I quickly pulled my hand away from his chest when I recollected my thoughts, breathing faster than I had ever done in my entire life, I stepped back.
He glanced at his empty hand and looked at me, he seem surprise at how quickly I pulled away from him.
“Are you okay?” He asked me like he didn’t just feel what I felt.
Perhaps he didn’t…
I quickly nodded in response.
“Fine,” he raised his hand surrendering to me. “If you are going to take a taxi then you should at least have the address of my place to come later.” He said.
I blinked, I had forgotten that.
Jeez, my eagerness to escape someone I was going to live with for the next three months. I was stupid.
“Sure.” I nodded, flashing him a nervous smile, and he wrote down the address of his place on a notepad and handed it to me.
“That’s my number beside it, don’t go missing.” He said with a cocky grin,
I glanced down, it felt hot, I was outside but my whole body felt like it was expose to intense heat.
“Yeah, I won’t go missing.” I said. “I will go now.” I turned to leave.
I hailed a taxi over and got in, as the driver drove off, I glanced back to see Carl getting into his car, driving in the opposite direction.
I squeezed my eyes shut, exhaling sharply. ‘Oh, Riley, you have to get use to that.’ I opened my eyes, a smile spread across my face as the feel of Carl’s hand clouded my memories again.
It was the first time he had ever touched me like that, gripped me by the wrist, and pulled me to himself, it felt so hot! No, he was sexily hot!
I barely paid attention during classes, my mind was occupied by the thought of staying at Carl’s place, he usually smile at me, he also speaks softly to me, perhaps he has feelings for me?
“Are you going for lunch, Riley?”
I was pulled back to reality, I glanced up to see Edwin and Eve standing next to my desk. I blinked and looked forward, realizing the teacher was already gone.
“When did the class end?” I asked and Edwin scoffed.
“Five minutes ago, why are you acting so weird all morning?” Eve asked.
I grabbed my books to leave, but just then I heard noisy chattering by the door and we all turned in the direction to see Neil Edward heading in my direction with lots of students clustering behind him.
“What is he doing?” I blinked when is noticed the flower he held.
He had a huge smile on his face as he made his way towards my desk, he fell on his knees in front of me.
I blinked. What the hell is he doing? I heard other students gasp.
“Riley, you have been my crush since ninth grade, and from the moment I set my eyes on you, I knew you were someone special to me, your beauty, kindness and intelligence has all captivated me, but your heart is what made me fall in love with you most…” His eyes were burning with emotions as he continued. “I have fallen deeply in love with you, Riley, will you be my girlfriend?”
“OMG, Riley, it’s happening…” Eve covered her lips grinning from ear to ear.
I frowned at her silly reaction before turning to Neil.
Neil Edward was the hottest boy in school and every girl has a crush on him, most of them had written love letters to him, but he rejected them all.
I was surprise when I heard the rumors of his rejections, because I know most boys would take advantage of girls swarming on them, but he didn’t which was one reason I liked his personality, but I have no feelings for him and it’s a surprise to hear him confessing his love to me.
All eyes were on me, curiously waiting for my response, I needed to be honest, we have talked on few occasion but those emotions were not there.
“I am sorry Neil, but I don’t feel the same way towards you.” I replied honestly, and everyone gasped.
“Riley…” Eve’s eyes grew wide.
I heard the murmurs, but got to my feet, grabbing my bag. “Let’s go have lunch, I am hungry.” I told my friends and pushed through the crowd without casting another glance at Neil who was still kneeling down.
If he had done this privately, it would have had less impact in the embarrassment, but he chose to go public without trying to find out about my feelings first.
I didn’t hear the end of it, rejecting Neil became the hottest topic. It was exhausting getting asked why I rejected his feelings. I also heard students curse at me for saying no when the window was opened for me.
I just couldn’t wait for the final bell to ring and be out of this school, by tomorrow I was sure the anger will die down and everything will go back to normal around here.
“Do you have feelings for someone else?” Eve asked when we made our way through the school gate. “I just don’t get why you would reject the hot Neil!”
