kicked it off. “Prom’s over.” I said.“I figured.” I looked at the glass on the table. Carl rarely stayed up this late with a drink, something about the way he watched me made my heart race again. It felt awkward just staring, so I decided to say something. “Neil took me home,” I said. “We… talked.”Carl nodded, he just kept looking at me the way he always did when he was trying to decide how much space I needed.I licked my dried lips and set the crown on the coffee table. It looked ridiculous there. Carl looked away from

RileyMusic thumped through the speakers, and people laughed and dance all around me. Neil held my hand as we walked in. He smiled at everyone we passed. I tried to smile back, but it felt unreal on my face.I wasn’t really there. My mind kept drifting somewhere else. Ava found me near the punch table. She linked her arm through mine and leaned close. “You okay?” she asked. “You’ve been quiet all night.”I forced a smile. “I’m fine, just tired.” I lied.Eve searched my face for a second, then nodded. “Okay, if you need to talk later, I’m here. Between, you and Neil look so good together, everyone is talking about the both of you being the perfect couples.”I glanced in Neil’s direction, he was talking to few boys from basketball team, his gaze flickered toward me and he smiled, I could see those boyish grin on his face, he was handsome, and I felt they were talking about us, complimenting.“Thank you,” I told Eve and watched her disappear back into the crowd, her date was Edwin, our

CarlI stood in the living room, staring at the clock on the wall as I sipped my coffee slowly. It was prom night. Three days had passed since Riley’s birthday party and I had tried my best not to think about Riley.I had kept my mind on Nora, called her more, talked about the wedding plans, even forced myself to think about the future together with Nora.None of it worked, Riley still filled my thoughts. The way she used to look at me was gone after I had pushed her away and rejected her. She had stopped trying to get my attention, she stopped dressing seductively, and she stopped looking at me like I was the center of her world.I should be relieved, I should be happy my rejection had made her lose interest completely, instead I felt emptiness inside my heart and I wish I could ignore it, but I couldn’t.I heard the door bell ring and set my coffee down. Nora had told me she was going to dinner with her sister and was catching an early flight tomorrow for work, so I knew she wouldn’

RileyAfter school I walked home the long way. I thought about texting Carl to know if he would be home early, he had walked out that night, and I haven’t seen him till today.I shook my head, my fingers hovered over his number. I thought about deleting his number. I did neither and tucked the phone in my pocket, exhaling sharply.I got home and pushed the front door, the smell of cooking hit me right away. my stomach have felt hungry after school since I skipped lunch, but it just twisted instead.I was surprised to see Carl in the living room. He was home early today, and he sat on the couch with his elbows on his knees, phone in his hands. When he looked up, our eyes met. I let out a short breath through my nose. He had rejected me last night, I thought he would be away for three days, but he was here.I swallowed hard and wanted to take another step forward when I heard the sound from the kitchen, I froze.I turned to see Nora stirring a pot, she stood at the stove, and wore one o

I walked into school with my head down. My heart still ached from Carl’s rejection. I had expected him to say yes, to kiss me and say he also love me, to say he was going to fight for us, but he had still looked at me like I was a kid who didn’t understand anything and said no.I told myself I wouldn’t cry at school after crying for two days at home. I almost made it.The hallway was loud already, lockers slammed, and I stopped at mine and spun the combination. When the door opened, something soft fell out and landed on my shoe.I lowered my gaze to see a single red flower, the stem was wrapped in a little strip of paper.I picked it up, the note was folded twice. I opened it and read it.“Riley, I’m sorry about the party. I was drunk and stupid. I shouldn’t have tried to kiss you. Please forgive me. – Neil.I closed my eyes, it was the first time recalling Neil after the party, but now my mind turned back to when Carl had rushed forward and pushed Neil away saying I didn’t want him.

Carl“I love you, Carl. I’m in love with you.”I stood frozen as she said those words, unable to get words out of my mouth, unable to protest about her love, well, she left me no room to speak. She rose to her tiptoe and kissed me. I should push her away, I should say no, I should yell at her, but I couldn’t move, the touch of her lips on my felt like feathers to my skin.I had kissed Nora, I’ve kissed other girls before Nora, but no one sent shivers down my spine like Riley’s, none had made my whole body go rigid, none of those kisses made my heart hammer like it was doing right now.She parted her lips with mine, her eyes locked in my wide eyes, her forehead rested against mine, then she slowly closed her eyes.“Kiss me,” she whispered.I clenched my hand into first, trying to ground myself, but I wanted to test what made her lips so special, what made those butterfly go off in my stomach, wanted to have another test of this forbidden desire. My lips brushed hers like I was asking m