I turned to her with a frown. This was the tenth time she has asked the same question.
“Everyone has the right to choose who they love, whereas, Neil should also accept it, he has rejected tons of girls already, so just stop asking me about this, okay?” I said.
“Riley…”
“I have other things to worry about, Eve, see you tomorrow.” I waved at her goodbye, entering the taxi.
My thoughts were already occupied with other things than worry about Neil’s feeling, he was going to find another person to love since there are lots of girls already lined up to date him.
The driver pulled over in front of the address I gave to him and I stepped out, looking over at the building in front of me, a smile spread through my lips when it matched the one on the address Carl had written.
I made my way to the front door, feeling uneasy, but knew this was the place I would be staying from now on, so it’s better I sucked it in.
I reached to ring the doorbell but discovered the front door was partly open,
I blinked. Why did he leave the front door open?
I glanced towards the parking lot to be sure his car was there and it was.
Since he was home, I shrugged and pushed the door open, making my way in. The inside was so beautiful, but I didn’t get a chance to take in all the beauty when I caught the sight of Carl’s arm tightly wrapped around a blonde lady’s waist, kissing her fiercely.
My jaw dropped and my eyes burned in anger, he was shirtless, pinned her to the wall, her painted fingers ruffling his hair and she moaned loudly when he kissed her sensitive neck, finding her lips again.
My bag fell from my hand exposing me, and Carl quickly pulled away from her when he noticed me.
Tears clustered my eyes as they darted from the woman who wore nothing but a bra and tight pants, to Carl.
“Riley…” He called out, but didn’t take his arms away from her, and she turned to me, her lipstick already smudge from the kiss, I watched the smile spread through her lips, but my tears dropped before I could stop it.
My crush already has someone else.
I must admit, I looked really miserable now.
RileyWhen we arrived, dinner was already prepared, the smell of roasted chicken filled the kitchen, it was clear that he had already returned home, made dinner like he usually did, before coming to school to pick me up.I dropped my bag on the chair. “You didn’t have to cook.”Carl opened the oven without looking at me. “You need to eat.”I scoffed. “You say that like I’m a stray cat.”He placed the tray on the counter. “For someone who ‘doesn’t care,’ you complain a lot.”I bit down my lower lips so hard that it hurt. “Oh, I’m sorry, are we speaking again now?”I remembered the last three days he wouldn’t even let me see him, always disappearing before I wake up and returning late at night. He wiped his hands on a towel. “Riley…”“No, go ahead.” I snapped. “Keep doing what you’ve been doing, pretend I don’t exist, it’s working great.”Finally he looked at me and for a brief moment, something tense crossed his expression, but they disappeared again.“I’m trying to avoid another argum
RileyThe second morning, I rushed downstairs as soon as I woke up, but there was nothing, no Carl, just warm food and no note.He was home last night, perhaps he returned late not to run into me and also left early before I woke up.I stared at the plate, irritation curled in my chest. “Wow,” I muttered under my breath. “How generous of him,”Going out to check if his car was in the parking lot would be a waste of time, so I ate the food anyway.I must admit, Carl was good at cooking, the meal I ate last night was delicious, like he had cared too much about the details. And I couldn’t throw this away because part of me hated that he could be thoughtful without actually speaking to me.Two days, it was two entire days since our argument in the living room, and now he had preferred avoidance because I had accused him of treating me like a child.I have been eating alone, and it was infuriating, too humiliating just because I chose to show him my feelings.I shut the door behind me with
RileyI thought it was all a bad dream, getting scold by Carl, it had been the first, but when I woke up the next day, it all came back to me.Coming home with Neil, wearing Carl’s shirt even when Neil had asked me to take it off, it was all just to get Carl’s attention, to get a reaction from him, to pass the message that I was in love with him.But it ended badly last night, Carl had raised his voice at me, he had clearly told me that none of my tactics were going to work on him, and I was only fooling myself with the thought that he would be moved by it.I wiped the tears that rolled down my cheek and rolled out of bed.Dressing up for school, I left my room and headed downstairs, the smell of coffee drifting through the hallway, but there was no sound, no clatter of dishes being washed downstairs, and no Carl.I glanced around, and walked into the kitchen only to find a plate on the counter.A toast, scrambled eggs, a slice of orange arranged neatly, and beside it was a mug of war
CarlI paced the living room, running my fingers through my hair unable to ignore the scene I had just witnessed. My heart thumped in my chest, and I couldn’t sit, I could not think straight. If I had been a minute late, if I hadn’t come home as fast as I could, perhaps she would have been up there fucking him, I just don’t get how she could do something like that under my roof, and all the signals she gave me where all joke to her.How can she be with someone else, how can she laugh so loud and let him touch her like that, how can she kiss him, and stay half naked with him. What the hell am I even doing?I cursed myself under my breath, I should be angry that she was doing that, not angry because she had wanted me but lied about it.What was she thinking? What the fuck was she doing? My attention snapped to the stair when I heard he coming down, she stopped at the foot of the stairs, her gaze lowered, her face pale, she looked ashamed for the first time.I looked at her pale face and
CarlI got up early to prepare breakfast, I couldn’t sleep well with everything that happened the previous day, or perhaps I was just excited to see Riley today.I freshened up and went downstairs to prepare breakfast, making eggs and toast while listening for when Riley will come down.Probably anticipating what she would wear today.Fuck, Carl!I shook the thought off my mind, I needed to remind myself every second that Riley was still seventeen and my best friend’s daughter who was left under my care.I set the table, and before I could turn to call her, I heard her come down.I blinked at the sight of Riley. She was dressed in a pale sweater and dark jeans, exposing nothing, which was the first. Her damp curls tucked behind her ears, and she quietly sat on the dining chair.“Morning,” She said softly, there was no funny smirk, no sarcasm, or even flirtation, just the usual but unusual Riley.“You’re joining me for breakfast today?” I pulled the chair across hers and sat down, well,
CarlI exhaled sharply and cursed under my breath before I turned to Riley. “Riley, this isn’t something you should say suddenly, language please.” I told her.Riley chuckled silently. “Oh, you are an adult and I would be an adult in a week.” She responded. “Whereas, you had seen and heard me last night, it’s no secret what I feel, and you don’t hide yours either.”I closed my eyes momentarily. “Riley, I know it was wrong for you to see me and Nora that day, we should have done that in privacy, but we---““You know that’s not what I am talking about.” She interrupted me and I stepped on the brake, the tires screeched and came to a halt.“Riley.” I turned to her with furrowed brows. “I don’t know what you think you are doing, but whatever it is, you should stop now.”She held my gaze briefly and looked away from me. “We are home.” She changed the subject, unfastening her seat belt. “It’s still pouring.”“Riley…”She pushed the door open and was about to step out, but I quickly held her
CarlI told myself I wasn’t watching her, but I was watching every goddamn move she made since she stepped into my apartment, and she wasn’t making it easy for me either.I had seen the tears in her eyes when she saw me kissing Nora, I thought perhaps she was shocked for witnessing such scene, but i
RileyI returned home late, but when I walked in, Carl wasn’t home, he had told me the code of his apartment, but he was not home.I let out a sharp sigh, but just before I headed upstairs, he walked in, holding some grocery bag, I glanced over his shoulder and was relieved when there was no Nora to
RileyThe knock on my door made me groan, I tried to ignore it, turning to my side and pushing the pillow over my ear to block the sound, but it came again and this time, the door was pushed open.“Riley, you need to wake up. It’s time to get ready for school.”I was expecting my dad’s voice, or my
Riley“Please, stay with me, don’t go.” I begged him and he turned to me, his gaze held mine and for a moment I believed he would stay, but Carl slowly held my hand and pulled it away from his.“Go to bed Riley, I will be right back.” He didn’t spare me another glance before leaving the house.I sto
